We have tried to do this through the pictures of our administration, faculty, staff, and students. We have tried to preserve the memories of our many school activities by displaying the TEMPO of our school --our students at work and play. After graduating from M.H.S. in 1935, Mr. Virgil graduated from Purdue. He resided in this community and took part in education affairs including Benton Township trustee for 8 years and President of the Elkhart County School Re- organization . Frank Fetsch and Susie Schrock were the Junior attendants. The 1964 Junior -Senior Prom was held on April 25 at the Elcona Country Club. The entertainment was a Bubble Blower. Phyllis Ecklebarger furnished organ music for the dance. The chosen theme was Under the Sea. Chaperons: FRONT- -Mrs. Herschel Prough, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Long. F.F.A. During the 1964-65 school year the FFA engaged in many activi- ties. In the summer they took a trip which included stops at Gettysburg, Pa., Washington, D.C., New York, and the World ' s Fair. Shortly after school started they took a trip to Chicago to visit O ' Hare Field, W.L.S., and the International Livestock Show. Later on they went to the Farm Progress Show. In the spring they went to Maumee, Ohio to visit Andersons, Inc. and also to Detroit to see Ford Motor Co. , Ford Tractor Division, and Ford Museum . While taking the above trips the club traveled over 4, 000 miles. During the year the Judging teams competed at the state level in Soils and Crops. Slabaugh and S. Bates dancing at the Homecoming Dance. The Millersburg Sunshine Society this year had 48 members, each of whom chose a local woman to be her Ideal Lady. In the fall, 14 freshmen were initiated in a ceremony at the Eighth Street Mennonite Church in Goshen. Following this, a tea for Mothers and Ideal Ladies was held. Millersburg was represented by a bus load of SSS girls at the district convention at Ossian in October. As in past years, the Society elected Mr. Personality from candidates nominated by each class . The honor this year went to a junior, Tom Brock. The Society, always an active group, took cookies to the Bashor Chapel Home at Christmas time and sponsored the Homecoming Dance on February 13. The annual Sunshine Dance Lodge with Paris in Springtime as its theme. The final events of the year were the State Convention at Madison and the Mother ' s Tea in the Spring. They participated in solo and ensemble contest and in the N.I.S.B.O.A. district contest. They sang at Rock Run and Zion Churches, at the school Christmas program, and at Good Friday serv- ices. The Annual Staff has one function --to compile and edit this book, the MILLERETTE. Member- ship is on a voluntary basis with no school credit being given to the members for their work. Most of the work is done outside of school. Some of the more specific jobs include selling and collecting money for ads and copies of the book, arranging for group and underclassmen ' s pictures, and arranging pictures and copy on the pages . The first year of the Millers - burg F.T.A. was very successful with a total of 19 members joining. The club was given the name The Mary McDowell Chapter. All seniors helped the teachers by Cadet teaching. Other projects were watching elementary students during lunch hour and selling paper back books . 21 Millersburg High School pub- lished its first newspaper this year. It was given the name The Black and Gold. The paper is published bi-monthly by the Journalism Class. The staff, consisting of 15 mem- bers, is sponsored by Mr. Lozier. PEP CLUB OFFICERS 23 The high school band this year had 35 members. Of these, seven were seniors. The band marched at all home basketball games, and has participated in a solo and ensemble contest, in which a brass sextet and drum and marimba solos were entered, and in the N.I.S.B.O.A. district music contest. NIHS sent nine players to the Elkhart County Music Festival, and took part in the Band Day at Ball State Teacher ' s College. Our band was part of the Ambulance Fund Drive ' s combined band in Goshen. Whirledge, A. Leinbach. Again this year Millersburg won the Millersburg Relays. In doing this they set a new record by running the 10- mile course in 50 minutes and 50 sec . The old record was 52 min. and 50 sec. During the season the team had a record of 7 wins a and 3 losses and placed 4th in the county meet. Varsity players are Dave Bontrager, Marlin Miller, Alan Leinbach, Terry Ropp, Dave Whirledge, Dave Rink, Steve Fisher, Joe Con- rad, Gary Huber, and Nevin Honderich. Kneeling in front are Coach Toby Kidder and mascot Todd Kidder. BASKETBALL The MHS varsity basketball team had a fine 14-6 record this season, losing only three regular season games . Of the nine members, Steve Fisher, Marlin Miller, Dave Rink, Gary Huber, Alan Leinbach, and Jim Bates are seniors. Two of the students managers, Ron Miller and Steve Worthman, are also graduating this year. The season ' s highlights included Rink ' s 41 points scored in a losing effort against Middle - bury and Fisher ' s 30 in an overtime against Jefferson. Congratulations to Steve Fisher on receiving the Most Valuable Player award, Alan Leinbach and Gary Huber the Sportsmanship award. Huber also received the Varsity Free Throw trophy. Alan Lein- bach set records in the Low hurdles of 22 seconds and High hurdles of 18.7 seconds. Steve Fisher high jumped 6 feet and threw the shot 47 feet 1 inch. They were runner up to New Paris in the B-Team Holiday Tourney. Nevin Honderich won the Free Throw award by shooting 71%. Randy Stouder missed most of the season with a severe injury to his leg. The B -Team ' s record was 9 wins and 5 losses. The varsity out- scored their opponents by an average score of 43 to 37, while the B-Teamdid the same by a score of 35 to 28. Leading scorers for the varsity were Miller with 285 points and Fisher with 159 points. B-Team scoring was led by Anderson with 92 points and Brock with 60 points . The superintendent creates the conditions in which the teacher can perform to the best of his ability, while the principal works more closely with the stu- dents themselves, but the entire administration must work toward the goal of providing the best education for the community.
