They have spent many weary hours to make this annual a success and I certainly appreciate it. Carole High, Editor in chief WE RESPECTFULLY DEDICATE THIS ANNUAL TO THE VOTERS AND TAXPAYERS OF THE MILLERSBURG-HARDY SCHOOL DISTRICT who have made possible that further expansion in school building and facilities that will offer modern educational opportunities to Millersburg-Hardy School children of the future. Time marches on and schools that were big enough and modern enough for our fathers do not suffice for the expanded needs. of our present school population. Unless our fathers, mothers, and friends had been wise enough to look into the future and self-sacri- ficing enough to pay the tax price, the younger generation now starting to school in Millers- burg would be definitely handicapped in educational opportunity. So, speaking for the entire Millersburg-Hardy School System, we say, Thank you for the new building and new equipment . It is our earnest wish and prayer that the children coming after us will be appreciative of the new school facilities. We hope they will render the best thanks possible, by working hard to secure a good education and, by putting that education into the making of effective citizenship, that our school may, indeed, reflect its work in the betterment of our village and entire school district. --Class of 1955 Millersburg High School KITCHEN HELP - - BUS DRIVERS JANITDRS We, the Senior Class of 55 wish to thank the kitchen help for the fine meals they have provided us with through the years we have spent in the Millersburg School. We thank the bus drivers for bringing us to school, even though there were times when we would rather have stayed at home. We thank the ianitors for cleaning up after us and for seeing that we were comfortable. We, the Senior Class of '55, salute you. A0 M I fVf5'7-RAT ION A W1 Hi f , f J f -f y , ff ' ' mf? 4 f Lf Zffffff J A V' fl 1 X PRINCIPAL Mr. Almendinger has had thirty years exper- ience at Millersburg High School. During that time he has been a history teacher, English teacher and music director. The last ten years he has served as a very capable principal. Mr. Almendinger advises all students to loin and participate in as many activities as they would enioy. It helps to develop character as well as learning to be a better citizen and student. We, the Senior Class of 1955, wish to thank him for all his help and expert advice he has given us through our four years of high school. SUPERINTENDENT Mr. William H. Knight came to our school last September. During this past year he has ad- iusted himself to the faculty and especially the student body. His pleasant and friendly per- sonality has given the students confidence to talk with him at any time. His education includes a B.S. in Education at Kent State, M.A. in school administration and supervision at Ohio State, and one additional year toward his doctor's degree at Ohio State and The University of Chicago. He started his career by teaching grade school for five years. The past twenty-six years he has been a superintendent in four different counties. With his experience, he knows how to tackle most problems quickly. We, the Senior Class of l955, wish to thank him for his help and guidance toward a better school. -.A LEFT TO RIGHT: Mr. Richard Steele, Mrs. Luther High, Mrs. Albury, Mr. Harold Wheaton, Mrs. Vance and BUARD 0F EDUCATION We, the Senior Class of l955, would like to thank the Board of Education for promoting the highest interests of our school. Under their leadership, the school has gradually improved with better equipment, better teachers and many other proiects. Dr. Keller. They have spent many long hours spreading the plans for the school bond issue which passed in the November election. With this project ahead of them this -group will help to invest the taxpayers' money in building a better school for better future citizens. l UFFIBE SECRETARY s The office wouldn't be complete without Mrs. Lawhead, the office secretary. No matter how busy she is, she always has time to supply us with our many needs. Her iobs are varied, but whatever they are, she can accomplish them very easily. We, the Senior Class of l955, salute Jean Lawhead for her generous help. FACULTY A I 1 5 2 'L i t 1 fe- H X' S 3 W f 4 f ,num Q Wd! - I tiff ' Q I f Q11 V ' CATHERINE HANSLIK LEONARD NIcCLA g ,. Mary Yoder and Sharon Lawhead were senior attendants, Gretchen Hoffman and Laurel Martin were iunior attendants, Sharon Menuez and Marcia De Witt were sophomore attendants and Cyn- thia Maxwell and Sally Miller were the freshman attendants. The weather was very muddy and rainy. Because of this, the attendants could not be presented on the field in cars. With umbrellas they went down through the bleachers and were presented