Varsity Basketball lst Row4Pudder tlvlanagerl, Miller, Starkey, Chapman, Smith, Eller, Marsh, Kelly tManagerl. 2nd Row-Luther tManagerl, T. Johnson, lVlerrell, Deloria, Coach Cluggish. The li rst three games of the season were exhibition games with Perry, Madison, and Spanx-er. Geneva rolled over Perry 40-25 and took llladison by a landslide of 62-T. Speneer gave Geneva a surprise by defeat- ing us 33 to 35. This was the first time sinee l938 that Spent-er has beaten us. The .llaglets won against all three of these teams. Genevals first league game was with Painesville. The Eagles revenged last year's game with them by defeating the Red Raid- ers 43 to 26. Smith and Merrell were high point with the first making 17 points and -the latter 15 points. The Reserves lost 33 to 26. Bob Strong was high with 9 points. The Eagles won their second straight league game by edging out Ashtabula Harbor 29 t-o 26. It was a very fast and exeiting game with first one team ahead and then the other, but the Eagles came out on top. The Reserves suffered a 2nd defeat, 24 to 19. Bob Strong again high with 9 points. Our third league game was with Mentor and the Eagles sent the Cardinals home with a 38-25 defeat. Merrell was high with 15 points and Smith second with 14 points. Geneva lost its first league game to Con- neaut 25 to 24. Merrell turned in one of his best performances and also was high with 13 points. Miller played a swell game, too. Geneva High Lettermen SENIORS Ray Chapman-l+'11llbaek-3rd HG . Ray was a hard boy to stop and was good on defense by making tackles that were really felt by our opponents: he gave three really good years to football. D011 Fouse-Left Tac-kle-2nd year out and his 2nd HG . Don was a hard charger and his bone crushing attacks will be missed. Jim Fuller-Left Tackle-lst year out and his lst HG . Jim was hunt at the begin- ning of the seaso11 but in the short time he played he showed he was a good ball handler and backer-up of the line. Jerry Kettering-Right Halfback-2nd year out and his 2nd HG . Jerry was also injured in the middle of the season and after that his flashy running and block- ing were sorely missed. Dick Ma.n13hey-Center-lst year out and his lst G , Dick started out as left guard but was then shifted to cenlterz he laeked experience but improved at the end of the season. Dick Marsh-Right Halfbaek-1st year out and received an AA letter. Dick came out late in the season but showed himself as a fast and shifty runner but lacked experience. Bob Merrell-lleft End-3rd year out and his 2nd G , Bob was chosen captain and well deserved itg he is one of the best ends in the league. He has remark- able ability to catch a ball and is a dead- ly taekler. Jim Miller-Left Halfbaek-3rd year out and his 2nd UG . Jim was at first blocking back but as time went by we depended on him to play right haltbaek after Kettering was injured and sonne- times quarterback: he is a hard runner and taekler. Tony Sanzottaf-Quarterbaek--3rd year out and his 3rd G , Tony is the last of the Sanzottas to prove to be a typieal football playerg he is a hard runner and taekler. Bob Smith-Right End-2nd year out and his 2nd G , Smitty was a very good catcher and a good punter. His one handed taekles were very outstanding. He will really be missed when he gradu- ates. Guy Swartz-lleft Guard-3rd year out and his lst HG . Guy had his chance in the Harbor game to prove he was a football player and then proved himself a good taekler and blocker. JUNIORS Don Beach-Center-lst year out and re- ceived an A, A. letterg Don improved greatly towards the end of the season and has the ability to play good ball. tContinued on 24 Dick Cook-Right Guard-2nd year out and his lst G g Dick is light but is a fast. low charger, and a good tackleg good material for next year's baekfield. page 28?

Marsh played a very good defensive game. The Reserves also lost 25 to 24. The lflaglis lost their second league game to fl flashy Willoughhy quintette 56 to 33. Smith. Mer- rell. and Sanzotta were high with lll, 7, anll 5 points respectively. Miller and Sanzotta showed the most improvement hy playing a good offensive as well as a defensive ganie. Vhapman made 4 points by making 2 long' shots from the middle ot' the floor in the last few minutes of play. The Reserves lost 43 to 34. Bob Strong and Adam Zawada played il good game hy tallying 12 points each. The Eagles lost to a sharp shooting Ash- tahula outfit. 40 to 24. Geneva played a good defensive game but was weak on offen- sive. Marsh played a good all-round game and also made 5 points. Merrell and Smith were high men with 8 points each. The liaglets lost 31 to 15. liob Strong was again high with 6 points to his eredit. Our second game with llarhor proved a defeat for us, 31 to 41. The Mariners led all the way in scoring. Geneva would have had a better chance if Merrell hadn't broken his ankle in the first few minutes of playing. In the last quarter we tried a comeback but if was too late. Smith played a really fine game by tallying 14 points. The Reserves won 34 'to 18. Zawada went to town by also collecting 14 point-s. Mentor noscd us out 30 -to 31. This was really an exciting
