To the bus drivers who transport us safely to school through snow, sleet and rain. To the secretaries who manage the day-to-day business. To the cooks who prepare tasty meals. And lastly to the janitors who clean up after us. We extend our thanks to all of these people and hope they continue to do a terrific job in the coming years. They help us through the years, teaching not only the proper usage of their and there but also the true meaning of the words fair and share. They do a superb job handling this challenge. From everyone, they deserve our wholehearted thanks. School Board Seated: Mr. Joseph Lammers, Treasurer; Mr. John Alt, President; Mr. Rich- ard Barlage, Vice-President. Standing. Word has it that the city is amazingly still standing. Their whirlwind tour on April 25 exposed the Seniors to many different sides of the windy city. The Sky- deck of the Sears Tower offered an unu- sual perspective of the city from 1,353 feet above ground. At the Board of Trade they witnessed trading in the pits. Leisure time was spent at the Water Tower Shopping Cen- ter, shopping and eat- ing. Later the Museum of Science and Industry dazzled them with its wonders. The unavoidable long bus ride dimmed the otherwise bright day. But the Seniors, being as resourceful as ever, filled the time with games of twenty questions, cards and simply being with friends. Chicago ... Chicago ... • 1 - Our first view of Chicago! How do they clean the windows? The view from 10 floors up. Catching some V Modern Art of a loose spring? The front of the Sears Tower Honored with a whole page for myself in the annual, I want to thank all the peo- ple at Miller City who made my attendance possi- ble. All the friendly faces and smiles made me feel I was one of you. It was a great experience. If any- one of you is interested in going overseas do it because it is a life experience. Love To Everyone, Rini RINI Waiting and watching on the sidelines. Fast approaching is their year at the top. Hoping they will prove equal to the challenges they will find. u N D E R C L A S S M E 39 40 Rayl: Lori Balbaugh (Student Council) Ann Barlage Ray 2: Bonnie Barlage Karen Barlage Dave Bratton Cindy Deitering Doug Deitering Dave Ellerbrock Ray 3: Barb Cable Joe Hermiller Linda Hermiller Dave Inkrott Pam Inkrott (President) Annette Klear (Vice President) Ray 4: Annette Kleman (Treasurer) Cliff Koening Beth Kreinbrink Greg Kuhlman Kelly Lafountain Diane Lammers Ray 5: Lori LammerS Jim Leis Sue Liebrecht Daryl Maag Doug Meyer Gary Morman Ray 6: Betty Nadler Jill Niese Louie Niese Mary Jane Niese Daisy Niese Rodney Niese Ray 7: Tammy Noirol Mike Palle lanice Rieman Kathy Riepenhoff Kathy Rigg land Root Ray 8: Sandy Rosengarten Sue Rump (Secretary) Dennis Schmenk Marge Schnipke (Student Council) DuWayne Schroeder leanne Schroeder Ray 9: Karen Schroeder Lori Schroeder Marlene Schroeder Steve Schroeder Gene Siefker Laura Steffen Ray 10: Tom Stuber linda Tobe Leo Tripp Denny Vennekotter (Student Council) Wilma Vennekotter Brad Verhoff Ray 11: Greg Verhoff Diane Wagner Marty Wagner Shelly Wagner Scott Wagner Becky Warnimont Ray 12: Randy Wenzinger Debbie Westrick 4) 42 Ray 1 frank Barlage Chris Cavanaugh (Secretary) Ken Deitermg Ray 2 Doug Eller brock lac kie Erfnrcl (Treasurer) Beth Felter Tammy Fran Greg Gable Norma Gerten Ray 3: Rose Gustwiller Ginny Hermiller Howard Hermiller Tim Heuerman Diane Hoffman leff Inkrott Ray 4 lisa Inkrott Karen Kern Dale Kleman Lawrence Kleman Gary Kohls Mark lammers Ray 5: Terry lammers (Student Council) Mike Miller Frances Morman Sharon Morman Alen Niese Donna Niese (Student Council) Ray 6: Doug Niese Roy Niese Sherri Niese john Ordaz Dan Palle lori Recker Ray 7: Julie Riepenhoff Nancy Riepenhoff Shirley Rosengarlen Dean Rump laurie Schieber Patti Schnipke (President) Ray 8: Gordon Schroeder larry Schroeder Kevin Siebeneck larry Steffen Sue Stuber lisa Vennekotter (Vice President) Ray 9: Greg Wagner Val Wagner Carl Warnimont Dan Warnimont Roger Warnimont Tammy Warnimont Ray 10: Robert Wenzinger lanet Westrick Karen Westrick 43 44 Ravi: Karen Balbaugh Marsha Balbaugh Greg Barlage Kris