BE TRUE TO YOUR SCHOOL MILLWHEEL M1LLEDGEVILLE HIGH SCHOOL MILLEDGEVILLEILLINOIS NJ THE 1982-83 ANNUAL IS . . . Mr. Tom Wiltshire served 30V.2 years at Milledgeville High School as a History teacher. He was well known and well liked by everyone who knew him. We will always remember Mr. Wilt- shire as a unique man! IN DEDICATION TO MR. TOM WILTSHIRE Farewell to days and pleasant ways Of happy auld lang syne; To friends so true and good times, too. That were so fair and fine! The years roll on. Old times are gone; Supplanted by the new. And when I see the change, ah me, It makes me feel quite blue! And yet'tis true the friends we knew; So dear to you and me; Though far away; shall live for aye In golden memory! ’Tis sweet to know, as on we 90, This truth, which is divine; We’ll ne’er forget the friends we’ve met In days of auld lang syne! — The Optimist AND IN MEMORY OF TODD MUNZ 3 L-R: D. Kirsten says, “I like my stay here and the friendly people. The food I like most is pizza, tacos, and ice cream cones, I like track, and I think that school here is easy. ” Teresa Maciejczyk went to Japan. Teresa has trav- eled before, and she enjoyed it so much that she decided to take another long journey, as a foreign exchange student. We have word that Teresa enjoys staying in Japan, and has a lot of fun. Her father said recently that “she doesn ’t even want to come home! All the way from Uberlandia, Minas Gerais in Brazil, is Chris Guimaraes. Chris says that she “likes the friendly hospitality of the people here. ” She has enjoyed living here, participating in sports, and likes all the food! One facet that Chris finds interesting is the snow!! Trina Bauling went to Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais which is in Brazil. There she is going to school, traveling a lot, and enjoying her stay with friends. 6 Steve Adee Brenda Anderson Kerri Balvanz Joel Barthel Kevin Beitler Kim Biller H M A N Tina Boesch Todd Brubaker Mary Ann Buser Rob Byvick Kristy Dittmar Rick Dyson Mark Eastabrooks Tuesdai Eastabrooks Julie Ensinger Tracy Fearing Karin Flynn Cherrie Folkers Kristy Fossett Anne Frederick Scott Frederick Gayle Gaumer Mike Geary Pam Gerdes Karl Grauman Mike Hackbarth Beth Harvey Brian Horner Jason Hull Steve Johnson Gary Judd Dave Korf Jerry Lancaster Joe Leddy Jerry Litwiller Tim Litwiller Leah Mailand Lonny Merlak Terri Mock Dawn Pierceson Dale Phillips Lynn Pitts Eric Shafer Rich Short Denise Snider Mary Tate 8 we i’iMarsr G W - u • •• 1. The 1982-83 Varsity Volleyball team ended their season with a conference record of 7-5, and an overall season record of 8-9. The girls finished in third place in the conference. The team consisted of eight seniors and fourteen juniors. The volleyball coach this year was Lori Border. There we all are. Diana and Kathy blocking. 41 “Football has become the symbol of our country's best qualities courage, stamina, coordinat- ed efficiency. Many believe in these days of doubt and indeci- sion that through this sport we can best keep alive the spirit of reality and enterprise which has made us great. Upon the fields of friendly strife are sown the seeds that, upon other fields, on other days, will bear the fruits of victo- ry General Douglas Mac Arthur Forgetting a somewhat poor start, the 1982-83 MISSILES rolled up their sleeves and finished with a substandard, but far from dismal 6-3 record. Our hats go off to seniors Keith, Todd E., Randy, Dave, Todd L., lain, John, Bruce, and Darren who s unity and pride allowed us the leadership necessary to finish our season playing football as well as anyone in the area. Remember that success and happiness are not destinations, they are exciting never ending journeys! If you are made of the right “stuff”, a hard fall will always result in a very high bounce. As you leave MHS please take with you fond memo- ries and our appreciation for your cooperation and fine atti- tudes. Our doors are always open to you! Coach Hartje 43 CAN’T HOLD YOU BACK! 44 This year’s Lady Missiles really made some progress. They won the North- west 8 Conference with a 7-1 record and posted an impressive 14-5 record over-all. The three seniors and seven juniors all contributed, with every girl playing in almost every game. Of the five losses, only one was in conference and all were hard-fought. Coach Nese- meier has really turned the Lady Mis- sile Basketball program, winning the first Girls Conference Championship ever in his second year of coaching. An upset loss to Lanark in the regional ended the season for the Lady Mis- siles, but they were quite proud of what they had accomplished this year. 1. Warming up before the game 2. Paula being aggressive. 