During the 1983-84 school year, MCHS students were seen striving for academic success. Some students prepared for their future through vocational classes and extracurricular activities. For example, the computer science classes have grown from three 1st year classes to four 1st classes and one 2nd year class, which are being taught by Mr. Crenshaw. The school provided four new computers that are to be shared between the clerical classes and the Computer II class. Other vocational classes are Drafting, SOE, Cosmetology, Food Service, and Distributive Education which teach the students new skills for their careers. In the extracurricular activities, the band members were very hard at work as they prepared for various competitions. Over the summer, . , . v'.’f’rrr';' they went to band camp at the University of Tennessee at Martin. The band was rewarded for their efforts. Other activities in which students were hard at work during the year were football, basketball, softball, and theatrical and musical productions. The scramble to classes and to lunch and the restless days in study hall were customs that remained unchanged from the beginning to the end of the school. opening 11

The Toga and Homecoming Dances turned out to be great successes. At the Toga dance, which was sponsored by the Computer Club, everyone was to dress up in a toga; an award was given to Terry Carter for the Best Toga. The club also held a dance contest. The winners were P. J. Miller and Terri Wells, who received trophies for their efforts. The money that was made from the dance was used to buy a Sony big screen monitor for the Computer classes. The Homecoming dance, held by the Pep Club had a new twist in it. It was held in the school courtyard and seemed to be a change for the better. The theme was the “Roaring 20's” where the couples were supposed to be dressed in 20’s style. All in all, both dances made it a year to be remembered. 12 opening
