msfoinr DURING THE SUMMER OF 1944, TWENTY HAPPY STUDENTS RUSHED INTO THEIR NINTH C3RADE CLASS ROOM, EAGER TO LEARN ABOUT HIGH SCHOOL. MOST OF US BEGAN TO THINK OF OUR FUTURE AND PLAN WHAT WE WERE GOING TO DO ONCE OUR FOUR YEARS WERE COMPLETED. DUR- ING THIS YEAR WE LOST TWO STUDENTS. WE TOOK PART IN ALL THE HIGH SCHOOL WORK AND ACTIVITIES. IN OUR SOPHOMORE YEAR WE LOST THREE MORE STUDENTS. WE ORGANIZED THE BETA CLUB THAT YEAR AND DID MUCH WORK TO GET SET UP. WE ALSO DID MUCH GLEE CLUB WORK. IN THE GLEE CLUB WORK WE WENT TO DIFFERENT CHURCHES AND OTHER PLACES TO SING. WE AL- SO DID A FEW RADIO BROADCASTS. AT LAST WE ENTERED OUR JUNIOR YEAR AND ELECTED OUR CLASS OFFICERS. THEY WERE: PRESIDENT—MINNIE ALMOND; VICE PRESIDENT— LOIS LOMAX; SEGHETARY- TREASURER— MARTHA LIPPARD. ONE OF OUR MOST EXCITING EVENTS OF THAT YEAR WAS GIVING THE SENIORS A BANiiUET. FIRST, WE ORDERED OUR FAVORS IN BLUE AND GOLD COLORS; THEN, WE PLANNED OUR DECORATIONS, WHICH CONSISTED OF BLUE AND GOLD CANDLES AND SOME FLOWERS. WE ALSO HAD SOME RED ROSES ESPECIALLY FOR THE SENIORS BECAUSE IT WAS THEIR CLASS FLOWER. AT LAST THE NIGHT CAIvCE AND WE HAD A WONDERFUL MEAL WITH A DANCE FOLLOWING. ONE OF THE NEXT EXCITING EVENTS WAS THE ORDERING AND RECEIVING OF OUR CLASS RINGS. WE RECEIVED OUR RINGS ON DEC- EMBER 5 WHICH WILL ALWAYS REMAIN ONE OF OUR MOST OUTSTANDING SCHOOL DAYS. DURING THE YEAR WE LOST EIGHT STUDENTS. THE JUNIORS, WITH THE SENIORS, PR SENTED A PLAY ENTITLED, UNCLE CY HITS A NEW HI. WE CONTINUED OUR WORK IN THE BETA CLUB MlTWS LEg CLUB. WE BEGAN OUR SENIOR YEAR WITH FIVE STUDENTS, BUT LATER FRANK STOUGH JOINED US. OUR CLASS OFFICERS WERE AS FOLLOWS: PRESIDENT— KENDALL MULLI8; SECRETARY- TREASURER — MARTHA LIPPARD; AND HISTORIAN— MINNIE AUIOND. MRS. C.J.ROGERS WAS OUR SENIOR SPONSOR AND SHE HELPED US A GREAT DEAL IN ORDERING OUR INVIT- ATION CARDS, AND OUR CAPS AND GOWNS. WE USED BLUE CAPS AND GOWNS. WE SELECTED A3 OUR CLASS COLORS BLUE AND WHITE AND THE ORCHID AS OUR FLOWER. TODAY WE FOLLOW; TOMORROW WE LEAD, WAS SELECTED AS OUR MOTTO. DURING THE YEAR WE TRIED TO DO THINGS WHICH WE THOUGHT WOULD HELP THE SCHOOL AND LEAVE THE CLASS OF ' 48 WELL RESCEMBERED. SOME OF THE THINGS WE DID WERE AS FOLLOWS: WORKING IN THE OFFICE, KEEPING THE LIBRARY, HELPING IN THE STORE, AND HELPING OTHERS IN ANY WAY POSSIBLE. WE SPENT MUCH TIME AND WORK ON THE ANNUAL, BUT WE ENJOYED IT ffHORDlTOHLI AND HOPE IT WILL BE CARRIED OUT EVERY YEAR IN THE FUTURE. WE HAD MUCH FUN WHILE GOING TO BALL GAMES AND CLASS PARTIES TO- GETHER, BUT THE GREATEST THRILL WAS THE JUNIOR-SENIOR BANSiUET AND IT WILL ALWAYS BE PLEASANTLY REMEMBERED BY EVERYONE. THEN CAME THE BACCALUUREATE SERMON AND GRADUATION. NOW OUR HlCffl SCHOOL DAYS ARE OVER, BUT NOT FORGOTTEN, AND THIS MZAMS WE ARE TO GO ON OUR DIFFERENT WAYS IN LIFE AND TRY TO FILL OUR DREAMS AND PLANS, WHATEVER THEY MIGHT BE. WE THE SENIORS OF 1948 WISH TO EXPRESS OUR DEEPEST GRATITUDE TO OUR PARENTS, TEACHERS, AND PRINCIPALS FOR OUR HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION.
