They will always hold a special place in our hearts. The people and places are a part of us, and will stay with us as we leave here to continue forth in individual direc- tions. We, the class of 1981, dedicate this book to the person who has been our class advisor for four years. Mr. Gary Robinson has guided us through the good times and the trying times ... as we aimed for our primary goal — gra- duation. For his smiling face and con- tinual support, we are deeply grateful. Gary, this one’s for you! Whether in school or out, Mrs. Sylvia Stepien, our Yearbook Advisor, can always be found involved in some aspect of the yearbook. This is only a small token of the constant dedication that she has given us. In addition to her creativity and many ideas, Mrs. Stepien’s support has truly secured the success of the 1981 Yearbook. For these reasons we would like to show our appreciation and gratitude. Thank you, Mrs. Stepien! The play was directed by Mr. Desrosiers and Mrs. Silvernail. Mr. Bruno conducted the orchestra, and Miss Oroszko choreographed the dances. The Seniors involved in this production were Gregg Woodward as Captain von Trapp, Pamela Cardin as the Mother Superior, and Lisa Murray, Robin Ingalls, Evie Griffin, Meg White, Lorraine Gauthier, and Brennan Wall. Cheryl Greene played the part of Maria, Matt Cadorette played Max, and Deborah Wade played Elsa. The Drama Club’s spring production was a comedy called ‘The Mouse That Roared” —a two act play that involved a small backwards country called the Duchy of Grand Fenwick, that declares war against the United States of America. . . and wins! Under the direction of Mr. Desrosiers, the cast included seniors Robin Ingalls, Gregg Woodward, and Bob Hamilton. Other members were Steven Laliberte, Deborah Wade, Matt Cadorette, Michael Cassidy, and Frank McNamara. Freshman Sherry Conger was the stage manager for the first time. So eee ATHLETES AR HONORED On the evening of June 9, 1981, Athletic Awards Night was held to honor athletes in all grades for their athletic talent and participation in varsity sports. Special awards were given to acknowledge the dedication and contributions of several outstanding individuals. These included District II] Athletic Directors’ Award to Pam Couture and John Nasuti; Donald Witkowski Memorial Award to Cheryl Warren and Michael Moore; Scholar Athlete Awards to Sue Altemus, Ann Brady, Deborah Dufault, Laurie Gagliardi, Nancy Graves, Mary Ellen McDonough, Karen Norton, and Diane Stowe; Athletic Director’s Award to Mary Ellen McDonough and Brennan Wall. Led by the cheerleaders, the entire school annually participates in two pep rallies — one prior to the first football game and another before the Thanksgiving Day game against Northbridge. The cheerleaders this year were confident, spirited, and inspirational to the student body. Also contributing to the energy that filled our gym were the school band, individual class’s cheering, the rally spokespersons, and especially football captain, Paul Foley, who introduced his team mates. Yelling and cheering doesn’t make a football team win games, but it sure lets the players know the whole school is behind them! Creative minds were at work this year in costume design! Pn = — AO a hd, a | ied Inspired by Mr. Wadsworth and Mrs. Dias, the senior English classes prepared and enjoyed Medievil ‘’delicacies” this December 19th. Much to the seniors’ delight, juniors served the dinner menu of cream of cucumber soup; sauteed sole; roast goose with apricot cognac stuffing, peas, carrots eaten on pita bread; anda dessert of raspberry fool and nun’‘s cakes. There was also musical entertainment provided by Bob Hamilton, Gregg Woodward, and Pam Cardin. One of the highlights of family living class was a mock wedding between classmates. This year, David Elie, Charlie Hastrom, Bob Anderson, and Fred Audette baked and decorated a class-size wedding cake. Brides’’ received bouquets and ‘’grooms’ wore formal dress as ‘Reverend’ Evers performed the ceremony and Mr. Gemme played the organ. Sue Ducharme and Tim Belliveau performed the traditional cutting of the cake. ‘ Our Hearts The Christmas concert was the first performance of our music department this year. Mr. Bruno conducted the band in their playing of traditional Christmas selections, and Mrs. Silvernail directed the chorus in their singing of both