Barlage Tony Bratton Ray 2: Laura Beming Tina Case Shelly Cavanaugh Donna Deitering (Secretary) Keith Eiden Robbie Ellerbrock Ray 3: Jeff Forster Dave Gable Norman Gerten Ken Hermiller Lois Hermiller Rose Ann Hermiller Ray 4 Jill Inkrott Brian Klear Theresa Kleman (President) Ned Kreinbrmk Chris Kuhlman leff Kuhlman Ray 5 Brenda Lammers Dale Lammers Kris lammers Tim Lehman lay Meyer Jackie Niese (Treasurer) Ray 6: Jeff Niese Tina Niese Tom Niese Irene Ochoa Glenn Richardson Carol Rieman Ray 7: Theresa Rosengarlen Tom Schieber Jerry Schmenk Doug Schnipke Bev Schroeder Karen Schroeder Ray 8 Joan Schroeder Rose Schroeder Daryl Siebeneck Connie Siefker Rick Thornton Mark Tobe Ray 9: Terry Tripp left Vennekolter (Student Council) Pam Verhoff (Student Council) Terry Wagner David Wank Gary Warnimont Ray 10: Martin Warnimont David Watson Lisa Weis (Vice President) Pam Westrick Annette Wilhelm 45 Row 1: Dave Balbaugh Row 2: Judy Barlage Carrie Burgei Row 3: Antonio Carrillo Dale Cass Jenny Deitering Row 4: Mark Deitering Sandy Dulle Lois Ellerbrock Lori Ellerbrock Row 5: Rick Cilgenbach Jeff Hermiller Lenny Hermiller Julie Inkrotl Lisa Johnston Row 6: Maryann Klear Jackie Kleman Paul Korney Alan Kruse Craig Kuhlman Mike Lammers Row 7: John Lehman Kathy Leis Karen Liebrecht Lisa Miller Rick Niese Natalie Noirot Jim Richardson Row 8: Joan Riepenhoff Tina Ruck Pam Ruhe Shelly Schieber Sue Schieber Chris Schnipke Denny Schroeder Row 9: Elaine Schroeder Lynne Steffen Joe Verhoff Kathy Wank Jim Warnimont Nathan Weis Roger Wenzinger 46 Row 1 Carol Barlage Row 2: Kevin Barlage Rick Barlage Row 3: Chris Brown Kathy Deitering Paul Gerten Row 4: Leroy Johnston Dean Kaufman John Kleman Row 5: Karen Kohls Bruce Kreinbrink Scott Kuhlman Bonnie lammers Row 6: Connie Lammers Mark Lammers Barb Lause Tom Lehman Linda Morman Row 7: Rick Morman Carla Niese Kelly Niese Pam Niese Robbie Niese Paula Ordaz Row 8 Michelle Palte Patti Ricker Jodi Rump John Schieber Mike Schieber Ron Schnipke Louise Schroeder Row 9: Mark Schroeder Scott Schroeder Brian Shafer Gail Siebeneck Dave Warnimont Paul Weis Connie Wenzinger 47 Students are bonded together by common interest, challenged by present projects, and rewarded by seeing another dream fulfilled. 0 R G A N 1 Z A T I O N S 49 Future Homemakers of America A very active year was had by the Future Home- makers of America under the leader- ship of President Kim Lafountain. This purpose, of building farmers for the future, provides foundation for an FFA chapter. Fifty-eight members under Mr. Frank Schroeder, their new advisor, accom- plished many success- ful activities including selling fruit, a banquet and trash pick-up day. Field trips were taken by Seniors and Juniors to Homier Sons and the Farm Sci- ence Review, while the Sophomores and Freshmen toured Henry Implement to gain experience out- side of class. The chapter teams entered the Land judg- ing Contest and Parlia- mentary Procedure, returning home with the bronze. Motto: Learning to Do. Doing to Learn. Earning to Live. Living to Serve. Younger members, playing unfamiliar brass and percussion instru- ments, gradually became more profi- cient as parades and practices went by. The older, more experienced mem- bers, as always, were the solid core of the group. Marching to the tunes of Heaven Knows and Tuxedo junction, the band attended many parades. They espe- cially enjoyed the one at Cedar Point and the costume parades at Deshler and Defiance. Not to be forgot- ten, however, are the majorettes and pom pom girls. Without them, the band would not have been the same. Mr. Stephen Pow- ell commented on the group. We have many fine senior members to thank for their participa- tion and strength. Happily, we still have many good musi- cians developing their talent and skill to replace those who graduate. Annette Verhoff did an excel- lent job as head majorette, and we will be hard pressed to find an equal to take her place. It was a fine summer and shows promise of more marching sea- sons Jike it to come. 55 Concert Band Row 1: Sherri Meyer, Lori Balbaugh, Ann Barlage, Kathy Wank, Maryann Klear, Chris