Riepenhoff 1967-84 IN MEMORY OF BOB Life is a tangled web of people- relationships'' woven by God. People enter our lives and touch us, adding to our scrapbooks of memories, and then they leave before we are through knowing and loving them. How can we know when the time for goodbye is near? How can we know who we are seeing or speaking to for the last time? How can you halt your life to hold those who are dearest to you near? God is our creator and the loving weaver of our life web. He is the center of it, where all of us begin and where we end. In the same way that Bob was a farmer; a harvester of crops, gathering the best grain that he could grow, so God is a harvester, gathering His best children to be near Him. Even though in the context of time, Bob's life was very short, the path God wove for him was long and intertwined with many people. Those who knew him realize how many friends he had, and how many people he touched with his easy going personality and that goofy smile he gave so freely. Bob, we just want you to know that we love you so very much. You have permanently affected our personalities and our lives. We know that God is happy to have you with Him, so until we can see you again, we will be content with the knowledge that you are in His care, and that the worries and troubles of this world will never touch you. Your sister, Kathy 2 The MCANN theme this year is Bring Out The Best. We have captured the best in athletics, organizations, people and school activities. We feel we've accomplished a great deal this past school year. We hope this MCANN will help you to remember all the good times we've shared together. Here's how they met the challenge. pgiS 1.1.A. goes to state convention. 2. Let s go girls! 3. Seniors girls and Steve 4. Picture books?? 5. Hey! Hey! Baby! 6. Together. Again? 7. Say cheese! 17 Chicago . . . The Overnight Adventure 18 It was 6:00 a.m. and believe it or not, the Seniors were up at school. They weren't waiting for their classes to begin, but they were waiting for the Lakefront Trailway Bus to arrive for their overnight trip to the Windy City! But as usual the bus was late, so they jammed out with their ghetto blasters until the bus showed up. Once in Chicago, the Seniors saw such points of interest as The Museum of Science and Industry, The Museum of Natural History, Billy Goat Tavern, and The Sears Tower. Before seeing a dinner show called Shear Madness, the Seniors dined at Ben- nigan's. They also went on the elevated train and attended a baseball game between the Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers. The Class of '85 stayed at the Marriot, a very nice hotel which had tennis courts, a swimming, and a whirlpool. It included a delicious breakfast buffet for Saturday morning. The bus ride to and from Chicago was the scene of many ac- tivities — jamming out to the ever-blasting rock and roll, trying to catch up on sleep lost the night before, and even that un- forgettable card game on the way home. The Seniors all had a blast on their two-day adventure. They were very proud to be the first class in 20 years to have an overnight class trip. 19 Graduation Because of the baseball state tournaments, the graduation this year was postponed from May 31 to June 7. This event made the year even more special for the Seniors. After the processional into the gym, the Seniors sang their class song, Let's Celebrate.” Following their song Kevin Barlage gave the welcome speech. Next came the slide presentation, which showed scenes of the Seniors throughout the year. Carol Barlage then gave an in- spiring farewell. After this Mr. hammers made a few comments about the class and Mr. Wm. Hermiller Jr., President of the School Board, presented the diplomas to the students. 20 Following the receiving of diplomas, Class President Kris Oedy led the class in changing the tassels from right to left. Kris then handed the class funds over to Mr. Kreinbrink. He made a few comments and the graduates proceeded out, not just out- side but into a life where they will go where their destiny leads them. We wish these graduates the best of luck in their future endeavors and congratulate them on their 13 years of success. We spent 13 years of our life going to this building, and these pic- tures represent some of our changes through the years. From classroom work to school dances, MCHS has brought out the best in school life. 25 26 Yield Day and Freshman Mixer The Miller City school yard was the scene of the annual Field Day on September 14. Balloons, eggs, and whip- ped cream were all parts of the class com- petition. The Seniors were the winners by a large margin. Later that night, the Freshmen were in- itiated into high school when they at- tended the first dance of the year, the Freshman Mixer. Soundwaves came to the Miller City Parish Center to rock the place between 8:00 and 11:00 p.m. This year many wore sunglasses, and of course the crazy Seniors decided to