Tffcbtozq As the final door is about to close on the school career of the class of 1956, let us again bring some of our most precious memories to mind. We shall begin with the late summer of 1952 when forty-four green freshmen entered the home room of Miss Olive. There we opened the first door to our high school career. Some of us opened this door with eagerness, gladness, and with suspicion, but through the patience and guidance of our teachers, we all managed to secure entrance. We were very happy that year to have Harvey Crabtree, Branson Meachum, Shirley Phillips and Betty Stokes join our class. We were just as sad to lose Shirley Martin, Elma Giddens, Donald Hewitt, Sonja Whit- worth, Mary Linda Brummitt, Jean Ford, Shirley Phillips, Betty Stokes, Gail Shearin, Eliza- beth Clifton, and Shirley Freeman to various places. Some of our activities for this year con- sisted of a Christmas party and a weiner roast at the end of the year. So the door closed on our first experience in high school. The next September, with the aid of Mrs. Lois Yelton, we opened the second door. The activities we enjoyed that year were a Christmas party held at Wilder's Grove Club House, a going away party for two of our fellow classmates, and a weiner roast at the end of the year. We were happy to find four new faces among us that year. They were Joe Frye, Danny Rogers, Doris Horton, and Ioan Ketner. We were also happy to have Shirley Freeman rejoin our class. Our hearts were saddened by the loss of our classmates Shirley Drake, Ronald Nichols, Doris Horton, and Frances Carter. We also lost three of our boys to 'Uncle Sam's Navy. They were Branson Meachum, Joe Frye, and Joe Dunn. Time must go on so we continued with our studies and fun to complete our Sophomore year. The third door of our school life was opened with a bang. We were now known as the Jolly Juniors and we surely lived up to the name. As we entered the room, we found Miss Doris Stevens, our home room teacher. It was through her patience and direction that we were able to present the hit comedy Just Ducky. We will long remember the laughs we received from its performance. The next big eve nt of this year was the Junior-Senior Banquet. For this one big night, it seemed as though we had by some magic wand traveled to the beauti- ful island of Hawaii. This year we gained several new classmates. Betty Looper and William Wood joined us from another school. Carol Looper and Leona Crutchfield decided to leave their housework long enough to continue their education. This year we also welcomed Faye Ray from Wake Forest in exchange for Gertie Bailey and Betty Jo Carter. Then at the end of the year Leona Crutchfield and William Wood decided to leave us again. Our annual Christ- mas party for this year was held at Mrs. Kirkman's home. It seemed to have been enjoyed by everyone. To close out the school year, we had a swimming party and a picnic at Beacon Lake. The play, banquet, and parties made this a very joyous year for everyone. Now as we have entered our fourth and final door at Millbrook, we find Miss Stevens is again our home room teacher. We know that through her guidance this final year will be a successful one. In September our class rings arrived, but to our disappointment they were of the wrong pattern. We reordered, and in about six weeks the other pattern arrived. This year Faye Ray decided to return to Wake Forest and Shirley Freeman again moved to Pittsboro. Marjorie Cardon came to us from Cary High. We find this year is one of hard work. Some of our big tasks for this year are the publication of The Laurel, working and planning toward a trip to New York, the presentation of the Senior Play, entitled 'Tumblin' Creek, and the graduation exercises. As this fourth door is gradually coming to a close, our hearts are saddened at the thought of leaving Millbrook and our many friends, but in our hearts lie memories that will last forever.
