DEDI CATION The 1979 Sniper is dedicated to one of MMI's most distinguished sons of the Class of 1934, a trustee, graduation speaker on two occasions, generous benefactor and inspirational friend of the school throughout his lifetime - the late Arthur Wayne Plummer of West Point, Virginia. Mr. Plummer was instrumental in bringing the first female cadets to MMI in January 1977 culminating in the first female graduate and class valedictorian in this year's graduating class of 1979 - Juanita Margaret Tanner. Following graduation from MMI Mr. PIummer was the Cadet Colonel of the UK ROTC Regiment, served from 1941 to 1946 on Active Duty during World War II, and for over 20 years in the US Army Chemical Corps Reserves, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel, USAR. He held a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Kentucky and a Master of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He served as Technical Director of the Chesapeake Corporation of Virginia located in West Point, Virginia. Mr. Plummer, the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. A. B. Plummer and brother of Mrs. Karl Lusk of Millersburg was born and raised in Millersburg. Mrs. Arthur Wayne Plummer of West Point, Virginia, is currently filling Mr. Plummer's term of office as a trustee of MMI. On 19 May 1979 the MMI Library was formally dedicated by the Board of Trustees and assembled Alumni as the Arthur Wayne Plummer Memorial Library in recognition of Mr. Plummer's lifelong association both with MMI and with scholarship. It is with similar affection and recognition that the Staff and Faculty and Corps of Cadets dedicate this 1979 yearbook in his honor and memory.