form their own gang. We will always remember the great time we had. Spring Dance This year the Seniors sponsored a Spring Dance to say farewell to the high school underclassmen. The hard-rocking music was played by Soundwaves from 8:30 to 11:00 p.m. The Seniors did their usual dressing up by wearing their Senior shirts. Some of the underclassmen got into the spirit and wore crazy items, but we still are trying to figure out what they were supposed to be. Halloween 184 On October 31, 1984, ghosts and goblins were seen roam- ing the halls of MCHS. Some people even improved their looks for this special occasion. There was a beauty contest held by the Spirit. The winners are shown at the right. They were: Mr. Paul Lenz, J. R. Schieber, Don Schmenk, Annette Noirot, Becky Gable. 28 MOST OUTGOING Pam Niese Brian Shafer MOST TALKATIVE Steve Alt Karen Kohls BEST PERSONALITY Tom Lehman Kelly Niese BEST DRESSED and CUTEST COUPLE Bruce Kreinbrink Paula Ordaz Senior Selections MOST POPULAR Linda Morman Tom Lehman MOST SCHOOL SPIRIT Paul Weis Sis Palte MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED: Carol Barlage and Kevin Barlage. It was also performed for both the high school and grade school. The show allowed many students to demonstrate their talents and have a good time while doing it. The Seniors per- formed a one-act play Bernice Bobs Her Hair by F. Scott Fitzgerald. They also closed the show with their version of California Girls. The Freshmen presented a skit Number, Please and sang Rocking at Midnight. Some of the solo singing acts included You're the Inspiration, I Just Called to Say I Love You, and All Out of Love. Other perfor- mances were Doubly Good to You, Me and My Shadow, and music by the Pep Band. 36 A special thanks goes out to Mrs. Ian- tha Barlage and Mr. Stephen Powell for all their hard work in getting the show together. Also, much credit is given to the lights, sound, and VTR people. They helped to make the show more exciting and enjoyable. 37 The 1985 Prom Court as pictured from left to right: First attendants Bruce Kreinbrink and Paula Ordaz, standing are last year's queen and king Julie Inkrott and Roger Wenzinger, seated are Queen Linda Morman and King Tom Lehman, second attendants Rick Barlage and Kris Oedy. 38 The juniors honored the seniors with a beautiful prom on April 19, 1985. The juniors and seniors arrived with their dates at 8:00 p.m. to be greeted with the music of Horizon.” The band played square dances, rock, and romantic melodies. At 10:00 the court was announced, a buffet was served, and each of the seniors was given a treasurable wine glass. The theme Time Is All We Need was not enough to keep the clock from ticking down to 11:00 and the prom of 1985 was ended. The seniors really had a good time and thank the juniors for this night they'll never forget. The FFA Banquet was held on March 19 in the M.C. gymnasium. Advisor Frank Schroeder presented the members with trophies, plaques, and awards for their accomplishments during the year. The FFA members elected Kris Oedy queen and Connie Wenzinger and Carla Niese as attendants for the banquet. Upper right, FFA Officers: Sentinel Chris Brown. Mrs. Gerten prepared the delicious dinner after which Mrs. Miller presented awards to the members. Carol Barlage, Sis Palte, and Patty Ricker received their State Degrees. Following the banquet and presentations, the Home Ec Department held a Style Show in which they modeled the clothes they created this year in class. 41 Athletic Banquet The athletes of M.C. High School were honored May 15 at the annual athletic banquet. This year was the highest participation of students in sports. The Senior athletes were honored for their contributions which led their teams to great successes. This year's boys varsity basketball team was very successful. For the first time since 1964 the mighty Wildcats cap- tured the PCL crown. The 8th grade boys also proved to be the best in the county by bringing back the first place trophy in their tournament. The baseball team once again went to the State Semi-finals. Despite playing a great game, the Wildcats were defeated by the Class A Champs, Skyvue. The boys are still 1 to us and we congratulate all of them. A freshman track participant, Amy Vennekotter, also went to State for her record breaking 400m. dash. She did a fine job and received 6th place. The scholastic banquet was held this year on May 22, 1985. More students than ever before were honored for their achievements. These honors included the Principal's Award, individual class awards, honor roll, and perfect attendance. Awards were also presented to the students from the Ohio Board of Regents, Continental Telephone, the Army, Ohio University, BGSU, and the MC-NC Teachers' Association. Students were recognized for their participation in the Ohio Tests of Scholastic Achievement and seven seniors received the Presidential Academic Fitness Award. This banquet which was sponsored by the National Honor Society was a huge success. 