In Memoriam It is with great honor and reverence that we, the Senior Class of 54 dedi- cate our Annual to the memory of Reverend Herman B. Lammers, esteemed and well-loved pastor of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Miller City, Ohio. How- ever, Father believed most emphatically in the progress of his parishion- ers and in all things whicl would be for the betterment and advancement of the community. Furthermore, he was deeply interested in the school, teachers, and the progress of the children and their studies. With his genial disposi- tion Father also was an ardent advocator of sports, namely basketball, bowling, and golf. Although he was a constant sufferer for the past twenty years, yet he bore it without a murmur of complaint. Moreover, he was recognized for his sincerity of purpose and gained the confidence of citizens in all walks of life. Then on March 16, 1954, God, knowing that Fa- ther had completed his mission here on earth, saw fit to summon this good man to Him. Although Father died a sudden death, it was one which he always had prayed and wished for. Furthermore, being a friends as well as spiritual advisor of our parish, he left a host of warm personal friends throughout this section of the state where he spent his entire life. Since he was always doing numerous favors for everyone while on earth, I'm sure that he will continue to do likewise for us now since he has departed from his earthly life to the next. Father was born near New Cleveland on June 16, 1895, and was also reared in this community. He attended school in New Cleveland and Glandorf before entering St. John's College in Toledo. During World War I he served in the United States Navy. After his discharge he decided to enter St. Vincent Seminary in Latrobe, Pennsylvania to study for the noble vocation, the priesthood. After years of hard study and endured trials, he was ordained on June 14, 1924, by Cardinal Samuel Stritch, then Bishop of Toledo. Wherever Father went he was well liked and held in high esteem. After serving brief periods as assistant pastor of parishes in Tiffin and Napoleon, Father Lammers was named assistant priest at St. John's, Delphos, Ohio, where he remained for more than eleven years. Then on December 16, 1937 he took over the tasks and duties as pastor of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Here he remained till his death. Throughout his priesthood Father was respected with much honor and in the years to come he shall be remembered highly.
