Col. and Mrs. C.M. Best founded Millersburg Training School in buildings of Kentucky Wesleyan College. Became Millersburg Military Institute with the motto Right Training is Better than Riches . Col. Best sold property to Bourbon County Board of Education. Seven citizens formed a stock company to continue MMI and bought Forest Hill home of Sanford Allen built in 1851. Moffet Flail erected as dormitoty and armory. Rankin Hall erected as classrooms, study hall and dormitory. MMI Board bought Millersburg Female College and established MMI Junior School. MMI became non-profit with perpetual charter. Board installed United States 55 C Reserve Officers Training Corps. Designated Honor School several years. 15 April Govenor Carroll proclaimed MMI Day. MMI went co-educational for day students in January. MMI Junior School property sold. 90th year of operation. State Basketball Champions. Has had outstanding records in all sports and activities. MMI has had eight superintendants during its 90 years of operation, several alumni graduates of all service academies and alumni outstanding in various fields of endeavor, i.e. law, medicine, science, business education and government. ED FORD MMI COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER Valedictory Address Ronald Clay Dampier I I! Senator Ed Ford, a resident of Cynthiana, serves the 30th District, an area made up of Bourbon, Fayette, Harrison, Nicholas, Robertson, Scott and Woodford Counties. A veterinarian, he is a graduate of Auburn University. He is past president of the Cynthiana-Harri- son County Chamber of Commerce; a member of the American, Kentucky and Buffalo Trace Veterinary Medical Associations; a member of the Farm Bureau, Rotary Club, VFW and American Legion. He was voted Harrison County Citizen of the Year in 1975 and was a member of the Harrison County Board of Edu- cation, 1971-77 and chairman of that board 1973-77. He was named “Veterinarian of the Year” in 1979 by the Kentucky Veterinary Medical Association. Since 1978 he has served with distinction in the Kentucky General Assembly, and was named “Outstanding Freshman Senator” his first year by the Capitol Press Corps. He has served on the Education, Agri- culture and Natural Resources Committees, and on the Banking and Insurance Committee.
