S3 QSRQQLIUT. I-2!:.V'lELaLJ I t The first grade started off with 26 enrolled. There were 16 boys and lO girls. The first grade reading began with a reading readiness book en- titled, BEFORE WE READ. This was followed by three preprimers, cone prhner, and one first reader. These required readers were completed by the middle of March, After that, we completed a very difficult first reader called HEAIEH STORIES. All enjoyed this supplementary reading material very much, H . The Library Club has been very helpful and enjoyable. In. this club, the children read books at home, As much as possible, these books were checked on return. Thanks to the parents for their co- operation in this reading club. In arithmetic, reading and writing numbers to- one hundred was the first work undertaken. This has been followed by measurements telling time, money value, Roman numerals, number words, and addition and subtraction of small numbers. The trips away from school have been to the fish hatchery at Syracuse, the air pert, and numerous trips about town. 2 . The school year 1950-1951 found the second grade a busy, happy room with twenty-boys and ten girls. During the year two more girls joined us. Reading, writing, arithmetic, spelling, English, and health, our basic work, kept us busy, but we found time for several fmparties and games and story periods which we all enjoyed. Miss McDowell helped us put on a fine music progrmn. Thank you for all our nice art pictures. Several new books were added to our library. E We were glad for all the parents who visited us. So long we will see you next year as third grade people. fx The third grade consists of eleven girls and nineteen boys Ada Miller moved to Michigan but Joy Graber and Richard Kauffman joined us John Hoitzinger has been a shut-in classmate since the first week of December, He does his school wsrk at hone and has private classes two hours a week. The activities of the year have varied. An excursion to Stan- ley's Superiiarket was indeed a super one, Choral speaking was often e GVQQQK fQ!:QXf'IELgU QC-CJVTI 'Lil enjoyed toward the close of a busy day, A steady growth of each child was observed when the heights and weights were recorded in October, January, and April. 414 The fourth grade started with twenty pupils. Larry Kauffman and Helen Shaffer moved away, later Sharon Eash entered. They liked their new desks and the new library books. They enjoyed their Bible Study, art music, and song,f1ute lessons Much interest was shown in the geography classes by the pupils brings ing things produced by people of other countries, Maps, .stenegraphy, and view master sets were used as aids in geography and health, Some liked arithmetic so well they worked far ahead of the class. Most ef the liked reading stories, espeeailly these about animals, birds, and other things of nature. The Busy fBee Book gC1ub sgavoppractice 'and interest in English library reading and also lessons in leadership and S Ol V1CC, 5556 , This year we started out with twenty-nine pupile. Later we re. ceived another, Franklin Graber, from North Dakota, We have enjoyed a real school year with some educational movies, and quite a lot of new reading books were added to our room library, 'Our year's attendance has been quite good. The usual flu bug get some, Measles caught a few, But most of the pupils have gone through with pretty good attendance records. S if N FOR PEfiSONfXLHlEiQ Ha talkingg Pa is sort of a quiet feller. He never says hardly anything, I guess that's cause I do most of the 'talking. Another thing about Pa is he has a way with the women folk. I guess I never would of got him if it weren't for my big brother and my dadg they went out after him one Sunday morning and we were married that after4 noon, I still don't know how they done it so quick. Wal,here he is. We kind of decided he'd do most o the talkin' tonite. Spit out thet chaw, Paw and come on up here. Pa talking: Sech a long winded person I never did see, The only reason she let me do the talking tonite is that she is so bashfulg you noticed how she turned red, didn't you?' Ma always has been that-a-way though. Why the first time ah saw her, thot was the day her brother and dad decided she should get married, she turned so red thet people came from miles around with buckets of water askin whar the fire was. uHawu NHawN thet's a little bit exagerated but then it ain't often I gits to talk so much at one time. Wal Maw says I'm supposed to tell you folks about all our kids. I guess I can start out with Hans Emazus, Now Hans is kind of bash- ful, but he's an awful good worker. Another thing about Hans is, he likes to singg thet kid is always singin no matter what he's a doin. Stand up there Hans. Next is Liga Keith. Keith is also a pretty good worker, but he's always a running away from home after girls and somebodys always fetching him