4} Bring Out the Best in Athletics This year MCHS brought out the best in athletics. All of the hard work and hours spent practicing pay off in the end as the final buzzer goes off and another victory is in the hands of the players. The following pages show the accomplishments of our M.C. players. 45 • • and More Sports These photos capture some of the athletes at their best. This year the eighth grade team became PCL Champs. Mr. McGlaughlin led the boys basketball team through another great season. The baseball team went to state for the third straight year, and a freshman trackster competed in the final races in Columbus. Among the highlights of the season was winning eight con- secutive matches and playing in the Putnam County League championship game. The girls always displayed hustle, determination, and sportsmanship while representing Miller City High School. The nine girls on the team this year were all quality individuals on the court, in the classroom, and in the community. Mr. McGlaughlin feels that being able to have worked with such fine people for 2' i months has been a privilege for him, and he respects and admires all of his student athletes for their ac- complishments during the season and in their high school careers. During tournament though, the guys really buckled down and started to play basketball. This talented group of athletes brought the County Title back to Miller City once again. All members must have responsibility, teamwork and good leadership to be a part of an organization. This year brought out the best of these qualities and provided for a challenge for students to do their best. 71 Majorettes and Flags The Marching Band was led by Head Majorette Linda Morman. A flag corps was organized, which added talent, color, and excitement to the band. It took a lot of patience and effort in organizing this year's annual, such as, laying out, choosing the theme and selling ads. To all those who helped and Miss Ruen, we say thanks and lots of luck in successfully creating next year's annual. Student Council 80 This year the Student Council consisted of eleven reliable and hard-working members who were busy planning activities throughout the school year. These activities included Field Day, Freshman Mixer, a Halloween movie, Homecoming, and class of- ficer elections. To raise money the group held an Easter Raffle and sold beverage coolers. The Student Council has done a great job in making school life more fun and enjoyable for the student body. Above: Row 1: Sandy Inkrott, Vice-President Carla Niese, President Linda Mor- man. The members raised money by selling cookies and candy bars. The senior girls, disguised as the Spirit, made locker decora- tions and signs for the hall to promote school spirit. The of- ficers did a great job and used their leadership qualities throughout the year. First Row: Advisor Mary Jane Miller, Fatty Ricker. These teachers must show participation in school and its activities, have taught at M.C. at least one year, and possess characteristics such as enthusiasm, tact- fulness, and friendliness. The NHS hopes to provide an incen- tive for the teachers to keep up the good work. Student of the Month Every month the National Honor Society selects a Student of the Month. These students are selected on the basis of their participation in school and the leadership they show in and out of the classroom. The Journalism class has many fond memories of putting out the Wildcatter every month. Time and effort was very much part of forming ideas and collecting information to typing articles and selling them to the student body. Since this is Mr. Tom Slagel's last year of being the school newspaper advisor, the school would like to give him a big thanks for all his hard work. 86 Boys’ and Girls’ State and Scholastic Bowl The 1985 Scholastic Bowl team had their first year of extend- ed county competition. The county set up a schedule of games to be played. The team's record after the completion of the schedule determined the match-ups in the county tournament. A team was chosen from among the whole high school. They could be seen practicing every Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:00 a.m. with Mr. Raudabaugh and Mr. Lenz, first year advisors for the team. The team did well and learned a lot. Underclassmen gained the experience needed to compete next year. We changed from an eight period to a nine period school day. We also came under guidance of a new counselor and some new courses were added. Then the seniors found out that they must go the full school year just like all of the underclassmen. But 1 think everyone will agree that it was a great school year and it will be remembered by all. Everyone contributed a little something to make the school year a huge success. We hope through our annual you may see the pride we showed in our accomplishments in athletics and school activities.
