HEADMASTER'S MESSAGE The dreadful monotony of your school-mastering would, I believe, kill me, a man of business carelessly remarked to me. What dreadful monotony? I countered, sur- prised. I then made clear to him that Cro use the colorful vernacularj, of all the ain'ts that ain't in boarding school life, the ain'test is monotony. Not only does the essential quality of every year vary markedly from that of all other years, but each new student- group differs from all other groups, no two school problems are identical, every student even is thoroughly unlike every other student. The essential quality of a school-year, readily felt, is expressed with difficulty. Possibly this year's may be described as the maintenance of the highest average of balance in all aspects of our life in our history-although other years have seen specifically more sensational developments. This is reflected in all our activities, special programs, etc., but especially in scholarship. Never has the averageof scholastic interest, ability, and achievement been so high-although in past years we could boast of a few more exceptionally brilliant students. It is also reflected in a high student average of sincere cooperation and of a serious, mature outlook. At the time of this writing not one drastic disciplinary action has been necessary. We are truly sorry to see the members of the class of 1949 leave Milford, we shall miss them deeply. Many of them have been with us so long that they seem closely interwoven with our lives. To them and to all I extend for the faculty, and for myself personally, our abiding good wishes for merited success and happiness. Also for the school I thank all members of the 1949 Typhoon Board for their devoted efforts in giving us this striking memento of a wonderful year. U l .