back. Git up there Keith. Next is George Abraham. I guess George is the lidlest one we got but then don't let looks deceive ya, he kin take his part amongst any a the otherns. Funny thing about George though, and thet is he never wants to ge anywhere. When all the other kids go to parties, he never wants to go along.' I guess right along with George we ought to mention his twin brother, Lyle Mortimer. Now don't ask me how it happened cause I don't knowg all I know is they were born on the sane day in the same year, Why ther's as much difference between em as the north and south pole. I guess Iyle's about the best natured of the lot, but it's just awful hard to get him to work as you kin see. Wal,next we got Richard Luke. New if you ever want to find Richard, just go out into the woods and there you'll find him huntin. That boy is just crazy about dogs. Another thing about him though is that he's kind of girl crazyg show yourself there Richard. After Luke comes Glen Amos. Now as you kin see, Glen, along with Richard there, has about the curliest hair in the familyg he gits thet from my side. Glen is also a little bit short, along with George over here. There is one thing I can't underspand about thet boy and thet is, one day he comes up to me and says, Pa kin I have H17 fer a class ring,U and I asked him if it was necessary, He said yes, so I gave it to him. I ain't seen the ring yet, and thet was more than a year agog Now where it got to I don't know. Stand up there,Glen. There is something else though and that is he's an awful good car mechanic. Stand up there Dick , Next here is Junior Clem. New Junior is another short one along with a few a the others, and he's a pretty good worker. But Gosh Omijhty, all thot kid wants to do is sleopg we have the awfullest time gcttin'him up. Jungor also likes sports pretty wellg stand up thena Junior. Next is Richard Lester. New you might wonder why we named him such a prominet name as dichagg Lester. Well, when he was born we thought he was, among all ou15 gding to amount to somethingg he had the intelligent look. But boy what a disappointment! Oh, I guess heh as smart on any of the boys but some of the things he thinks of, xseeh' as puttin'r big spring on the handle of the ax and a weight on the head so tht ax would work itself while he sits in the shade. Wave to to em Richard. T 1 - 1 S- text is John Ezra. New John is a pretty good worker if he fgits enoufh sleep, hut my land he never gets in from eourtin'at nite till it's tint to start chores in the morninQ HQ's an awful fast runner thoughg he runs rabbits down instead o shootinfem. Git up there John. New the last of my boys is.Boh Hezikia. I guess Ebb is about the tallest kid I got, and he's the most awkward. Why thet kid can't walk from the harn to the house with a bucket of milk without spilling it. and there's anotherh always trying to invent something to save work. Why just the other day, he was a studying awful hard, and I asked .him what he nfs a doing. he said that he was trying to invent an alarm clock which would go out and do chores and then wake him up. Wal thot takes cart ortho boys. ' We ain't get near as many girls as boysg still there is a good hunch. Over here on my right is Emily Amanda. HMr.'Merkle's Muddlen turned dull moments into laughter for about two hours, Dur Constitution test in Government brought sweat to the brows, but was rewarded with big returns, With that event behind us, we really were able to enjoy our party in the gym February 28, March 16 might just as well have been strichen-frem the records as far as our intellect and ability were concernedg for after that grand day in Detroit on March 15, who felt like studying, who felt like talking about anything but Detroitg in fact, we were so tired, who felt like talking about anything? On May 18, we were really the honored guests, and the juniors surely made us feel as honored guest in the way that they entertain- ed us with a grand banquet and everything that goes with it to make that evening one to be long remembereda And to you juniors, we wish to thank you most heartily for that grand reception, Our Baccalaureate on May 20 was the first event of the week oeening our Graduation activitiesg it was closely followed by our Class Night on May 22, with the Commencement on May 25. And now, Dad and Mother, here we are tonight to enjoy the anni- versary with you. It is with deep regret that these so 1 could not h ve bemi van in the days when we were undergraduate ,as a Q as we are sure they would have made it so much more pleasent for the pupils at M, H, S, First some advice to the teachers as a body, We advise iyou to form a uniong that way you may be able to receive more wages, Also start calling the'pupils with a Mr. or Miss before their names. They are important toe, for without them you would not have a teaching job, You could be patriotic by saving paper and not writing a permit every- time someone leaves the roomy you know you can trust us, New for some individual advice. We advisellr, Davis to allow the pupils to run in the halls. Can we help it if we are so eager to get to our next interesting classes, Also let the class tourney continue, We like to win one tournament in our high school days. We advise Mr. LeCount to try some super method of coaching. By new you surely realize that'Millersburg just doesn't have the material for a good basketball team, The track boys would like to get awards that we could be proud of every year instead of a dinky little tin shoe in our last year. We advise Miss Fredenburg to grab a young man. 