(JHillbrook Bigirici Jicljoolg A. E. FUSSELL, PRINCIPAL MILLBROOK. NORTH CAROLINA December 12, 1956 TEMPLE 3-33 84 Dear Students: I am very happy to greet you as the heart of the Millbrook School. lour com- munity is very interested in your health and welfare now and forever. Your school faculty and co-workers are happy to help you grow and develop in one of the best all round schools in this state. An educational program should seek to develop qualities of leadership, courage, enterprise, skill and moral and spiritual values. The Millbrook School program is organized to develop you as good citizens in a democratic society. Where would you have found your friends and experienced any better fellowship and training as you have received in our school? How would you have developed the talents and knowledge without an opportunity to attend a public school system? Where would you have gained the values of team work, individual and group responsibilities, the knowledge to make wise choices? Have you ever thought what you would have been if you had not gone to school? During your school years you have been preparing yourself for the happy days of your life. You will put into practice the preparation that you receive as you grow and develop in a public school in North Carolina. Many of the people with whom you work will be permanent friends to you and to your family throughout your life. Your school friends and teachers will have a tremendous influence on your personality and philosophy. You should be very proud and happy that you have had the opportunity to attend a progressive school system in a cosmopolitan area. You will probably want to continue to appreciate the opportunities that the Millbrook School has presented you. Your school will need your support even after graduation. I have enjoyed working with our students during the past 4 years. You have made a deep impression upon my life. We have all had to work very hard, against obstacles in order to develop our school into the present form. Without your cooperation your principal could not have afforded the leadership necessary to do what has been d one. It is my sincere hope that your school will continue to receive a strong support of the public and that we can accomplish the goals that we have set out to reach in the future. I sincerely hope that you have benefited tremendously from our school pro- gram and that you will share your success with others. I sincerely hope and pray that you will continue to build moral and spiritual values in your life and that you will be an asset to your community and to all of humanity. May God ble3s all of you. A. JS. Fussell Principal

FOREWORD With graduation drawing nearer every day, we, the Senior Class of Millbrook High, wish to present to you the 1957 edition of The Laurel. In this book are the cherished memories of our life here at Millbrook High. The dances; the pep rallies; the band rehearsals; the junior and senior plays; that heavenly Junior- Senior Prom and our football, basketball and baseball games are only a few of the activities we will long remember. As we journey down life ' s highway we will realize the importance of the training we have received while in school. The experiments in the lab, those lessons in home ec classes are only a few examples of the training which will prove useful to us as we make a place for ourselves in the world. It is with this idea in mind that we present this annual for your enjoyment and use.

DEDICATION With sincere appreciation and deepest gratitude, we, the class, dedicate the 1957 LAUREL to Mr. A. E. Fussell. You have been more than a teacher, Mr. Fussell. You have taught us not only from textbooks but by precept and example. Your Christian character has influenced the students of Millbrook High School to aspire to higher walks of life and greater service. And so, for your personal interest in the students and for your patient guidance as a principal, beloved teacher, and true friend, we dedicate this annual to you.
