TOpert V o! Alleghany Highlands ' ® 08ical Society We, The Wildcat Staff of 1967 68 proudly present this year’s yearbook in the hopes that you will remember the activities of MiUboro High School as fondly as we remember placing them in this book. Our theme this year is “All The World’s a Stage”. We hope this theme has captivated the feeling of all of you in that you are the actors and actresses that make the “stage”. 196S The Wildcat Staff wishes to express a special remembrance of our beloved Doctor S. P. Hile- man. “Doc” Hileman was a wonderful person who touched on all of our lives. He is especially remembered by the students, faculty, administration, and friends of Millboro High School for his special interest and consideration of our school. Consider the countless examinations he provided for our athletes for which he often received little or no known appreciation. Consider also the long hours and hard work he put into the preservation of good health in our school and through- out our entire community. Not only was “Doc” Hileman everyone’s physician, he was also every- one’s friend. We here at Millboro High School shall always have a special place in our hearts for the memory of a truly great man Doc! 2 UMmmm ‘AU the WorM is i Stage” is a line takeafroni a play of Wiliiam Shakespeare entitled “As You Like It.” We have ehoien this for our theme this year because we feel it portrays the true way of life here at M.H J. The administrative officer is the director, the faculty plays the part of prompt ers and we students are the play. The eighth graders are amateurs soon to rise to the status of first, second, and third acts played by the Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors respectively. Each of the lower classmen are setting their goals for the pand finale played by the Seniors. Yes, “all the world is a stage” and no one expresses this fact any better than William Shakespeare himself when he said: “All the world’s a stage; And all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances. And one man in his tbne plays many parts,” Ihink. What part do you play in the world’s stage! T)ec icaiion We the “Wildcat” Staff of 1967-68 wish to dedi- cate this issue of our Yearbook to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Samuel (Buddy) Armstrong, who have served our school in our community in every way they pos- sibly could. First, to Mrs. Armstrong, who has spent endless hours helping her homeroom class, and FHA girls in all their activities as well as many other functions. She is always willing to put forth her best effort at all times. She listens to many a problem but if anyone can come through with a smile it is Mrs. Armstrong. Next, to Mr. Armstrong, who, like his wife, is a “go-getter” and requires the best from all his students and basketball boys. He has been able to spur the MHS students to the spirit needed to show the true support for our teams. We owe many of our accomplishments the past few years to Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong. 4 JlCifIBoro l(l)ijlc caf Editor - Betty Kay Cauley Business Manager — Judy Durham Assistant Bus. Mabrey I 5 I i Our J rincipaf ancf Jamilp Children are the most important possession in life. They are different from any other kind of possession in life, because they are individuals, and no matter how they are influenced, they still hold their identity. It has been my desire and purpose to maintain our school in such a way as to allow each child to grow to his full potential physically, mentally, and spiritually. No child can be complete without each of these areas being a part of his life. Someone once said, “You must be a fanatic to be good at anything you try to do.” If this is so, then I am guilty. I don’t feel there should be anything standing in the way of children getting the best they need. Life is short and the time for getting an adequate education for life is even shorter. Success is found in the present but a dream is always necessary so that life can go on. R. B. Linkenhoker, Principal Millboro High School t H 6 uicfance Gounse o or Mr. C. F. JOYCE MARIE BETHEL RONNIE FORBES SANDRA MCMULLEN WESLEY POE O ass Diisiort ROSE MARY TAYLOR CAROLYN EDWARDS In September of 1956, 38 excited children entered the First Grade for their first encounter with school. Our first grade teacher, the late Miss Ada Haynes, soon was able to put us at ease and become both our mother and our father at school. Our first year of school was an exciting adventure and many of our class were allowed to participate in the May Court. The following year we returned a little more secure, a little more mischievous, and a little more eager to learn the “3 R’s”. Our teacher this year was Mrs. Joesphine Catron. The highlight of this year was the “Rhythm Band” in which we all par- ticipated. Our third year we had Mrs. McLaughlin for a teacher. Our class had now dwindled down to 15 boys and 17 girls, but some of the same friendships made then, still carry on today. This year Bath County had a Science Fair and many of us contributed ex- hibits to the fair. Summer vacation was now beginning to have a new significance. When it was over, we trooped back to school and to the fourth grade. Our teacher this year was Mrs. Blanchard. The highlight of our fourth grade was May Day when our class did the Dutch Dance. In 1961, 25 of us were promoted to the fifth grade and we happily migrated to the “old building”. Mrs. Tankersley was our teacher and we took our first field trip to Natural Bridge. At the beginning of the sixth grade our class numbered 28 members, and we had our first male teacher, Mr. Paul Botkin. By this time, our class mates were interested in athletic events and we played basketball with other elementary classes during the high school varsity season. After a very short summer we entered the seventh grade and were met by Mr. Jerry Brady, our seventh grade teacher. This year we took an exciting trip to Char- 20 1 KAY LIVICK DIANNE BLACK JOYCE MARCHALL lottesville, where we visited Monticello. The door to high school was then opened. My, how things changed and how we became a part of this change. In the eighth grade we had as our homeroom teacher, Mr. Joe Linkenhoker, who is now our principal. May Livick was our candidate for Baseball Queen this year. We were mostly treated as “rats” during this year, but were finally accepted as high school students upon our initiation into FHA and FFA. The years began to fly by, each seeming shorter than the previous one. Our spon- sor in the ninth grade was Mr. Otis Mabrey. The class candidate for Baseball Queen that year was Sandra McMullen. Finally our Sophomore year arrived and our sponsor was Mrs. Donald Swope. Our class now contained 24 students, five of whom were initiated into the National Beta Club. Both boys and girls in our class participated vigorously in athletics. In 1966 we became Juniors under the able sponsorship of Mr. Charles Armstrong. Three highlights for this year were receiving our rings, the Junior-Senior Play, and the biggest event of all, the Junior-Senior Prom, which was held at the Woodcliff Country Barn with music by the “In Crowd”. Finally we reached the peak of our years, by entering the Senior Class with our previous sponsor, Mr. Charles Armstrong. The class this year has really been working hard to raise money for our Senior trip to Washington D. C., which we plan to take in the early part of May. We are also looking forward to graduation with mixed emotions. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the teachers, the administration, our parents, and all our friends for working with us through these past twelve years. The goals of life can never be reached without dependence on love and friendship from others.
