1953 Below: Phi Sigma Pi, Mu Kappa Mu, and Industrial Arts Homecoming displays. Homecoming 1953 was, as always, a red letter day in our calendar of senior memories. For many it meant getting up with the birds to adorn the campus with the traditional ingenious displays of welcome. It was a day of cheery hellos and wann handshakes from seniors of yesteryear. The dedication of our beautiful new buildings marked the beginning of a new era. Old halls and new—monuments to father time and progress—brought gestures of disbelief from smiling old grads. Following luncheon in the new dining hall two generations of Millersville rooters watched the kill joy forces of Lock Haven end our eight-year skein of homecoming victories. Highlight of the halftime ceremonies was the crowning of lovely Barbara Brown as Varsity Queen. The traditional cider pour after the game was the scene of mixed hellos and goodbyes as many old MSTC adieu until next year. A fitting conclusion to this great day was the colorful spectacle of punch, women, and song—the Varsity Drag. In the bustle of events few of us stopped to think that by next year we will be on the other side of the fence—home for a day. “In the lake.” A public payment to a losing wager. The Marauders scored the goals and the victory was well-worth the price paid. The reign of the upperclassmen is not enforced by an iron hand but by the simple word, Button.” An immediate ordeal becomes a treasured memory. Old Main watches silently as fall again colors the leaves on campus and brings a crispness characteristic of autumn.
