Glam Qwpkecg Since I am secretary of the Alumni of 1962, it is my job to locate and send invitations to my classmates for the Alumni Banquet. While doing do, I decided to find out just what each one was doing. I found that my good friend the former Wanda Callahan is now in Germany with her husband, General Fisher. It seems at the time I re- ceived her letter, Roy had gone out on a mission and she was still com- plaining about him not writing her enough letters. She keeps her six children on the run by sending them back and forth to the mail box. Miss Valconna Henke is now in Washington, D.C. She is a congress- woman from Illinois. This wasn't a surprise at all because she always was the class politician. Of course that means the Democrats are back in office. The old Martin E Lewis team has been replaced by the new Mumm E Hawthorne team. They are a real success in Hollywood. You know Bob always did take the vocal spotlight and Duane, well, he was the tricky one. The grapevine says Hawthorne has been sneaking out on Mumm with the new Marilyn Monroe, Margaret Probasco. Her new picture is The Three Sinners , co-starring Mumm H Hawthorne. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Pratt are residing in Milford. Gordon has taken over his father's drugstore. It seems that he is working on a new kind of Hadacol, I don't know just what it is yet, big secret! He keeps Ann busy doing his bookworkg he sure must have a lot of it, be- cause everytime I go by the store she's in there. Personally I think it's just an excuse to keep her up there. I don't know how she does all her work at home Cincluding taking care of her red-headed twinsj and work at the store, but Ann always was an efficient worker. The Ladies Gab and Blab session had its monthly meeting at the elegant mansion of the leading lady of Bryce, Mrs. Theodore Balanoff, the former Ann Todd. The entertainment was furnished by the famed song- stress Miss Gloria Morr. Gloria, it is rumored, is expected to be the second Jane Froman. And just between you and me she told me in her letter that she has been auditioned by MGM and is expecting a call any day. Leave it to Gloria for secretsg she told all of us she was going to be a teacher. Mr Balanoff is now the distinguished mayor of Bryce. The mayor is kept very busy on the project of putting sidewalks in his enormous city and teaching the oldest of his three sons the fundamentals of football. Edward Rutledge is now main instructor at Chanute Field. Ed en- listed in the Air Force soon after graduating from High School. He is planning to make the Air Force his career. His letter informed me that he would be glad to attend the Banquet. Kenny Ecker owns a large automobile shop in Kankakee. He has com- bined his interests in electrical engineering with the invention of a faster drive on Ford cars. His invention is expected to be a big suc- cess, because I hear Mr. Glover is buying a share in it. Also as a sideline he teaches an evening agricultural course to the high school boys in Kankakee.- Laverne Natschke lives near Watseka. He has made himself a quite profitacle business as a grain farmer. Farming has always been his main interestg the only trouble he has is when Mr. Ecker comes down from Kankakee and tries to tell what to do. David Crawford wasn't our class president two years for nothing. You see, he is now President of the General Motors Plant in Chicago. and in his spare time he plays professional football with the Bears. Dave assured me he would be at the Banquet. I also received notice that my classmate Kathleen Yaden will attend the Banquet. She is teaching Home Economics in a small town in Georgia. Her three years of Home Ec. in High School sure did help her get off to a good start. She says her specialty is southern fried chicken and good old home-made pies. Marylyn Scherf's ability in basketball has really made her famous. She is playing on an all girl's basketball team. They have been touring the United States, but she explained to me in her letter this season they are going abroad. She also tells me that she doesn't expect to stay very long because, well, we all may be going to a wedding before long. 115-

GZM4 Umm Kathleen likes to play volleyball She's always there when her friends call. Dewaine Van Hoveln in FFA, Learns much about farming every day. Bernie Smith, her school work all done, Is patiently waiting for her sailor husband. Marylyn Scherf, a real fine gal, To all her classmates, she's really a pal R is for Rutledge, Ed is his name, Art work and cleverness has brought him fame. Karen Roeder, what a gal! To each fellow worker, She's really a pal. Gerry k. from Texas did hail, She rates high on Luecke's scale. Whenever Maggie is around, You'll see her smiling face alight, For Margaret's never learned to frown, She likes to keep her school days bright. Editor, Gordon: Assistant, Ann: Through life you'll see them, Working hand in hand. Beverly Norenberg has a way, Which all her fellow workers say. Has helped her much both night and day, In all her work and in all her play. N is for Natschke, Laverne is his name, Orneryness and fun, have brought him fame Bob Mumm likes to have his fun, He's lots of fun to everyone. Pretty, musical, clever, and bright, Gloria Morr is the fellows' delight. Norma Luening