Christmas carols and a collection of Hungarian folk songs. A narration of the choral selection, O Come All Ye Faithful, was given by chorus member Gregg Woodward. It was an evening of musical enjoyment for all who attended. Anyone who attended this year’s auction, sponsored by the Senior class, saw the most organized class effort of the year. This fund raiser showed true class spirit and loyalty when so many people contributed items to be auctioned and their time to pick up, deliver, and sell all kinds of goods. Thanks to the professional skills of auctioneer Colonel Russ Lambert, the night of March 14, 1981, was an exciting as well as a successful evening. 0 a oe YL w “a” Ve O Oo — o mo AO Tete 2 (9) (AIS Ce ee UO + eS 5 oS 8 au (O) feu SS ae Sere wes yep ow: s i ; 4 : fi STUDENT GOVERNMENT DAY Student Government Day is a practical experience for all students in the election and functioning of town government. This program provides an opportunity for these four people to meet leaders in our government and to attend seminars during their week-long learning experience in Washington, D.C. Our students are able to meet other high school representatives from all 50 states and from countries all over the world. In 1981, Lorraine Gauther, Carol Gurney, Mary Ellen McDonough, and Michael Sharron were selected by the faculty as the 1981 Presidential Classroom participants. CLASS DAY Class Day ceremonies were held on June 5, 1981 in the school auditorium. The ceremonies began with a reading of the Class History by Sue Altemus and Laura Humphrey. While we reminisced, our Winter Carnival song was performed. Written to the tune of ‘’Turn { the Page”’, lyrics were sung by Chery! Warren, Pam Rydant, Sharron Chasse, Debra Boulay, Debra Moore, Chris Gonyea, Sandra Devoe, Diane Walsh, Tim Belliveau, Steve Cormier, and Denise Saylor. The Last Will and Testament was then read by Diane Stowe and Margaret White, who left ‘unusual’ gifts to the teachers. The Class Prophecy followed, read by Brennan Wall and Jean Chausse, with a cameo appearance by John Dwinell. Their ‘“Weekend Update” described the future lives of fellow classmates. Se abe tee me ee: 6 Be CEO CE Ld 4 aes 2 ge Hoy at the start : Sear in the jonruey doy in the coming home CC After the traditional ceremonies the class presented Mrs. Sylvia Stepien with a music box and flowers, Mr. Charles Capparelli with a silver letter opener, Mrs. Fran Dupont with Flowers and a gift certificate to the Wind Tiki restaurant, Mr. Gerald Boudreau with a silver ruler and Mr. Gary Robinson with a beautiful Berkline Recliner. These people helped the class successfully meet the goal of graduation. We greatly appreciated their help. Patricia Dunn, President of the Honor Society presented the class President, Lorraine Gauthier with an engraved plaque and a digital clock radio. While presenting the final gift, the class sang the class song, Along the Road, by Dan Fogelberg. And Class Day was over. 128 He 4 peeestag We the Class of 1981, being of sound minds and bodies, do hereby bequeath all our worldly possessions in the form of This Last Will and Testament: To Miss Bradford — we leave a freshman class who will play by the rules. He began his career at Millbury High School as a teacher in 1938. His involvement with the students extended beyond the classroom and he became a coach and later the ath- letic director. After many years of proficiency in this area he was given the difficult job of vice principal. It was his work as disciplinarian that touched our lives. His task to discipline the students did not stop him from helping individuals or flashing a smile in the hall. He gave most of his time helping people, WE WILL REMEMBER ... j ROACH i OMPLEX Mr. Martin J. Roach Assistant Principal and he really cared. When he retired in 1979 it was a great loss to the school. On his last day, each class presented him with a small gift to show their appreciation. But none of them seemed worthy en ough. To honor Mr. Roach and his years of devoted service, the new athletic facilities at M.H.S. were dedicated to him. During a ceremony held on No- vember 2, 1980, school personnel, students, and friends presented Mr. Roach with the official plague. The Martin J. Roach Athletic Complex will be a lasting honor for a man who deserves our sincerest thanks. Mr. William McGourty Math Guidance Home Ec.
