We would like to thank you for keeping our school clean. Raymond Godbout Jack Poisant Henry Kniskern Lucien Richard Gilbert Picard Donald Stockwell 12 sispissusuosseniieeDp ee si As many of you know, we have five faculty members that are retiring as of the last day of school. These teachers are as follows Mrs. Margaret Mathews, Mr. Donald Drake, Mrs. Agnes McCarron, Mr. James Conlee and Mr. Albert Sack. In honor of the five faculty members that have had a long term in the field of education, there was a retire- ment party on the evening of June l2th which was held at Assumption College. We'd like to thank these five faculty members for all of their years of dedication. Each one of them has contrib- uted a part of themselves to this school, and they will always be remembered. Their life and lifestyles will probably change drastically but they all deserve this special time in their lives when they can reflect on all of their accomplishments, and we all know there are many of those. BEST WISHES!!! 13 In memory of r. Donald O’Leary 1985 5 1933 - November 27 April 10, 14 Mr. Genese we the class of 1986 would like to say “Thank You” for everything you've done for us. Not only were you our Class Advisor and Year Book Advisor, but you were also our friend. You always let us know that you cared about us as individuals and if we ever needed you that you were there. Your guidance throughtout our four years at Millbury High helped us grow from quiet, shy freshman into fine, dominating Seniors and young adults ready to face the world. You gave us the confidence we needed, when we needed it so desperately-freshman year when it was time for our very first Winter Carnival. You showed pride in us even though we didn’t win, and told us to look forward to Sophomore year. Sophomore year we gave the other classes a run for their money. We placed third. Junior year we finally made you proud. We tied first place with the seniors, quite a big deal because these seniors won Winter Carnival three years in a row. Finally, it was our Senior year, the year we all had waited for. You lectured us and told us it was our turn to show our Leadership, Confidence and Skillfulness. And yes, we did and we won, and we owe alot to you. Another big day you shared with us was our Junior Prom. You helped us plan this evening which just about every junior looks forward to. Not only did you help plan and decorate, but you shared the evening with us. y There are too many times to mention right now how much you have helped us, and we will not forget all that you have done for us. From the Class of 1986 ‘Thank You” for sharing a part of yourself with us. In Memoriam Lisa A. Bird “Once upon a time there was light in my life now there’s only love in the dark... ” We sit back and look over all the years that We have been together ... ... it doesn’t seem so long... Dear members of the Class of 1986 It is with deeply felt and richly varied emotions that | write this letter to you. We have been together for four long and intense years. During this time we have shared many feelings and experiences. We have learned together in these years. You have studied academic subjects of course, yet you have learned about yourselves as well. Because of this, you can stand proudly; you did endure; you finished what you set out to do; you stayed the course. Keeping the courage to endure and go on is what | would like to focus on a bit in this letter. For some of you, these years were relatively easy, and for others, they were difficult and trying. If you won or lost, failed or succeeded, laughed or cried, | would have you recall that always life did go on. The world revolved and rotated; the sun found its way into the skies on cloudly days as well as on days when no clouds obscured it. Winter followed autumn and spring came soon after. There is wisdom in the strength and constancy of the universe that can teach us how to live. Your high school successes may have been based on a dream or hope your parents had for you. Most parents have hopes for their children. But there is the dream, hope, and desire you have. You have seen it in your minds eye and felt it in your heart of hearts. This is the one that needs strength and endurance to be reached. You will be on your own in the pursuit of this dream. You will be confronted with obstacles which will seem insurmountable when they first appear. Keep reaching. You are not alone when you are on your own. Perhaps my saying that you should appeal to your faith in your Creator and yourselves for this strength seems too fundamental. | personally believe it is truly the only means by which we can realistically succeed in this world. It is