likes to draw, paint, chalk, letter, ln friendship as in art, I'm sure you'll find. You'll never find anyone better. Bill came from Chi to join us this fall, His talents range from basketball to law. L is for Lauterbach, This one likes to study, To all the seniors, She's really a buddy. Joanne L. and Elmer, They're really a pair, Everywhere you go, - You'll always find them there. Wayne Hylgan drives a snappy black car, In basketball and lovemaking, he'll really go far. H is for Hawthorne, a basketball player, One of the top 5, for the team he does care. Valdonna Henke, a stylish lass, We are glad to have her in our class. P is for Phyllis, a very good friend, To all that she knows, She'll be friends to the end. Little Freddy Focken, Although he is quite short, Rates high with us seniors, For being a good sport. Kenny Ecker has a way, With a certain Sophomore girl, they say, He's alwayshappy and full of joy, We all know him as one swell boy. Margie likes to twirl and skate, With her classmates, she does rate. Beverly Davis is a friend, To everyone who knows her, Andy must have thought of that, I guess that's why he chose her. President Dave, a fellow so swell, In our senior class, he has served us well Wanda C. who's full of joy, Is patiently waiting, For a soldier named Roy. GLM Pwpkwy - cm 'Z Karen Roeder is now playing piano with Spike Jones. Karen, you know, started out in High School working in the school's orchestra and most of us thought something would come of it--and as a sideline Karen gives flute lessons to the children of all the movie stars. Phyllis Garrelts is in Denver, Colorado. Phil is taking things easy right now, as we all know, she is a famous playwright. She has just finished her play and it made Broadway right away. I always knew she had a secfet ambition. Didn't you? Admiral and Mrs. Carl Smith are now stationed in Hawaii. They have been on a tour of the South Pacific. Berni is kept busy by trying to make little ladies out of her two girlsg it seems they insist on building sailboats. At the time she is eagerly engaged in teaching them the Hula, I found that my former classmate, Dewaine Van Hoveln is in New York City and to my surprise he is a psychiatrist. He has a large office and quite a stall. It seems that most of his patients are women. fGood old Dewainej. And to think he never liked Psychologyg something must have changed his mind--I wonder what? Mrs. Glenn Scheive, the former Marian Lauterbach, is teaching English at the University of Illinois. When I last heard from her she was kept very busy devoting her spare time to her husband and her three girls Qtripletsj. She also uses her shorthand ability in making out her grocery list. I was not surprised when I received a letter from Joanne Lauterpach Sloan telling me that she and Elmer will be glad to attend the Banquet if they can persuade Grandma Lauterbach to take care of Gretchen and El- mer Jr. The trip to Illinois will be quite an experience for the child- ren. It will also be an enjoyment for the Mr. and Mrs. because they haven't been back to the progressive city of Milford in ten years. Marge Doud has set up residence in Onarga. She has an interesting business right across from the Military School. She has made herself quite a name as the best twirling instructor in this county. Her favor- ite students are the Cadets from across the street. To our astonishment Freddy Focken has become a doctor. While tak- ing his medical training he invented a miracle drug and he is now 6'3!'. Quite a change from the 5'5 boy we all knew in High School. fLet's hope he doesn't turn into a modern Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.j He is number one doctor in the clinic in Watseka. By the way, Miss Norma Luening is his receptionist. We all remember her in typing and short- hand classes. I hear that Norma has been offered a position in the Art Institute. We all remember her love for art while in school. I just received a letter from Bill Langfahl, one of our former classmates, saying that he would be able to be at our Banquet this year Last year at this time, as you know, Bill tried and convicted Joe Stalin and his associates on war crimes. It is rumored that the President will appoint Bill to the Supreme Court. Two of my old classmates have really helped in the progression in the city of Milford. Since the retirement of Mr. Hulgan, Wayne has taken over and remodeled the South Gate Station. Miss Beverly Noeren- berg has set up a seamstress shop. She is very successful in making new designs equal to those in Paris. In her leisure time she is trying to learn the filling station business. The former Gerry Roberson has taken her husband, Burdette Luecke back to Texas with her. She keeps him busy counting her millions she has made on her oil wells. It takes all her time to watch her five little cowboys and keeping their dude ranch open for business. In her letter she said, You all come down and see me sometime. This is the end of the story, except for me. I have taken over the job as the secretary of MTHS and in my leisure time I have taken up a course in cooking. Say, that reminds me, I had better start sup- per. You know short blond people are sometimes very impatient. Well, who knows what will happen to us in the next ten years!! .. 16 .-
