These same special gifts have been appreciated by the Class of 84 as he has sponsored us and guided us through our four years of high school, in appreciation, we dedicate this annual to him. Though we wish him well in retirement, we know he will be missed. 3 KENDALL TRUCKING COMBINING Mike Frank 225-7924 225-7069 EWERS GARAGE 18 East Fourth Street Milledgeville 225-7151 SOHIGRO SERVICE CO. I 29 30 1 1 i i Does this really took like Barb? The 1983 - 84 Varsity Volleyball team had a great season. They ended with a conference record of 11-1, and an over- all record of 13-3, putting them in first place. They won Regionals and advanced to Sectionals. Unfortunately, they lost to Galena, ending the sectionals with an overall 15-4 record. Congratulations team! Nine seniors and five ju- niors participated. Coach Jody Martz Coach of the Year ■ Parents Night It looked this big! The bench should be hot by now. Flying through the air with the VARSITY FOOTBALL 1. Good Buddies, huh Pete? 2. Who's got the ball? 3. What are you waiting for guys, jump on them!! 4. Everybody talks, but is anybody listening? 5 Look at that smile, is he faking his ouchie? 6 Hog Pile!!! 7 Are you gonna get him or just run after him ? In the blistering 100 weather of August, the 1983 Missiles set out to Return to the Top of the North- west 8 Conference. A shaky start led to a great im- provement and finally to a crushing loss to a fired up and determined rival from Mt. Carroll. All of us, how- ever, should remember the words of Ralph Waldo Em- erson; What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us. Within these young men are a great deal of determina- tion, character, and pride. All possess qualities to reach the top in a much bigger game.” As we say farewell to Mark, Peter, Gregg, Daryl, Mar- cel, Larry, Gary, Tim, Neil, Joel, and Dave; let’s not fail to thank them for four years of exciting football at MCHS. Hopefully they too will take with them fond memories of their careers. We wish each of them con- tinued success and happiness. Our hearts to with them, and our doors are always open to them! Sincerely, Coach Hartje ALL TfU AlfiftT MOVASi HAMfi’AM Hl£fl B ©GSBTP03 Q)Q The Lady Missiles had another good season. Along with the Fresh-Soph, the Varsity was also Conference Co-Champs. The girls had an up and down season due to the long lay-offs between some of the games. The girls worked very hard throughout the season, and this really paid off because we won a lot of pressure ballgames that we had to win. The Varsity girls ended their season with a 7-1 Conference record and a 13-6 record over-a!I. 35 Nineteen eighty four marked and Olympic year, and in tune with this event, the theme for the Missile’s season was ‘Go For the Gold . Despite getting off to a 1-4 start, the varsity Missiles went on to post a 10-2 Northwest 8 Conference record and a 17-10 record overall. The Missiles quest for gold led to some very shining accomplishments. At the Forreston Holiday Tournament the Missiles captured the Consolation Championship. With a 10-2 record the Missiles also laid claim to an undisputed Northwest 8 Conference Crown. In doing so they twice beat pre-season favorite and highly ranked Ashton, a team that would win 20 games for the year. The varsity clinched the crown with an outstanding performance versus Mt. Carroll on Parents’ Night in front of a packed house. Despite a disappointing season ending with a loss in the regional to Chadwick, the Missiles still posted the best record and most wins by a Milledgeville boys Basketball team since 1975-76. The Missiles accomplished these golden” achievements without relying on one superior player, but on the team effort in practices and games. The Missiles of '83-84 will always remember these special events, but it is also hoped that they will remember the lessons learned by competition that will help them later in the game of life. Individual Awards were given to: GREGG DEVRIES: Honorary Captain. Gregg was selected as second team All-Conference in the Northwest 8 Conference. He was named as an All-Area second team member from the Daily Gazette. And Gregg was named as Honorable Mention to the Rockford Register Star All-Area team. NEIL PETTENGER: Top Rebounder Award. Neil was named as first team in the Northwest 8 All- Conference selection. He was named Honorable Mention to the Rockford Register Star All-Area team. TRENT DRUCE: Free Throw Award, and the Lyle Nesemeier Award for the Most Valuable Player. Trent was selected as Honorable Mention All-Area to the Daily Gazette. MARK BERGSTROM: Bingo Man Award. RICK KLECKLER: Allen Woodin Memorial Award. 37 The 1983-84 Fresh-Soph Volleyball team end- ed the year with 10 wins and 6 losses. The team consisted of 16 Freshman and 12 Sophomores. The team was coached by Mr. Malsom and Mr. Hendrix. The Fresh-Soph Girls Basketball Team had a very good season in the 1983-1984 year. They ended the season as co-champs, sharing the title with Pearl City. 6 Sophomores and 7 Freshman made up the Lady Missile team. The finishing record was 9-5 over-all and a conference record of 7-1. Congratulations girls. 40 The Missiles Fresh-Soph Boys Basketball team this year was coached by Mike Hendrix. The team consisted of seven sophomores and eight freshman. The boys beat Mt. Carroll twice, and improved greatly as the year progressed. They also won the consolation title at the Thomson tournament. The boys ended the 1983-84 season with a conference record of 4-8, and the over-all record was 8-12. 41 CHARIOT The 1983-84 Girls Track season was a very successful one. Once again the girls team won the majority of their dual and triangular meets. Although the number of girls was small, each girl participated to the fullest extent enabling the entire team to do well. Coach Dittmar was pleased that all the girls were able to improve their individual best marks. The 1983-84 Boys Track seasons showed both team and individual im- provement. The future for the boys' teams looks great since so many under- classmen have become involved. Coach Hendrix is anticipating much success for both the teams and their individual members.