3. Who's going to get it? 4. Kathy shooting a freethrow 5. Everyone is watching the game 6. Barb winning the jump. 7. Hustling up the court 8. Teresa Flynn, senior stats 1. Mt. Carroll trying to score. 2. Where did the ball go? 3. Two points more! 4. Parent’s night. 5. Battle of the heights. 6. Paula Geerts grabbing an awesome re- bound. 7. Working out the strategy. 8. Will it go through? 9. Warming up at half- time. 'We would like to thank Sauk Val- ley Sun for picture No. 5. 45 “Catch That Missile Spirit” was the motto for the 1982-83 season, but unfortunately, for this year's varsity team they could never get a firm grip on this elusive spirit. A frustrated Missile team finished 7-19 overall, and 5 7 in the Northwest 8 Conference. It was a season filled with many battling comebacks with all too many of them falling short. Two outstanding success- ful comebacks came versus a fine Ashton Aces team. The first was at home when the Missiles recovered from an 11 point deficit to win 56-52. The second time the Missiles found themselves down 19-4, before they awoke and start- ed fighting back. Finally, with two seconds to go senior Keith Anderson, hit two pressure free throws to put the game into overtime, where the Missiles won 74-72. It Is hoped that our graduating seniors, toughen by these tests, will go on to achieve higher goals While the returning juniors coupled with the Class of 85. will have regroup and be ready to put forth the “Olympic-Like ” effort needed to ”Go For The Gold” in 1983-84. Individual awards were given to: KEITH ANDERSON Bingo Man Award. Top Free Throw Award, and The Lyle Nesemeier Award for the Most Valuable PLayer. Keith was unanimously selected by the Northwest 8 Conference. He was selected 1st team All-Area by the Daily Gazette. Spe- cial Mention All-Area by Freeport Journal-Standard, and the Rockford Register Star DA VID LIVENGOOD: Honor ary Captain. MARK BERGSTROM: Top Rebounder Award. GREGG DEVRIES: The Allen Woodin Memorial Award. 47 Football; Basketball; Track Volleyball; Track; Cheerleading Volleyball Volleyball Football; Basketball Football Volleyball; Track Basketball Football; Basketball; Track Basketball Volleyball; Track 48 Pom-Pon Volley; Pom-Pon Pom-Pon Cheerleading mm ) i Football Track Football: Track ) Volleyball; Cheerleading Basketball Football Volleyball Volleyball; Track Football Track Football Track The 1982-83 Fresh-Soph Volleyball team ended their sea- son with a conference of 12-0. The girls were undefeated, winning first in the conference. The team consisted of eight sophomores and nine freshmen. The volleyball coach this year was Jodi Martz. 50 111M -JmI I ImII v|| The fresh-soph boys football team fin- ished their 1982 season with a record of 9-0. The team consisted of 37 mebers of which 22 were freshmen and 15 were sophomores. The team was again coached by Rick Malson and assisted by John Nesemeier. 3 The Fresh-Soph Girls Basketball Team had an excel- lent season in the 82-83 year. The team was made up of 8 sophomores and 7 freshmen. They won the conference title undefeated, and finished the season with a 17-5 record. All of these girls were very proud of their accomplishments! 52 The 82-83 squad, made up of 9 Soph, and 6 Fr., finished the season with a 17-5 record and were undefeated in confer- ence play. Success depends on many factors and the depth and talent of this team are two such factors. Five players scored over 150 points and rebounding was also a key strong point. Unlike many teams, they showed pa- tience on offense which allowed them to develop a strong inside game and at the same time were aggressive on defense without fouling. With success comes pride and this group of athletes can be very proud of the way in which they represented the school and themselves. CONGRATULATIONS on a GREAT SEASON! 53 Bottom Row: L to R.
