As seniors, it marked the culmination of our years together here at Millbury High. The days have been filled with hard work, laughter, friendship, and growth. Each member of the class of 1984 has developed individually, yet through this perod of personal growth, we have all become progressively united. We can all recall entering Millbury High as freshmen, scared to face a new world. Now, we are all ready to face the real world, thanks to our experiences here at Millbury High. The movement to bigger and better things has occurred, but this time of our lives will always remain in our minds. We will always remember such special occasions as the Winter Carnival, S.A.D.D. Day, Breakdancing, and the Ronnie James DIO concert. Nationally, we will associate “1984” with the Olympics, the Presidential election involving Ronald Reagan and Walter Mondale, and performers Michael Jackson and Boy George. With these happy memories, we'll also remember world tragedies and suffering. Looking back, these happenings will only be a memory, yet they occurred during an important time of our lives-our Senior year, 1984. 6 Mr. Daniel Carmody Principal Dr. Alfred J. Halfway through the evening it was time to choose the prom queen and her court. Cindy Willand was selected as prom queen, and her court consisted of Kri stin Manguilli, Sharon Frazier, Donna Lawson, Lori Akley, Heather Christman, and Brenda Bergeron. There was plenty of pitching at Fitton Field yesterday. Brian Kupstas dug deep down in the ninth to save himself and the Woolies as Millbury beat Auburn in a terrific 2-1 ball game. The win gave Millbury the District E, Division 3 title in its second trip to the finals. Millbury lost in its last visit in 1978. State Semifinal Millbury plays Palmer at 3:30 p.m... You might say he’s getting bigger every day. “My father measured me the other day and I’m up to 6-foot-7 now,” said Blanchard. . Blanchard must have looked 10 feet tall to North Brookfield last night, as the senior center scored 25 points and pulled down 15 rebounds while leading the Woolies to a 64-45 victory. Millbury advances to the semifinals of the Small School Division of the 44th annual Clark University Basketball Tournament at 8 p.m. tomorrow against Tahanto Regional. Millbury, the defending champi- on, is 18-0, while Tahanto is 14-4. The Stags upset Oakmont, 58-46, last night. . In the other Small School semifinal at 6 p.m. to- morrow, Groton-Dunstable will play Blackstone- Millville. G-D edged Hopedale, 55-54, yesterday on Vin Bevacqua’s jumper with 14 seconds remaining, and Blackstone-Millville downed Uxbridge, 74-63, as John Kearnan had 17 points and nine rebounds. Uxbridge played without its leading scorer, Greg Clark, who injured an ankle Friday night against Millbury. Dan Gurney—100-yarddash, sprint relay winner vs. Grafton Bruce Hjort—javeline, mile relay winner vs. Assabet Millbury now begins its full SWCL schedule facing For a team to win 23 games in a row, things have to fall in a pretty straight, consistent line over the season. And for that same team to finally lose, that line has be become jumbled, disjointed and finally broken. Over the 1983-84 season, the Millbury High basketball team established itself as undoubtedly one of the most powerful assemblages to take the court in Central Massachusetts’ history—if not all of Massachusetts’ history. And the way they were able to become what they were and to win 23 of 24 games they played this season was because they followed a deceptively simple pattern—they would pick their time to go to work, and when they did, everything seemed to fall into place. And all the Woolies would have to do is follow that line to the win column, which they did all but once during the year. 75 FOOTBALL 1981 L A Olympic Committee Front: D. Mitchell, A. Shorette, C. A TOUGH SEASON AGAIN The future of the football team did not look very bright in the beginning from lack of players and of school spirit. A great recruiting job brought in many new hopefuls from the underclasses. It was the first time these team members had ever played together and the team worked out spectacularly. Millbury will have a concrete foundation for next year’s season. Bob Howe, Michael Murray, and Brian Lavallee, the tri-captains, showed us that the team wanted a good season and even though it didn’t work out as well as hoped, their spirit never let down. Things looked hopeful in the beginning of the season when 15 girls had signed up. How- ever, the squad soon dwindled to 10 members. Most of the time, the team played 1 or 2 posi- tions short of the 11 required for a field hock- ey game, leaving the team at a disadvantage to their opponents. Being outnumbered on the field, Millbury found very few scoring oppor- tunities. Co-captain Jo-Ann Dana scored the only goal of the season. The team’s season record was 0-14-2. The team saw strong individual perfor- mances from its members. The ten girls, in- cluding seniors Jo-Ann Dana (capt.), Lori Hayes (capt.), Sue Donnelly, and Donna Walsh should be congratulated for exhibiting the fortitude of true sportsmen and never quit- ting. Since the chances of having a team next year are slim if there isn’t more participation on the part of the student body, the juniors and soph- omores from this year’s team should be recog- nized for their noble efforts: Nancy MclIner- ney, Leanne Chevalier, Gail Scholz, Chris Ga- bree, Chris Frazier, and Gina Frederico. TEAMS HAVE WINNING RECORDS The boys’ and girls’ cross country teams had exceptional winning seasons this year under the guidance of Coach Nicoletti. The boys ended with a 10-5 season while the girls had an 8-7 record. The girls’ record was excellent considering they ran most of their meets with just 4 or 5 girls after Heather Christman was taken out with a leg injury. The boys ran meets with 6 or 7 participants. These small numbers on the parts of both teams meant that practically every team member had to place in the top 10 to have a chance at winning a meet. Added to this was the fact that Millbury sometimes competed against tea ms twice their sizes. Millbury performed well under these pressures as shown by their winning records and the tremendous individual efforts given by all. Kathy Dupuis and Milissa Bubon helped the girls’ team to many of its victories. John Gemme, Paul Gemme, Mark Bubon, and Paul Fitzpatrick, aided the boys’ team with strong meet finishes. Captains Marie Gemme, Scott Shonbeck, and Paul Fitzpatrick displayed outstanding leadership and will be missed next year. : Gtafto Auburn : Uxbridge West Boylston” Northbridge David Uxbridge West Boylston Northbridge David Prouty Leicester Grafton Oxford S.W.C.L.
