DEDICATION The 1976-1917 Sniper is dedicated to Major Charles Tanner in appreciation of his twelve years at MMI as teacher, chaplain, and friend. Of his three children - Charles Winfield II, James Cullen and Margaret - James graduated from MMI and Margaret numbered amoung the first group of young lady cadets in MMI's 84 years. 'Cap' Tanner received his A. B. degree from Kentucky Wesleyan College in Winchester, his B.D. degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and did his graduate work at Georgetown University, Morehead University and the University of Kentucky. Major Tanner has been engaged in the United Methodist's Pastoral Ministry for 15 years and served in many civic activities and conference offices. He was director of youth work for the Kentucky Conference of the United Methodist Church for three years and worked with the Boy Scouts of America for 15 years. In addition to raising black angus cattle on his farms in Harrison and Nicholas Counties he loves fishing and raising his two Collies, Spot and Trouble. 'Cap' especially likes working with young people, and those of us who have worked with him and under him appreciate all he's done for MMI and us. We wish him well in his new ministry in Millersburg and look forward to his continued interest in and friendship with MMI. 3

Millersburg Military Institute MILLERSBURG, KENTUCKY 40348 1 August 1977 Message From The President On behalf of the Board of Trustees and Staff and Faculty I want to congratulate the graduating seniors and eighth graders for a job well done upon the completion of MMI's 84th year. We wish our graduating seniors success as they continue their education at West Point and other schools of higher learning, begin service in the Armed Forces, or enter the business world. We hope they, as future alumni, will maintain a long and close association with MMI, their Alma Mater. Graduates and underclassmen alike can be proud of their achievements this past year. Also, the quality of the Corps of Cadets was greatly enhanced by the enrollment at mid-term of MMI's first young lady cadets, who acquitted themselves well and earned the respect and welcome acceptance by the boys. From my point of view the school year went very well, and some of the older hands maintain it was the best of many years. In either case it is a tribute to our fine Corps of Cadets who determine what type of school year we will have. Mrs. Hadley and I want to take this opportunity to thank the parents, alumni and friends of MMI for their continuing and most welcome assistance to us this past year. Without parental understanding and support we would have little chance of successfully providing the best possible living and learning environment that all of us want for our students.
