As we turn the pages of the annual, the sands of time flow rapidly. To preserve these grains so that they may not be forgotten is our aim in the presentation of this 1962 LAUREL. Oeclicat canon We are indebted to a great lady of Millbrook, A kind and understanding woman who has al- ways been a guiding light and in- spiration to the youngsters of our school as they advance to higher standards of life. CATHERINE PAGE MASSEY Page Thou art like a flower, so sweet and pure and fair. At last the day has arrived for measuring caps and gowns. The line-up. So what if we have big heads? We ' re SENIORS! 86 HISTORY CLASS In the fall of 1958, we, a class of ninety-nine freshmen, the largest in the history of the school, entered Millbrook High School. We were expected to live up to our size - to do things in a big way. We started our freshman year by electing Earl Woodlief, Tommy Wetmore, Susan Van Brunt, Jimmy Edwards, Betsy Jeffreys, and Kay LeNeave to lead our class. The student council broke the social ice surrounding us green” freshmen by giving a very successful dance in our honor. Crossing the obstacles that lay ahead for all beginners was a hard task for our class; but finally we surmounted these barriers which opened the path to a bright and hopeful future as sophomores. With the coming of September, 1959, the class of ' 62 prepared for a new school year - a little less doubtful and a little more confident of that which was in store for the next nine months. Of course, to start the year, we elected Butch Martin, Bobby Hicks, Su- san Van Brunt, Betsy Jeffreys, Pat Smith, and Gayle Paige as class officers. To raise funds in order to sponsor our Junior -Senior, the Sophomore Class gave its traditional Sweetheart Dance. Truly, this dance was one of the most beautiful and memorable oc- casions of our sophomore year. Somehow we managed to have a good fling and still squeeze in enough time for studies to make it into our Junior year. To most of us, the school year of 1960- ' 61 is one that will remain very dear to our hearts. Work was nothing to us; we were preparing for the most wonderful time of our lives. To get the ball rolling, we elected Tommy Wetmore, Bobby Hicks, Kay Le- Neave, Ronnie Carver, Brenda Boyd, and Linda Swiggett as our officers. Quickly we set up the committees for our magazine sales, which were a big success. We were re- lieved to find that we had enough money to give the seniors, and ourselves, a grand Junior -Senior. Finally, all our dreams, schemes, and hard work became a reality - a dance that everyone who attended will always remember as the night of nights. The setting was the beautiful Plantation Inn, befitting the theme of The Old South ; the theme song, Carolina Moon, certainly complimented that lovely night. But all dreams come to an end, and we finished our Junior year, awaiting eagerly the climax of our high school years. September, 1961, finally rolled around. That first day of school we all looked around expecting everything to have changed - why? We knew but nobody else seemed to have noticed - we were SENIORS! We saw those timid freshmen; memories recalled that first fearful day for us, also. We have come a long way. We have traveled a rough path, but are filled with sweet, nostalgic memories. We, above everyone else, can sense a dearness to that familiar hall and those well-worn desks. There is only one day we wait for, but meanwhile life must go on as usual. We elected Bobby Hicks, president; Ronnie Carver, vice president; Kay LeNeave, secretary; Aaron Womble, treasurer; Johnny Walton, reporter; and Gordon Stephenson, historian; to accept a large responsibility as officers of the Senior Class. To be assured that our senior memories would be preserved, Brenda Boyd and Karen Schwall were made editors of our annual this brings us to the present. We look forward to graduation with eagerness and antici- pation. We will leave Millbrook behind us, but we will carry her memory many years and many miles away. With each drop of sand that sifts through the hour-glass, the Senior Class of 1962 moves forward. 87 One Stop Se RVICE Groceries - Oil - Gas Dry Goods - Tires Gravel for Driveways MORE FOR LESS AT POWELL ' S POWELL’S ESSO STATION BROGDEN PRODUCE CO., INC.
