Shinzenkai And Spanish Club Glow ln The SpoTlighT he purpose of The Japanese Club, Shinzen- kai, was To bring TogeTher people wiTh a common inTeresT for Japanese. Shinzenkai, which means, 'imeeTing of goodwill, finished iTs TenTh year here aT MHS. One of The goals This year was To give The members a beTTer under- sTanding of The Japanese culTure Through service projecTs and acTiviTies. This year, Shinzenkai had various school and communiTy acTiviTies. These include making New Year's cards for paTienTs aT Wahiawa General HospiTal, decoraTing The Mililani FirsT Federal Bank for ChrisTmas, and iTs annual Japanese Club Ban- queT. This year The club had an increased mem- bership and beTTer aiiendance aT acTiviTies and meeTings Than in previous years. Kelli Fujioka felT ThaT The club was enjoyable because There was a feeling of 'warmTh ThroughouT The club. Jon Elo felT ThaT iT was a club where he could meeT new people and learn small porTions of The Japanese culTure. Pegeen Mira felT ThaT iT was a way in which she could learn abouT Japan and Their culTure by geTTing involved in The Japanese-orienTed acTivi- Ties. The 'IQ87-88 school year promised To be an exciTlng one for The Spanish Club. The officers agreed upon five main goals for The year. These goals were To revive Spanish Club spiriT, have fun, be producTive, promoTe fellowship among mem- bers and The Spanish culTure, and be acTive. The Spanish Club had a loT To offer Spanish and non-Spanish speaking sTudenTs. OpporTuniTies for communiTy service were plenTiful ThroughouT The year. The Spanish Club celebraTed American and Spanish holidays which meanT ioTs of parTiesl Their firsi service proiecT was held' in De- cember. This service projecf was a canned food drive. This food drive, held during The holiday sea- son, was primarily for Those who were less forTu- naie. January was labied DeparTmenT Appre- ciaTion moeTh. Each academic deparTmenT was Thanked for iTs conTribuTion To our educaiion here aT MHS. These and oTher acTiviTies helped To keep Them moving. When asked abou?
