Q --ZA :2-V I mf' -a.,,,xhn, 1947 1948 CALENDER OF EVENTS Initiation started the year off with a SMELL of garlic and onions worn around necks of green freshmen much to the discomfort of the student body. During the two days of initiation, the girls wore bathing suits, long underwear and carried gunsg boys wore girls shorts and halters, and represented pirates complete with foot ball pants, eye patches and high heels. As a climax to initiation, the sophomores honored the new full-fledged freshmen. with a party. A large number of students attended and had fun playing games and danc ing. Next on the agenda of calender events was a Hallowe'en Masquerade party which helped to decrease property destruction. Jim Anderson and Jo Roy won the f main prizes for being the hardest to recognize. Stan- f . dard Hallowe'en games helped to make the party a suc- A cess. Local business men donated prizes for the party. A season that grew up from the funny papers was introduced to Mill City High by the student body During this season , girls asked for dates and paid of financial difficulties and lack dents spent their evenings at home male section of the called ntwerp seas the bills Because of nerve many stu To conc ude twerp season the Lettermen's Club sponsored a dance which wasn't very well attended Few took part in the amateur program which was the first of its kind in the high school this year. Betty Humphreys was given the prize for an accordian solo Other contestants were Louise and Louis Pletrok in an electric guitar duet a song by 'The Three Flips and a Flopn Jim Anderson, Kirk Wirick, Tommie Fisher Phyllis Anderson and a vocal trio by Mary Ellen and Leila Mae White and Joan Davis The annual Football banquet was held December 5 in the Recreation Room Those attending were the football team Coach Beck, members of the facultv, yell leaders and the guest speaker Jerry Lillie coach at Willa mette University Much credit should e given the boys' mothers who prepared the banquet CContinued next page! The play steam bath and five confused love affairs. were: Louis Verbeck, Dr. Benjamin Bellows, idge, Algernon Clawhammerg David Karr, Augustus May, Francis Clark, Simeon Singletong Jerry Hunter, George Tobing La Cretta Thomas, Florence Bellows, Marian King, Mrs. MacEckrong Marian McFadden, Dolly MacEckrong Betty Syverson, Maggie Brady, Virginia Jackson, Mrs. Amelia Tobing Mr. Hankins, director. Something different in Pie Social sponsored by the teur talent show made up the ning. Myrna Clason, a seven for a piano solo. Students were Phyllis Anderson, accompanied by Carol Sletto, Ernie Podrabsky, Joan Davis and Mary Ellen White. Mr. W. L. Krause and Reverend Lloyd Whitford also partic- ipated. the line of parties was a Sophomore Class. An ama- entertainment for the eve- year old, won first prize displaying their talents The March of Dimes was the recipient of the pro- ceeds of a Faculty vs. High School basketball game. The high school came out on top by a small margin Prevlously, the old men of the faculty had scored a victory over the A string Also on the March f Dimes program was a volleyball game between the faculty and the high school girls This was a complete walk away for the faculty There was also a gradeschool basketball game between Mill City and Gates Proceeds amounted to 5 The senior class presented a three act comedy, 'Nuts To You which was a real success The plot con cerned a young man who needed money badly to finish college He advertised himself in the local paper as a consulting psychologist for people who were afraid of losing their minds.
