TOUCHSTONE 'President's l%(essage to Cj rad nates ¥ To the Class of 1930: The formation of new acquaintances is always interesting and of social and educational significance. We may well consider that our acquaintance began during your initial preparation for teaching and during my first year as President of the College. From my point of view 1 have noted with interest and satisfaction the growth and development you have manifested. I am confident that you are well on the way to the realization that an education is begun at birth and that it never ends. You have prepared to serve in the Public Schools —an institution that has almost reached the century mark in its development. As you become more vitally connected with it, you will realize that it has advanced under the urge of problems in the development and enlightenment of youth and adults. A century ago the pioneer struggled to establish the Common School. You will be called upon to assist in extending the influence of the Public School to meet the many demands that modern society is placing upon it. The field in which you choose to work abounds with problems and will be very challenging to your future growth and development. I have the firm belief that the life you have led and the contacts and the associations you have formed here will be of great assistance to you as teachers and leaders of children. Landis Tanger, President.