to the football players. The queen was crowned at homecoming dance fol- lowing the games. Miss Susan Patterson and Mr. Greg Conrad carried the crown. THE JUNIUR CLASS PLAY S by is The iunior class play, January Thaw, was given Nov. 18 and 19 in the Millersburg High School Auditorium. Herbert Gage, a writer from New York City, his wife Marjorie, his daughters Paula, Sara and Barb and their maid, Frieda move into an old farmhouse in Conn. This house was previously occupied by Jonathan and Matilda Rockwood and their son Matt. It was believed that Jonathan and Matilda had died, but the fact of the matter was that they had iust been away on a long trip visiting relatives. The original purpose of the trip was to get their son out of trouble. When Jonathan's family comes back demanding their home, Herbert Gage and his family put up quite a fuss. The house is finally divided into two parts with neither family asso- ciating with the other. However, the Rockwoods knew how to survive a hard winter better than the city bred Gages. When the Gages have no food, electricity or heat, they had to give in and be sociable with the Rockwoods. Jonathan convinces Mariorie that the barn, remodeled, would be a much nicer place for the Gage family to live. So the Gages live in the barn and the Rockwoods in the house, each convinced that the got the better end of the bargain. The enthusiastic response of the audience proved the play a huge success. A X N X Y, Nq W ' xi s !,. JUNIOR-SENIOR PROM of 1954 The Junior-Senior Banquet was held at the Presbyterian Church at 6:00 P.M. Reverend Hand gave the invocation and Jack Blum, the iunior class president, gave the welcoming address and presented Miss McManis with a gift for her assistance throughout the year. Jim Metzler, senior class president, gave the response and Mr. Almendinger was the toastmaster. At 9:00 P.M. on the evening of May 22, 1954, the members of both classes and their guests danced to the music of Morgan Griffan. As they entered the dance floor, they checked their coats with the Hawaiian hatcheck girls, walked past the flower gardens and were shown to their seats by the native waiters. After the prom, Dick Stauffer entertained with an all night party and Ann Chadwick furnished the breakfast. All those who attended this prom will never forget the tropical atmosphere that was theirs for the evening. .sg - PRINCE 0F PEACE w...,NtY left to right: Wilma Porter, Evelyn Miller, Madeline Mikesell, Carl Young, .lack Blum. MAJUREITES The marching band, which is com- posed of 50 members, had a very successful year under the direction of their new teacher, Mr. Robert Culver. They played and performed at every game, home and away, during the football season. They were invited and participated in the band day at Wooster. The band feels that in a few more years of growing and training they will be one of the best in the county. Left to right: Gertrude Cline, Sally Miller, Libby Brenner, Barbara Jacobs, Head Maiorette-Cholly Atha. CONCERT BAND 00 The band is under the direction of Mr. Culver. Concert Band is made up of 48 members. This group learns to play more advanced music. They practice twice a week. They played for the Christmas program twice in assembly. They also put on a Pop Concert in the Spring. JUNIOR BAND C The iunior band is made up of 36 members, They are students who have iust been playing for the past year. In spite of the shortness of time they have been playing, they can play some pretty difficult music. It is our hope that they continue their hard work. GHURUS The mixed chorus is made up of forty members. For the first-time the chorus is limited. Tryouts were given and Mr. Culver made the selection. This way you have a group who have some knowledge of music and more can be accomplished by the group. They participated in the Christmas program put on by the whole school. They sang at the Christmas Eve services. During the spring they put on a Spring Concert. Follow- ing traditions the chorus sang for the Baccalaureate service. Betty Lou Patterson and Carole High accompanied the group this year. MADRIGAL GROUP The Madrigal Group is a very selected group of singers who enioy singing and have some knowledge ot music. There are twelve members in the group. Their music is all unaccompanied. They have two practices a week and the group is under the direction of Mr. Culver. GLASS PIIUPHEDY May 25, 1975 Massillon, Ohio Dear Mr. Almendinger, Here it is twenty years from the day of our graduation. I was sitting here thinking about the good old class of 55 . You surely remember the bagg-mouth class. Remember Jim Ritchey, how crazy all the girls were over him? The last I heard of him, he was in the pen serving a twenty year stretch for bigamy. He iust couldn't make up his mind about the