important to remember that if the task is difficult, if the circumstances are trying, or if suffering exists, you are capable of seeing beyond these to the hope and dream ahead. Ironically, sometimes it is the good times of life that can keep us from our original goal of happines and self-fulfillment. You should softly temper yourself to deal with all of life—the very low points must be gotten through with strength, and the very high points must not obscure your vision. Keep a steady heart and mind in times of hardship as well as in your periods of joy and well-being. Whatever your dream is, the road to it lies in being the best person you can be. Finding that best person brings happiness to you and to others. Finally, remember that all of you have gifts and talents which only wait for you to use them. With these you can find the purpose for which you were created. All that comes to you in life—good or bad will be what you can handle or it would not be given to you. May you have a Good Fortune, and may God Bless you all. Like every year the students met with their counterparts and leared what was expected of them, so when it came time for them to take over they knew exactly what there jobs were. When the day arrived the students all admired each others professional appearance. The students met with their counterparts once again and spent the morning going to meetings or whatever their responsibility were for the day. At lunch time everyone met at the Asia Waters Mansion for a buffet arranged by Happy’s. Soon after, Certificates were given to all the members who participated in the days events. It was a wonderful learning experience for all who p articipated. DONKEY BASKETBALL Donkey Basketball was a fund raiser put on by The Student Council. The teams consisted of students and teachers, both unaware of what they were in for. It was a comical evening to watch some of the players sit in the same spot unable to move their donkeys. The Jackaces led by Mr. Genese won, but they had a good fight from the Tailtwisters. All and all it was a fun evening and no one was seriously hurt, well except maybe their pride. 65 JOSEPH AND THE A MAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” is a simple story of innocence, jealousy, faith, hope and love. The story of Joseph is a perrenial reminder that dreams do come true. It also reminds us that faith, hope, and the greatest gift of all—love, can and will make the difference in the pursuit of our dreams. On March lst and 22nd, the Drama Club presented this year’s production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” The musical directed by Mr. Genese was a huge success. The cast received standing ovations both nights. The lead roles were played by sophomore, Jason Gemme, and Senior Michelle Diguette. Supporting roles included April Fristensky, Dean Giovanucci, Joseph Sullivan, Virginia Sprague, Tina Campanali, Melissa Phelan, Nicole Pappas, Cindy Berthiaume, Heather Bourassa, Laura Dawson, Kim Rice, Melissa Haglund, and Annette White. JUNIOR PROM The Junior Prom was held on Friday, May 9th at the Holy Cross Hogan Center. It was a fun and delightful evening for all those who attended. The most exciting part of the evening was when it was time to chose the Prom Queen and her Court. Jennifer Pearson was chosen to be the Queen and her court consisted of Kathy- Jo Bruno, Lori Dion, Gina Galardi, Karen Stead, Nancy Tarkanian and Annette White. Everyone looked Nice and had a great time. SPECIAL EVENTS STUDENT LIFE = OUR JUNIOR PROM Our Junior Prom was held on Friday, May l6th at the Holy Cross Hogan Center. There was a nice buffet and everyone went around mingling and admiring their friends and classmates. Soon after the excitement built when it was announced that it was time to pick the Queen, and her Court. All the couples paraded throughout the room hoping that they would be chosen. Stacey McKenzie was chosen Queen and her court consisted of Laurie Fontaine, Jodi Walkeneon, Gail Scholtz, Kelly Tuttle, Janet Nelson, and Christomome Christine Luikey. After the crowning ceremony was over everyone danced to the sounds of Nightshift. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY INDUCTION During the 1985-86 year the National Hon- or Society once again kept busy. Mem- bers; Lynne Andresano, Kathy Jo Bruno, Michelle Diguette, Robert Forte, Lisa Gagne, Elaine Golinski, Lisa lacone, Chris- tine Luikey, Daniel Najemy, Lynn Picard, Virginia Sprague, Karin Stead, Brett Taft, Audra Tella and James Tuttle sponsored services for needy and two blood drives and Selling carnations to the classes for Valentines Day. On Friday April Il, the NHS inducted five members. Bonnie Crabbe, Karen Dion, Lori Gardner, David Kelly and John Walkonen. The Chorus sang “You'll never walk alone’”’. Closing words were said and the night ended making it a pleasurable evening. Rising for this Annual occassion the seniors paraded around old M.H.S. in their costumes. Trying to not only disguise themselves but also to raise money for their class treasury. Everyone had fun and many laughs could be heard down the corridors. The night before halloween the class of ’86 held its annual kids halloween party. Much to our surprise almost I50 children showed up. The evening was filled with games, a haunted house (filled with seniors in their scary outfits) and goodies. The children and Seniors had a fun night that won’t soon be forgotten. SENIOR DRESS UP DAY 78 WINTER CARNIVAL ANE tila Ries seb ik Mite Winter Carnival is a week filled with excite- ment and spirit. It is competition between all four classes. This year was the first year for the eighth graders to participate, they were divided up into two teams, the maroon team and the white team. Even though they didn’t compete with the upper classmen they got their first taste of Winter Carnival, and they'll know what to expect next year. This year’s basis for Winter Carnival was “Winter Around the World” which meant that each class could pick their own theme. The Seniors picked Hawaii, making our theme “Lets Have A luau’’. There was strong competition between all four classes for all of the events. All the classes did a great job with displaying their posters, murals, skits and song. When it came time for announcing the win- ners of Winter Carnival everyone was excit- ed. In fourth place-freshman, third place- sophomores, second place- juniors and in first place seniors. Winning winter carnival for the second and last time, our class cherished the week and will never forget the fun and excitement. 719 CHERISH Lets take a look together on the times we’ve had the memories we've all shared well cherish every moment that we will remember the years have past us by Well look back upon the fun we’ve had down the road and we will remember Millbury High as we go on towards our goals CHORUS: Cherish the friends we’ve made we should cherish the times we’ve shared cherish the friends cherish the times cherish the years Our lives will soon be changing nothing stays the same our time is coming to an end The four years that we’ve spend here went by so fast well never forget Millbury High Well look back upon the friends we’ve made down the road and we will remember Millbury High as we go on towards our goals enior Semi Formal The Senior Semi Formal was held on Friday, March I4, 1986 in the High School gym. The gym was decorated beautifully to set the mood for a wonderful evening. There was a buffet dinner followed by dancing to the choice of the disc jockey. The night concluded around midnight with an enjoyable evening for all those who attended. Class Trip i ee On Thursday, May 22, the class of ’86 packed up and headed for the Frank Davis Resort in Connecticut. The day was full with many activities and competitions. The boys from Norton challenged the Millbury girls to a softball game. The boys would run backwards to make it “fair”. Patti Skaw was the star of the game catching outs at third base. During the swimming competition, Maura Peterson won two swimming contests also against others schools. Just as we were getting set to go dance at the dance contest our school was ¢éalled. Much to our disappointment we had to leave. Even though the day was cloudy and overcast the class of ’86 enjoyed the day to the fullest knowing it was one of there last events together. 83 Sonn CZ Lada) Q.. QO. —_ N a O Zz. Lada! N Our senior supper was held at Marionis Park on May 23, 1986. Following a well prepared buffet dinner, the evening was filled with excitement as gifts were given to each member of our class. After the final winners of the opportunity club were choosen, we watched a slide presentation put to music provided by Mr. George Desrosiers. Everyone enjoyed dancing to the music played by the Disc Jockey to make it a memorable evening. 