'hn're not getting any younger, p 1 We advise Mrs, Snyder to get a new hobby. Keeping pupils offthe honor roll with a C plus gets mighty discouraging. But thanks a lot for a super job directing our play, We advise Miss Saddler to stay'at M. H. S. as it's not very often we get good looking women teachers. Thanks a million for helping on our annual, for without you we could not have published one, h We advise Miss Hear not to let Dick eat a meal in the cafeteria, It might break the engagement, and that would be drastic, We advise Mr, Treyer to join the Marines because they need good men like you, p We advise Mr, Howard to practice some of the things he teaches in farming, After all Purdue isnft always correct. We cannot give Miss McDowell any advise as we feel sure she has dnno the best job possible with the music department at M. H. S, an -., E ' b.. 5.7 I8 U M V5 L I.-. Ever Since we started a high school career four years ago, we have had the habit of grumbling. Some of us do it only part of the time while others do it almost all of the time. Why did the freshman class always hang around in groups rather than a large portion of the class together? L class that works to- gether gets along better than one which works separately. ' Why does the freshman class usually have a greater per centage of its class on the honor roll than the other classes9 ls it because they like to start off high school at a fast pace? Why ean't the classes pick their own sponsors instead of having them aooointed? I think the classes would eo-operate with the sponscr better. Why do some persons always crab when a teacher tells them to get to work and stop loafing? After all, who gets the blame if the studenmrmake low grades in the course--the teacher. Why is there a limit on those who can enter the library? It is for the school's use and is needed as a source for information. Why can't the school get new baskettall suits More often? It would look better and would help to make the boys feel like playing a better brand of basketball. Why doesn't the classes of the high school gc on more field trips? They always were both educational and fun before. Why isn't there D clock in every room So the students can see what time it is? Maybe they wouldn't be lite for the next class so often if they knew when the bell was going to ring. Nr. LeCount wonders why every promising track star he gets either quits school or moves away before the track season opens, Why do so many students who enter high school as a freshmen drop out before their final year? The last year is the test year of all, you know. Why can't the school have more and better maps around? You could get a lot more out of a course if there were more maps. Why doesn't the school have a larger playground and better play- ground equipment? The way it is now, most of the students stand a- round at noon. Why does Mr. Davis cough louder than anyone else in the school? It keeps the students from studying, DEDlCfX'HQN We,the Yillercttf St2ff,dedicate this Pnnual to the frQHu9tPQ of Villcrsburw H125 School who are nov in the armed services of the United States of Americn, HUVICE TU FHCULTY LEUUVDJ Last but not least, we advise the cook to join the Woes, Lihen mfybe you could cook for 12 months a year instead of only 9. E der the circumstances we can compliment you for the good job yeufre doing. ' We nope this has been taken in the manner it was given. All in fun, GUMBLE Why are the school clocks usually all different? They can't all be right. Why don't they get new pictures in the study hall? The old ones date back to about 1805. Why don't they rebuild or repair the steps leading to the study hall? It is like walking up a washboard, Why do we have to go to school so long? Where do the seniors get all the jokes they use in bookkeeping? Why don't we have a longer noon hour? Why do we have to write these grumbles? They are treated so lightly. What is the matter with the school heating system? Why did the bookkeeping class calm down all of a sudden? Q Why doesn't the Millersburg Band ever get any new instruments? Why don't they get the janitor a helper? What happened to this year's track team.