women. Now he's without any. Just goes to show you can't have your cake and eat it too. By the way the warden was Andy Grassman. I remember one day in our senior year I was talking to Bill Badger. He told me he was going to college to learn how to make a million dollars. The other day I was in Columbus shopping and who do you suppose I saw? Yes, you've probably guessed it, Bill. There was an organ grinder on the street with his monkey. I walked up to put some money in the cup. I lust about dropped my lowers because it was Bill. That was a great shock. But, I had a greater shock to come! The monkey was Walter White!!! Then there was Dick Stauffer who wanted to be a doctor. While he was in school he accidently killed a few of his patients. He decided there was more future in being a mortician. This way the harm was already done. Be sure to stop in and see Richard N. Stauffer-your friendly undertaker. One day last week my husband and I were walking along Killbuck Creek enioying the scenery. We glanced down at the sewer and who do you think we saw? Duncan Estill, a sewer rat. Why with all those brains I thought he could do a little better than that. My husband, who is a great lover of basketball, recently attended a game between the Harlem Globetrotters and the Boston Celtics. When he came home and told me that Junior Liggett was the water boy for the Globetrotters I could hardly believe him. Junior wanted to be a basketball coach. Well, in a way it did come true. He is coaching the bucket. As l was going past one of the more prominent establishments in Cleveland I was astonished to see these names in neon lights: Cuddles Close, Amorous Ames, Nice Rice, and Rose La Rose Clark and first in the line were Erwin Swartzentruber, Ike Thomas, lslipped away from the womenl Don Smith and Rodney Frink, who was home on leave. Boy this class sure was a pip. The other day in the Hub there was a very interesting article on the front page. Mrs. Jim Weiss, the former Mariorie Finley, gave birth to quintuplets. There was also another interesting article in the paper about the famous explorer Harold Ackeret. He has iust gotten back from dark Africa bringing his new bride with him, the former Ugh Ugh. Not too long ago, one of my classmates visited me, Cholly Spahr. She, her husband and two children are home after being in Iran for two years. Her husband is in the oil business doing quite well. She told me that she ran into Don Waltman who is a horticulturist in Iran. Another very remarkable thing happened to her. They sailed home on the Queen Sarah and who do you think the captain was? Chuck Groff. Next there is Jack Blum who has a great chicken ranch. I suppose you can recall how he wanted to be a psychologist. Well, he didn't make it. I hear he is practicing without a license on his chickens. A few years back Herb Drushell won the Mr. Universe contest. He was modeling for Maude Mohler, who designs men's coveralls, but I don't know what he's doing now. Another thing l read in the paper was about Sharon Lawhead has a iob at the ice plant driving truck. You should see her hone that big thing around. Carole High is, of all things, a dope addict. Every once in a while I see her walking around the campus here. You can ask Mr. Banks about this because I don't think you knew about it. One day in Adult Living class .lim Hanna told Joe that his one quality in a wife would be that she would have to like the farm. He hunted for a long time and finally found one. You know them thar country girls are hard to find now days. He has a great wheat farm in Kansas. Evelyn Crandall is a great organist. Only last week she started on a world tour. She took Ann Chadwick, who is her personal dress designer, and Don Fry, her agent, with her. Oh, yes, I almost forgot Joel Weber is with her also. He pilots her private plane. Another thing I forgot to tell you is that when Harold Ackeret and his wife Ugh Ugh came home from Arica, Arlene Miller came with them. She is a missionary there. As for me I became a cosmetologist, got married and had my six children. You'd never guess what happened to me-I'm crazier than a loon. lt's not too bad though, they let me out once in a while until the kids get the best of me. I also get to use my training in cosmetology, that is until last week. I got mad at Marcia Miller, my nurse and pulled her hair out while I was fixing it. Now as I sit here in my padded cell picking the padding, and singing OUR ALMA MATER, I think of dear old M.H.S. and wish we were all back there again. Just crazy kids worrying about proms, plays and la'st and least grades. Yours insanely, Betty P.S. You should see Marcia. Boy does she ever look funny walking down the hall with her nurses cap on and no hair. THQ '9 lgymnj GERT Rommv Mm A 456 pi f ' . X . .
