Soon for us will our school days be ended And dreams of youth that fade so fast, For We know that our hearts often ponder On memories of scenes that are pastg There are joys that will long be remembered And friendships too that ne'e.r can die. So here's a cheer for our old school For our old high school, our dear old high. Here's to our classes, here's to our lasses, Here's to the lads they adore. Here's to the Seniors so mighty, Juniors so flighty, Freshies and Sophomores. Let mirth and gladness Banish all sadness, and as the days go by, You'll find us ready and steady- Boosting for Millcreek High. 4 The Foreword We, the Kaldron Staff of 1947, in editing this twenty-first edition, have endeavored to present the highlights of our senior year on our road to graduation. We have attempted to create a permanent record which will recall to memory the many pleasures we have enjoyed in this fleeting year of fellowship. We have tried to edit our yearbook with all the modern thoughts and ideas suggested in our theme . . . The Modern World . The World of Tomorrow: the peaceful world, given to us, the statesmen and businessmen of the future. 5 The Class of 1947 Dedicates this 21st edition of the Kcildron to Mr. Johnson CYRIL JOHNSON We are proud of his work about the school, which is evident in the careful and effective training he has given so many interested in shop mechanics. His untiring efforts and friendly help- fulness have made him a respected friend of the entire school. 6 , F Fl C U L. This year the Seventh Grade consisted of 154 students. This new addition to Millcreek has really shown its school spirit, and the cheerleaders won't forget how much they contributed to the cheering section at our football and basketball games. The seventh graders quickly adapted themselves to school life, and before we knew it they were able to find their way around the school as well as, if not better than, the Seniors. They turned out for practically all of the social activities during the year, and Millcreek is proud that she has such up and coming students. The Girl Reserves is an efficient organization providing a great many activities which all the members can enjoy. The members of the Girl Reserves are Connected with the YWCA and participate in many Y sponsored activities. The girls are also active in school life, sponsoring dances, parties, and other social events. Probably the most anxiously anticipated event of the year is the. Tri-Hi Dance, sponsored by Girl Reserve groups from several high schools. As a result of hours of careful planning and execu- tion, the Tri-Hi is one of the most successful and colorful dances of the season. The Millcreek Girl Reserves are led by an excellent group of officers and two very helpful faculty advisors. The organization is constantly growing larger, as is evident in the above pictures, and is continually engaged in worthwhile projects for the betterment of the school and of their own organization. 51 HUB STAFF The student body of Millcreek is really proud of its school paper this term for much has been done to improve this bi-weekly edition. The Girls, Athletic Club is in its fifth year and the membership is increasing by leaps and bounds due to their Well organized activities. In the ranks are 9th, 10th, llth, and 12th grade girls all of whom are interested in athletics. Basketball and volleyball are only two of the many activities made possible by the G.A.C. Probably the prime pur- pose of the organization is to offer to girls the opportunity for earning a high school letter as the boys do in basketball and football. Each girl is given a definite number of points for each event in which she participates, the total number of points determines whether or not the girl will receive that long sought-after UM . The organization is lead by a very efficient group of officers and an equally hard-working faculty advisor, Mrs. Samuelson. 57 K 1 9 I Z E W w SENIOR CLASS PLAY The Senior Class presented its annual play entitled Another Spring , on November 21, 1946. The play, a marvelous success, was a three act romantic drama written by Priscilla Wayne and Wayne Sprague. The play opened with a prologue scene taking place at the time of the American Revolution, and was concerned with the lives of Nancy Carlisle, David Lee, Benjamin Lee, and Mrs. Carlisle. David Lee had been seriously wounded in the Revolutionary War and he died in Nancy's arms leaving her with a bisected ring as a token of his love. The remaining three acts took place at the present time, with the descendants of David Lee and Nancy Carlisle unexpectedly meeting at Carlisle Inn and being carried through the rapidly moving scenes to the discovery that the modern Nancy and David held the split ring, ending in their joint happiness. The new team fared well against several superior teams, such as Titusville, Corry and Harborcreek. The Trojans invaded Titusville for the first game, a decided underdog, but a stubborn defense rocked the Rockets more than once. This game ended in a scoreless tie. The next game was somewhat better and the Trojans topped the Yellow Jackets of 'Girard 6-0. The next game was at Mercer, where the Trojans suffered their first defeat. The second home game found Millcreek on the short end of a 13-6 score by an invading team from Northeast. The Trojans were not to be denied when a team of Huskies from Harborcreek were beaten. This time the Trojans took a 19-0 nod over the Huskies. The Corry Beavers were next in line to feel the effect of the stubborn Trojan's forward wall. The highly touted Beavers were spanked to the tune of 13-0. The last game was against a fighting and high spirited Lawrence Park team. The Team owes its success to the excellent coaching of Gus Anderson and John Kola. John Kola started his first year of coaching at Millcreek and did a fine job. Gus Anderson repeated his fine coach- ing ability to build an entire new team. Millcreek's team will not be as green next year and should go places. Millcreek M-- Titusville -..L A, 0 Millcreek ..,. BASKETBALL - 1946-47 The Millcreek 'Trojans showed up in all their glory again this season. They won the County Class A Championship and met every expectation of their loyal followers. Although they were some- what handicapped by the absence of their regular coach, Gus Anderson, they were successfully coached by John Kola, a newcomer to Millcreek. The Millcreek Cagers met East in the play-off tournament, and although they were unsuccessful, they played a great game, long to be remembered. The fast moving Millcreek quintet, controlling the bankboards and passing smoothly throughout the majority of their contests, always kept their frenzied fans on the edge of their seats. The band has come a tremendous way this past year, from a group of new and inexperienced players, to a smoothly oper- ating marching and playing band. The band made its debut at the Dedication Ceremony and played for many following games, both at home and away. The band is under the leadership of Mrs. Byers and Drum Major, Don Bedo.
