More- over they have, perhaps, never considered the influence the river had on the settlement of Milford. Our founders selected this spot because the river provided waterpower and built a mill on a ford in the Wepawaug, thus giving the town its name Milford The river was named after the Wepawaug Indian tribe from which the site was purchased. This book has been named after the river in an attempt to show that the high school reflects and influences the life in Milford, as does the river. We hope, then, to make this edition of the Yearbook a true picture of the life and times of the senior class of Milford High School in its relationship to the town, Therefore we have chosen the river itself as our theme - attempting to move our townspeople to a reappreciation of the beautiful setting the river has made for many buildings in town, the high school included, and an acknowledgment of the influence upon our lives socially, economically and historically that the river has exerted. The Wepawaug truly runs through our lives. 2
