College junior varsity handed Milford its second one point defeat in a hard fought contest on the Terriers' home court. This time the battle was tight all the way with Blake and Cohen pacing the losers with 15 points each. A shot by jim Willcox with less than a minute to play, gave Milford a 45-44 edge and what seemed a victory until Arnold's Strachan hooked one up with 4 seconds to go to put it away for the college boys. In the third away game in a row Admiral Billard handed Milford its third defeat in as many games, 50-40. The fast, hard driving military team was well out in front as the first half ended, but Milford rebounded in the second, and with Blake leading the Way narrowed the lead to 8 points with two minutes to play. This however was as close as they could come and the game ended with Milford 10 points down. Panceina, who scored 20 points was high man for the game, followed by Blake who scored l3. Travelling to Greenwich, Milford ended its three game losing streak by trouncing Edgewood 56-35 and thus gaining her -first victory away from home. Milford took the lead immediately after the opening tip- olf on two consecutive hook shots by Easy Bob Blake, and were never in any trouble thereafter. Although the Edgewood boys held the height advantage they were no match for the maroon and white sharp-shooters who enjoyed their best shooting percentage of the season. Blake, Cohen and Dubord alone scored 43 points with 16, 14 and 13 respectively. As time, tide, and printers wait for no man a full coverage of this basketball season is impossible. The remaining games are with Suffield, Collegiate, and Arnold College. As in the past Milford again will enter the Eastern Preparatory lnvitation Tournament, and with them go wishes for good luck from the whole school. in w1lrrf1111 1- . an

Orange and Black the strongest opponent of the season. Dubord again led the Milford scoring with 12 points. Returning once again to their home court, the Red Devils evened their record at 2 and 2 by defeating University School 47-29. With Dubord, Blake and Cohen leading the scoring with 16, 13 and 13 res- pectively, the Milford quintet began to roll up the score after a very close first half. Meeting the first college competitors of the season, the Maroon and White Went down to a heart- breaking 55-32 defeat at the hands of the Bridgeport University V. After trailing by 10 points at the half, Milford came back strong and worked its way into the lead by one point with less than a minute to play, only to have Ramik win it for the Bridgeport team with a long set shot. This time Dubord held the scoring honors for the game as well as for Milford with 12 points. V. basketball team compiled a rather fine record of three wins and one loss. This schedule had not been completed as yet so the final record could not be stated. At the beginning of the 1949 season the team had many excellent prospects. Don Fine and Fred Hammer were a pair of deceptive forwards, Lewis Choo Choo Cohen and Burt Schneider split the bucket slot very nicely. Morris Shorofsky, Roger Stern, and Mike Roth rounded out the quintet at guards. The V. team started rolling when they defeated a large but slow Collegiate Prep. ensemble. The score was low as Collegiate played a possession game of ball. The final score was Milford 19, Collegiate 13. The high scorer for Milford was Fred Hammer with eight points. -,.,fv,f 3 43