85 86 | : ACADEMIC AWARDS | ATHLETIC AWARDS NIGHT Na aosennae CLASS DAY Class Day on was held on Friday, May 30, 1986. All of the seniors were gathered into the auditorium. It was a fun day where the Class Will and Testament and the Class Prophecy were read. Everyone listened and laughed at themselves, their friends, and their fellow classmates. The class seemed to pull together realizing this would be the last time they would meet together as a class before their big graduation day. PROPHESY Lynne and | received a letter from Helene Ericksson a few weeks ago. She was remembering that it is the 30th anniversary since the class of 1986 graduated, and she wanted to know what had become of us in 2016. So we booked a flight with our travel agent Karen Hjort, who put us on a direct flight to Millbury International airport. From there we arranged a bus tour through the Bubbles and Gabby Bus Line, owned by Sharon Craw and Chris Gabree, of course. Our bus driver, Steven “Speedy” Gonzales was very accomodating, but we had to tip a pesty tour guide, Jennifer Babbidge, $20 to leave us alone. Speedy dropped us off in front of the Millbury ‘‘rent-a-Gremlin’”” owned by Eddie White. There, we rented a beautiful orange gremlin dirt cheap. We drove to Millbury High School where there had been a slight change in administration. Superintendent, Dr. Paula Ciuffredo was sitting behind her desk in a meeting with principal Ms. Lynn M. Cofsky and Vice Principal Ms. Jill A. Eckland. Taking minutes and serving coffee were secretaries Debbie Witowski and Missy Pierce. They did, however, take time to point out several High School teachers who had graduated in the class of 1986. First, we passed the class room of Robert Forte who was reprimanding a student in his best terminator voice. He said, and | quote, “Little Man, Sit Down!” Wendy Henschel had taken over as Physical Education Instructor. We found Sandra Imbody head of the foreign language department and teaching an elite group of students how to speak jive. We also found John Boudreau school psychologist who started a drug rehabilation program for students. In walked Debbie Grahn, the schools human replacement for the P.A. System and announced there would be no more summer vacations. Lastly we found Michele Diguette complete with Ph.D. teaching 7th period physics in the catacombs of rm. 28. She had taken over for Mr. William Rosen who had left teaching to open his very own fitness club, called Wild Bill’s Flex-It. We decided to take a trip to this club. There checking out the equipment was manager Chris Luikey, who works side-by-side with Mr. Rosen to make sure things are in working order. Working out on the equipment was Maura Peterson who is now a professional body builder and promoter of her new VCR tape called Maura’s Workout. Accountant for the club was math wiz Michelle Ruby who kept the finances in the black. Mr. Rosen’s two instructors are Brian Dow and Jim Bennes, and each boasts of their centerfolds in recent Playgirl issues. We went into the sauna were where we found Beth Whittier and Debbie Vassar sipping Tequila Sunrises. There Debbie was bragging to Beth about her rich husband who has bought her a $3 million home in Hawaii and offered to fly Beth’s racecar to the Daytona 500 in his private jet. Suddenly in popped April Fristensky who, overhearing the conversation begged to be taken to Florida so she could be discovered as an actress. Beginning to get very warm, Deidre and | stepped out of Wild Bill’s Flex-It and flagged down and Ice Cream Truck. Much to our surprise, there was Kris Going selling the ice cream and Mary Ann Wood driving with one hand. We bought our ice cream and also a copy of the Millbury Sun Times hot off the press, and settled down on the spacious Millbury common to read it. We read that Denise Landry and Michelle Welcom were head photographers and chief editors of the paper. Tom Green writes a column entitled “Green's Gossip” where Tom digs out the juiciest pieces of gossip about his fellow Millbury’ites and reports it weekly. Flipping to the Television section of the Times we were amazed to see another 1986 graduate making it big. Jim Bourdeau now stars as Buckwheat in the intergalactic version of Little Rascals. Audra Tella is the honorable guest speaker at the 2016 Commencement Ceremonies at Millbury Memorial High, because she is a reputable and successful journalist for Newsweek magazine. Turning to the Society Page, we recognized 2 more of our fellow classmates. Elaine Marie (Golinski) Dupuis and husband Mark Charles Dupuis were celebrating their silver anniversary. They had since moved out of Massachusetts and into the state of .. . . Marital Bliss. On the World Today pages, we saw our own Class President Cathy Chausse as ambassador to the United nations and her spouse Guy Paquette Chausse as ruler of the world power Sri Lanka which Cathy invaded and took over for him. On the Business Pages, we discovered that Dan Rocheleau is only a random number at Digital trying to find a way out and away from his personal secretary Melissa Robbins—wherever he goes, she goes. We turned next to the Sports section, where we discovered Milissa Bubon broke her own World Record in the 2016 Boston Marathon. We also