Schnipke, Karen Klear, Annette Verhoff, Sharon Kern. Student Council The Student Council spent a very busy year in '79-'80. Along with their annual activities, they sponsored several new ones. They started off the year with a Field Day and Freshman Mixer, (pp. 80-81). With the proceeds they were able to purchase a mat for the entrance way, which they had been saving money for 3 years. In November the council organized a Student Turkey Con- test. The profits from this were used to show the movie. Love at First Bite, to the high school. For Christmas, they sponsored a secret pal candy cane sale. In February, they organized a FHome- coming Dance and ballgame, (pp. 84- 85). Also that month they reunited the 1950 State champi- onship basketball team for their 30 year reunion by honoring them at a basketball game. An Easter basket raffle highlighted the Easter season for the high school and junior high. Two members attended the OASC state convention in April. In May, they organized class offi- cer elections for the coming school year. They also ran cheer- leader tryouts. It is evident that the Student Council, under the leadership of President Annette Verhoff, had an out- standing year. 62 Cot a show for us, Phil? Fundraising activi- ties included a coat check at bas- ketball games, a ham raffle, a bas- ketball game ball raffle, candy sales, and door-to-door sales of pizza, cheese, summer sausage, and por- celain bells. With the money raised, they sponsored the Second Annual Scholastic Awards Banquet (page 98). The National Honor Society also hosted a Bluffton College band pro- gram. Many of them we would rather for- get! Pictures posed a big problem for us. Some pictures were blurry, like the ones of Shari and Betty on this page. Ending the school year with pages yet to lay out kept several of us out of mischief for the first two weeks of summer. But somehow we managed. Thanks to every- one who helped with the book and sold ads. Also thanks to Miss Ruen, who kept her cool through- out the year. I E S 79 The Annual Field Day competition was held on Friday, Sept. 21st. The Student Council provided for many games, but for Mr. Slagel it was not enough. He impro- vised his own game of the Incredible Slagel vs. Vennekotter. The obstacle course proved equally difficult for both girls and guys. The creased pig con- test featured two pigs who did not move, while the cherry-in- the-pie game left many still wondering the actual location of the elusive fruit. Together after dress rehearsal. Backstage on opening night The Seniors proved they were characters in the production of TAKE YOUR MEDICINE on October 19. The com- edy centers on Bill Jack- son (Dan), Doctor of Philosophy and Angela (Sharon), his fiance. Angela's uncle (Phil) mistakes Bill for a med- ical doctor and prom- ises the couple $50,000 the first time Bill saves a life. As the play prog- resses Bill is called upon to handle several emergencies including appendicitis. Keeping the audi- ence in stitches throughout the play were the other cast members. Jonathan Puckett (Pat) had a very merry time as Mr. Dod- son's roommate, until he ate too much raisin pie and was visited by his sister Codelia (Deb). Head Nurse Miss Holt (Connie) supervised Nurses Dot- tie (Annette) and Lottie (Jean) and sternly lec- tured Patricia Pryor (Kim) on her position in the hospital. Dodie Blake (Sherri), an inept student nurse, shall be forever remembered with a thermometer in her hand. Jack (Don), the orderly executed his job well, except when he mixed up the tray of Turtle Dove (Lisa), another patient. The hospital was visited by two old maids (Mar- tha and Diane) who had trouble finding the bathroom, and a mother (Sherry) and her little girl (Fran). The play was resolved by the demented patient Hoofendyke (Jerry). Bill stopped Hoofendyke from attacking Mr. Dodson, and by doing so saved his life. The cast enjoyed producing the play, even the 6:30 a.m. prac- tices. They are espe- cially thankful to Mrs. lantha Berlage, the director and everyone else who helped with running off programs and selling tickets. 93 jesus ................
