It can be said that perhaps no one person took a keener personal interest in the activities and welfare of Milford High School than did Maude L. McLaughlin. During her 36 years as a teacher at MHS las she affectionately referred to her alma materj she taught music, English and literature with a true dedication and her guidance of the chorus, school plays and other extracurricular activities received the same sober approach. This . . . and yet MLM possessed a delightful sense of humor that could quickly dispel a dark cloud, and which kept her in demand as a speaker and perennial master of ceremonies at school affairs. It's no accident that many of her former students went out into the world and made good in a big way . . . and often wrote her letters years later to thank her for the many little things that served as potent guideposts along their way in adult life. Miss McLaughlin was interested in her school, to be sure, but her interest in a larger sense way in her community. She was secretary of the Milford public library when it was founded in 1907, and never lost interest in its activities nor lost sight of its educational value to the community. Following her retirement as a teacher, MLM could not easily disassociate herself with the world of letters, and went to work for The Milford Mail as its editor. Younger folks remember her more for this work, but until her death April 18, 1956, former students came to her with their problems . . . a sort of court of last appeal in the matter of letters. While Miss McLaughlin is gone and her memory is in repose, her guiding influence at Milford high school is as sure and positive as the brick and mortar in the building itself. -3- CLASS ROOM CE E Girls' Physical Education Typing Class Geometry Shop Latin Chemistry Sectional Home Economics - 4 - B .. OFFICE OF THE PRINCIPAL MILFORD. INDIANA To The Class of '58, You have now reached an important landmark in your lives. The members of your class are to be commended for staying in school until high school graduation is attained. Many who started out with you have not had the determination and courage to finish high school. There have been temptations to many of you to quit school in order to work and earn money. Graduating from high school is a mile- stone in your lives of which you will always be proud. It is the hope of your teachers that all of you who have the ability will continue your formal ed- ucation in order that you may enjoy better and more useful lives. For the rest of you it is their hope that your school has helped you to take your place in your community and to become useful citizens. I am sure that all the teachers join me in wish ing you a happy and successful future. Sincerely yours, Harold Young Principal -9- IOR AP v-r . ks Z L J LQ fs - 55157 A flg fi, 'S O X , fm, if Lk I WW SQ .W L f l-h fl is A ' 1 aw i I ' ., 4, kb , Y, ' I, V 4 7 I AN: mf ' 1 , , ,, W , .. , .