saw Phil Mossa training for the high hurdles in the 2016 Summer Olympics. Time was passing and we still had not seen all our class mates. We put the paper down, only to see Rick Burke and Tony Lomartire sweeping sidewalks in the common and spend most of their time there, and Brian Perry was busy tending the lawn with his Old Fox Lawn Care equipment. Suddenly from behind we heard wild screams. There was Wayne Nadeau with eighth graders from the class of 2021 clinging to his body, and Wayne standing in the middle of them combing his hair. A flash streaked by us and later discovered it was Michele Lagor. She now runs crazily through town, picking lint off strangers clothes and putting the clasps of their necklaces in back. We climbed back into the Gremlin and proceeded through an intersection when we were sideswiped, and we mean sideswiped, by a student of Carl J. Ward's School of Driving. MPD Sergeant Stephen Squires responded quickly slapping the cuffs on Carl and carting him away. We were taken to the hospital for minor injuries, where we met several more classmates. We met nurses Chris Stacy and Virginia Sprague, who were instructed to assist Doctor Nu Quan in a revolutionary new surgical procedure. The team was implanting a waist on Lisa Gagne and Lisa took time out from her X-Ray Technicial job to have the implant. When we were released, “Speedy” drove us to Matt Reney’s auto body shop to see what could be done to our rental lemon, | mean Gremlin. Matt first took us to find windows. We travelled to Mike Corriveau’s Catwalk Glass Repair 89 Shop and found the right windows—orange tinted. Next, Matt took us to Bill Silver's Hardware store where tools of all varieties are found. The stock girl, Gail Scholz, was in the background rearranging Silvers tools. Gail also mentioned that she travels to Hawaii often to dance at Bubba’s Let’s Have a Luau. Inquiring about other classmates, we also learned that Matt Lavallee owns Matt's school-a-hula and is official Hula instructor at Bubba’s. His partner Lori Uppstrom teaches Wipe-out at Matt’s. On Wai-ki-ki beach, Janet Nelson sells sun-in and suntan oil and Laurie Fontaine tells people when to turn over so they won't fry on one side. Steve Trottier sells rubber rafts on the beach and is a bouncer at Bubba’s by-night. Jodi Walkonen was posing for a layout in Vogue magazine with fashions by fashion concultant Ann Russell. We thanked Gail and got into our repaired Gremlin. A fter our tiresome day, we decided to relax, we went into what we thought was a restaurant for ancient Greek cuisine. Instead Gina Army’s “reptilian delights” was a message and tatoo parlor where massouses Maria Pepper and Alanna Jacobson were massaging Joe Sullivan and Pat Simmons who had just returned from swabbing the decks in the navy. Also present was Craig Lavalley’s Opus penguin preservatory. We returned to our motel, the Millbury Marriot, in the heart of the Millbury recreational complex, where Tom Courtney's martial arts studio, Steve Freitas’ raquetball club and the Gemmie Workout center owned by Paul and John Gemme. We wanted a small snack before retiring, and had a choice Karen Adams’ sidewalk pushcart full of Twinkleydung, Kevin Raymond's toast on a stick or Beneda Bernard’s Royal House of Pizza. Taking our pizza back to our room, we watched the Nightly News and saw Patty Skaw on Bob Lobell Jr.’s Sports Spotlight making a fantastic triple play from her spot at third base and World Champion marshmallow catcher George Belmore. We also saw Brian Carrigan elected as Grand Marshall of the up comming 4th of July parade. Finally we nodded off to the review of Mark White’s controversial novel, “Dool, Dool, Dool, Is Joe Mama Calin’!” Next we were startled during the night by loud obnoxious crew on a Lite beer commercial. The Millbury High School 1985-86 football team was chanting ‘Taste Great, Less Filling . .. when John Valentine, body guard for NBA commissioner Brian Parath busted through the door. Brian, with and ever-ready battery on his shoulder, threatened, “Go Ahead, make my day!” Following that commercial was a Dunkin’ donuts commercial starring Franchise owner Wayne Cluett and wife Donna Hovagimian. Donna telling Wayne “It’s time to make the donuts.”” and Wayne replying “That’s nice Ethyl.” Though it was 3:00 a.m., Lynne insisted she wanted Choc. Almond chip ice-cream and dragged me to Goretti’s 24 hr. food warehouse where | assumed we would simply go for ice-cream. Julie LaCoy was there packing meat in the back room, while Lynne raided the aisles, and Mike Kaczynski, who had since been stricken with Kleptomania, stole an entire rack of spareribs. Lisa Johnson rang up our food order and Lynne’s light snack cost $47.87. We had to pack our own food because Chris Santa Maria was in the corner with Nina and Don Murphy was with her Twin sister Pinta. The next day, feeling guilty about Carl Ward’s imprisonment, we decided to pay him a visit. We went to Karen Markey’s town Jail, where she’s warden. Not only was Carl there but many others also. Doing time was Michelle Ricard, lobbyist for the Wadsworth Administration who led cheers of “Heck, no, we won't go!’ Scott Dinsdale was also locked up for doing graffiti on the Mc Gowen Bridge. Mr. Genese was also behind bars for violating human rights by trying to make Gina Frederico his slave. Deb Noel was jailed for making violent protests as a member of Citizens Against Horse Burgers and Chris Patterson was arrested for heckling at a Millbury High Basketball game. Trying to beg forgiveness of these poor souls was sister Holly Crossman and her churchbell. We now decided to have our hair done. We went into Donna Ledoux’s shop where Steven Evanowski was having his hair sculpted by Donna. Karen Tremblay was doing Juli D’Ambra’s hair. Juli invited us to come watch her sing at Brian Kupstas’ night club KUPPY’S where happy’s use to be. We promised to go. First however, we decided to see a movie. On our way we picked up Doug Morin who had 2 tons of sound equipment to bring to the Elms Eight Screen Cimema. When we arrived, Tim Bernard was wheeling AV equipment down the aisle to show the movie. Gerri Dranginis sells Cigarettes and Michelle Godbout sells Popcorn at the concession stand. After the movie we ran into Lisa Millett who owns G+G in Millbury (and gave herself a raise), organizing a sidewalk sale to sell Michelle Pryzygoda’s new line of Ziggy Jeans. Finally at KUPPY’S that evening we found Brian Kupstas discussing who would win the World Series and the successful engineer Dan Najemy bragging about his new Chevette-20I16. Head Chef Flaine Moore and her obedient assistant Dave Krumsiek. Following dinner, served by Mary Cournoyer, we were entertained by Juli D'Ambra singing and her back-up band led by drummer Dan Herriage. Karin Hoel, who kept her clutches on Dan and his money, was bragging of her 45 rabbit fur coats. Kelly Tuttle was bartender and Mary never stopped serving food all night. We all heard Deidre Phelan arrive as she burnt yet another clutch on the lovely orange Gremlin. | was in a rush to pick up Lynne Andresano because she had an important interview in the Boston Celtic’s Locker room. All and all, the trip to Millbury proved to be very eventful, and our classmates proved to be quite intersting. So, Helene, this is what the future holds for the Class of 86. 90 GRADUATION On June |, 1986 the proud class of 1986 graduated from Millbury High School. Althou gh the ceremony was held indoors in the gymnasium, it was a beautiful, and meaningful day for all the graduates. Finally the day everyone was waiting for had arrived. The Gym was full with both students, families, and friends. There were many emotions being felt by all. It was both a happy yet very sad day in the lives of all who participated. Parents, Family, and Friends of the graduates all awaited the moment when there graduate walked upon the stage and received the diploma which they worked for four years to receive. 9I | SWeoL. Our Guest speaker Dr. Philip Viro, President of Worcester State College spoke. After Dr. Viro’s Speech Michele Diguette sang “The Greatest Love of All’. The class received their diplomas and placed the tasles to the side. As we marched out of the gym as graduates of the class of 1986 we realized we would never pass this way again, but we were all on to bigger and better things. This was just one more of lifes experiences and there were many more to come. CLASS SONG LIKE AN EAGLE Now is the time To follow the wind, To walk alone. And a star Will show the way, Above the clouds, Beyond the sea. And now is the time, Now and farewell, And as we part — You taught me well, You gave me strength, You showed the way; Tll not forget you, Like an eagle I will soar above the clouds; I will spread my wings and fly into the sun. Like an eagle I will race above the stars; I will fly to places yet unseen, Go beyond my wildest dream, Know that you are watching over me. And all alone I follow the stars above as my guide, As my guide I trust in you To show the way to me, Beyond the sea Like an eagle I will race above the ‘clouds; Like an eagle I will fly, Like an eagle I will fly, Fly, Fly the highest mountain; Fly, Fly above the clouds, Like an eagle I will fly. 93 CONGRATULATIONS FROM MILLBURY NATIONAL MEMBER FDIC I8 Main Street 865-952I Millbury, Ma. 01527 (617) 865-6119 Willburg “rave, Tue.
