The 19117 iV1i11icie1c ec1itoria1 and husiness staffs are happy to dedicate this annual to Dorothy McClure, who has heen head of the VVomen's Athletic De- partment at Miliikin for e1even years. Dorf, as she is known to the students, graduated in 1929 from the University of Illinois Where she received her BS. degree in physical education. She a1so ohtainect her NLA. degree through graci- uate Work at Columbia. Miss McCIure's accomplishments in the physical education department have been many in that she has heen successful in the instigation ot a wen rounded and organized sports program for women students. Her interest in sports as a method ot ciean competition, respect for opponents' ahiiities, and in general team spirit have clone much to strengthen the VVomen's Athletic Association to which she is adviser. Dons heiief that every girl, even those not outstanding in ath- letics, should have equai opportunity to participate in 2111 sports, is responsihie for the point system used to record participation so that each girl has the same chance to win her numerals, ietter, etc. This cumuiative method of ohtaining points has caused a great c1ea1 of active interest in piaying and studying techniques and regulations of various heneficial sports for women. Proof ot this is the extensive growth of VV. A. A. to over 150 memhers in the past few years. With high group spirit Dorn has heen ahie to arrange competition with other schools and tourna- ments in which iV1i11i1cin girls have exhihitect the fine sportsmanship and clean play which has become a part of the women's physical education curricula at Millikin. In addition to the teaching ot physical education and related courses Dorn taught first aid to 1200 air cadets during the war and has served as adviser to the Red Cross College Unit. Student vote has repeatedly elected her to acivise the student council for several years in succession. The many summers of camp work and her association with young people at Miliikin have made Miss McClure a very capahie guide and friend to all ot the student hociy. Physical development and learning to work as a unit for a common purpose will help many of us in the future, thus we appreciate the work of Niiss iV1cC1ure. 411119
