Have Madame Hidinki read your palm. She'll tell you your fortune, she'll tell you your past, present, and future life. Come one, come all. I just couldn't resist having my palm read. Could she really tell me of past events? I must find out. So in I went. There I was face to face with the greatest palm reader alive. She looked at me and said, Lady, what would you like for me to find out for you? I spoke up quickly, Please tell me what happened to my classmates of '56. I know it's been fifteen years since we left M.H.S., but please tell me. She looked at my palm and began to talk. Oh, yes, I see Kenny Kauffman. He's now mayor of Hastings City, a very large city of 20,0005 it used to be known as Hastings. And Ruth Ann Brindle is now head of a large executive department at the Weatherhead Factory, the largest factory in the world, builder of jets. Whom do we have here? Why, it's none other than Ruthie Stieglitzg she's now a Bridal Consultant for Marshall Field and Co. Lady, did you know Virginia Kann? Oh, yes! I exclaimed, where's Ginny ? She's now a lady wrestler. Better known as 'Gorgeous Ginny? Here's a guy named Larry Losee. He's now working for the Federal Government. He's an FBI agent, doing very well at tracking down criminals. Meet pretty little nurse Doris Hartterg she's working in a large hospital in New York. Who's that she's talking to? Dr. Don Rink, voted best M.D. of the yearg it looks as if they're doing very well for themselves. And whom do we have here, Captain Ervin Troup of the United States Navy. Why, I knew Ervin. Well, what do you know! Madam Nancy Kammerer, famous dress designer, of Paris, France, nowlchas her name in the spotlights of fashion, in Paree and all over the wor . Let's see what happened to Lois Evans. Goodness, she's teaching kindergarten students at Milford! Mr. Larry Haney is now principal at M.H.S. Looks like the students really toe the mark now. Looks like Alan Wuthrich is Postmaster General of the United States. He's really working hard. The U. S. has the quickest mail service of the world, thanks to Mr. Muthrich. Here's a busy little wife. Who is she? None other than the former Ruth Hepler. Her five sets of identical twins really keep her busy. She's married to an engineer, a very happy family. Madame Hidinki gazed into my eyes and asked, Did you know anyone named Gene Rarick? Oh, yes, I answered. Where's Gene now? Why he's manager of the largest apple orchard in the world, 15,000 acres of the best apples ever eaten. He's in the state of Washington. No wonder the apples have been tasting so very delicious! And Larry Weisser is now a jet pilot. He's testing new jets, and rockets. Sounds like a very exciting job. Madame, you've really done a good job, but just one more question. Yes, what is it? she questioned. I bet you can't tell me what I'm doing now. She looked at my palm and gazed into my eyes and replied. Lady, your career is homemaking, and you have six daughters. How did she know? Well, it looks as though the class of '56 is doing quite well. This latter structure could not accommodate adequately more than four hundred students. With the enrollment at more than five hundred, and a first grade class coming in each year with approximately seventy pupils to require two class rooms, plans were started in 1953 to erect a new elementary building. In 1954, the Easterday Construction Company of Culver, Indiana, was awarded the contract, and work started in July, 1954. It was opened for limited use in September, 1955. Open house was held on Sunday, November 6, an event which was attended by more than eight hundred persons. t SIXTH GRADE ?sw m V 9 N? l , FIFTH GRADE FOURTH GRADE 7 V- J- I n mfg-ig ,ww mm umm nlIuvmlnrnllllhlilljgylMl! I established many scoring records and hair total of 1196 points during his four years a varsity player. Every game was great 1 Larry as he averaged 23.5 per game duri his senior year and was on many all counw and sectional teams during his four years vu Milford. ERVIN TROUP Ervin, a two year varsity player, was mainstay as a senior. His outstanding gan was against Leesburg when he scored points, the final free throw winning the gan with six seconds left. He had a .613 free thrc average. KEN KAUFFMAN Ken, a veteran of two years on the va sity, played his best ball during the count tourney. His ability to work hard will be great asset to him in the future, DENNIS SHARP Denny, a junior playing his first year 0 the varsity can be counted on to fill Larr Losee's place next year. Denny played an ou1 standing game against North Webster whe he pulled in many defensive rebounds an scored the winning points in the 4th quarter FRED HERSHBERGER Fred, a junior playing his second year o the varsity and first as a starter, played goo ball all year. Fred was called on to play eithe forward or guard and always did a good jol: He can be counted on for next year. He fin ished with .635 free throw average and wa second highest scorer on the team, NORMAN MILLER Norman, a junior guard, played in jus about all the varsity games. He saved th Syracuse game as he substituted in and scor ed nine points in the last half. Norm has very good one hand jump shot and can b counted on to play a lot of ball next year. UNIOR BUCHER Junior, playing his first year on the var- ty, can be counted on to fill a regular posi- on next year. A very hard worker in prac- ce--played an outstanding game against eesburg. ILL BLAKE Bill, another junior, played on both first nd second teams throughout the year. Bill as the best long shooter on either team and, he continues to improve, can win a start- ng position next year. 'AT SPEICHER Pat, only a sophomore ,started every game at guard and had a nine point average or the year. He was chosen on the all-county ind sectional honorable mention team. Pat vas a pressure player, scoring heavily in both ourneys. JARRY SLABAUGH Larry, a sophomore started at guard with 'at most of the year. He is the best defensive rlayer on the team and played an outstand- ng game against Middlebury when he came hrough with 12 points. TEDDY BEER Teddy, serving in his first year as student rnanager, did a terrific job. He was the one zhe boys always yelled at for tape, aspirins, socks, etc. Ted kept the spirits of the boys up all the time with his timely jokes. STEVE JONES Steve, another sophomore, was a regular starter and ended the year with 120 points. I-Ie was also an outstanding rebounder. His good passes enabled Larry to score many ex- :ra points. With hard work during the sum- mer, Steve should be a tough player next year. il ' VV A fl - , , ' i ul, R. Maurine Smith, a junior, has been a cheerleader for two years although she moved to M.H.S. from Ft. Wayne at the beginning of her sophomore year. Dixie Scott, a freshman this year, will have spent her first and last year cheering on the Trojans. Dixie is leaving Milford for a new home in Wyoming. The cheerleaders cheered the Trojans on to victory and kept all the spirits high when they lost. As a member of the town- ship advisory board for the four years pre- ceding his election as trustee, he worked hard on planning our new elementary build- ing. He went on trips to Ohio, Michigan, and parts of Indiana to get ideas for our proposed building. Now that the new elementary building is in use, he is starting on plans to modernize the high school building and to equip the departments with up-to-date and adequate equipment. In these efforts, he should have the support of all citizens who are inter- ested in maintaining high standards for our schools. He believes that Van Buren Town- ship boys and girls deserve the best. SUPERINTENDENT Mr. Glen Whitehead has been our county superintendent since 1945. Under his lead- ership, the township schools and Warsaw High School have cooperated in holding an- nually a chorus festival, a band festival, and a speech festival. These activities bring together once a year all the boys and girls in these organizations for a public perform- ance. Perhaps the most important achievement during his tenure has been the establishment of a county film library. Kosciusko County was among the first in the state to establish a film library and to employ a full time director.
