Football Scores Football Geneva Geneva Geneva Geneva Geneva Geneva Geneva Geneva Geneva 1944-45 51 --- 27 7 0 --- 12 0 --- 0 ....... 0 --- 0 --- Season -- Perry --- Madison --- Fairport -- Mentor -- Harbor -- Painesville --- Willoughby --- Ashtabula -- Conneaut Football Team Season 1 944-45 Football practice began the third week of August. The Eagles had no coach so Mr. Peck generously gave his time 'to coaching the team. Thursday before the first game our new coach, Mr. Uluggish, came. Mr. Peck remained as coach for the first game and after that Coach Uluggish managed the team. At the Perry game, Miller's -two runs through center for 58 yards and 39 yards were very spectacular. Chapman averaged 5V2 yards per crack which also netted us two touchdowns by him in the Madison game. In the same game, Sanzotta being rushed territically, failed to find a receiver and so began running. Doing so he pitched to Smith, who reached high, pulled the ball down, and scarnpered the remaining yards for a touchdown. At Fairport. our able cen- ter. Jim Fuller, had his arm broken at the First Row-Pudder tManagerl, Swartz, Fouse, Manthey, Smith, Sanzotta, S. Ruck, B. Starkey, D. Cook, R. Kelly. Geneva High Lettermen SENIORS Ray Chapman-l+'11llbaek-3rd HG . Ray was a hard boy to stop and was good on defense by making tackles that were really felt by our opponents: he gave three really good years to football. D011 Fouse-Left Tac-kle-2nd year out and his 2nd HG . Don was a hard charger and his bone crushing attacks will be missed. Jim Fuller-Left Tackle-lst year out and his lst HG . Jim was hunt at the begin- ning of the seaso11 but in the short time he played he showed he was a good ball handler and backer-up of the line. Jerry Kettering-Right Halfback-2nd year out and his 2nd HG . Jerry was also injured in the middle of the season and after that his flashy running and block- ing were sorely missed. Dick Ma.n13hey-Center-lst year out and his lst G , Dick started out as left guard but was then shifted to cenlterz he laeked experience but improved at the end of the season. Dick Marsh-Right Halfbaek-1st year out and received an AA letter. Dick came out late in the season but showed himself as a fast and shifty runner but lacked experience. Bob Merrell-lleft End-3rd year out and his 2nd G , Bob was chosen captain and well deserved itg he is one of the best ends in the league. He has remark- able ability to catch a ball and is a dead- ly taekler. Jim Miller-Left Halfbaek-3rd year out and his 2nd UG . Jim was at first blocking back but as time went by we depended on him to play right haltbaek after Kettering was injured and sonne- times quarterback: he is a hard runner and taekler. Tony Sanzottaf-Quarterbaek--3rd year out and his 3rd G , Tony is the last of the Sanzottas to prove to be a typieal football playerg he is a hard runner and taekler. Bob Smith-Right End-2nd year out and his 2nd G , Smitty was a very good catcher and a good punter. His one handed taekles were very outstanding. He will really be missed when he gradu- ates. Guy Swartz-lleft Guard-3rd year out and his lst HG . Guy had his chance in the Harbor game to prove he was a football player and then proved himself a good taekler and blocker. JUNIORS Don Beach-Center-lst year out and re- ceived an A, A. letterg Don improved greatly towards the end of the season and has the ability to play good ball. tContinued on 24 Dick Cook-Right Guard-2nd year out and his lst G g Dick is light but is a fast. low charger, and a good tackleg good material for next year's baekfield. page 28?
