At the beginning of the 1957 football season, new head coach Syd McLouth and his assistant Bill Seltz were greeted by 14 returning lettermen and the future looked mighty bright. The Cardinals dropped their first three ames to strong class B teams Vassar and St. Charles and defending conference champions Imlay City, before cfeadlocking Howell and Oxford. Millington dropped a hard fought game to Ortonville 12-6 and were trounced by undefeated Frankenmuth 25- 0 before they knocked North Branch from the South Central conference championship on the last day of the season 7-0. The Cardinals had some compensation when six players were chosen on the all conference team. Seniors, Captain Dick Zink, Dick Gross, George Kish, Mike Martin and Royce Shamel. Junior Carl Schnettler was also chosen. The most valuable player award was won by Joe laBean, and the most improved players on this years football team were Jim Henderson and Dale Simmons.
