0I'l0l' .!46!6!I'0:i:5 Iamce Enkson Today lS Thursday Iune l3 l957 Iune 1957 a date that once seemed so far away 1S suddenly here The days of slngtng Llttle Ducky Duddle class p1ctures taken on the front steps of the school our grade school operettas our flfth grade debates our four years of hlgh school the tests and term papers the years we thought we d never ltve through are now just the crazy th1ngs we used to do ' Yesterday we were those SGUIOTSI In two short months some of us w1ll be those Freshmen' some w1ll be already managrng thetr own homes others w1ll be worktng and st1ll others help1ng to preserve our country s sacred treasures by thelr servlce tn the armed forces We as young people are constantly rernmded of the respon S1b1l1I1eS that are ours and the places we w1ll have to occupy ln c1v1c affalrs Everyday we read about the Untted States relatlonshtp wrth other countrtes 1n the world and real1ze that tn a short ttme these problems w1ll be ours to face I do not mean to pass over these future respons1b1l1t1es wlth a glance and a shrug but I also thlnk rt IS lmportant to stop for a mlnute for perhaps the last trme and thlnk over our past twelve years 1n school Dld these past years and experlences help us 1n any way so that we w1ll be better able to meet and overcome our prob lems as adults? These past twelve years that we are cornpletrng tonrght are so lmportant 1n our ltves and 1n the hves of every chtld and young person They are the formatlve years that take such an tmportant part ln determlnlng our future and w1th that the future of our country Durlng these years we are 1n elementary and hlgh schools We are constantly ln assoclatron wlth our classmates and we learn how to get along w1th them we learn tolerance and a few soclal graces as they are called that we w1ll need rn our future l1fe 1n soclety It IS true that such a socral educatlon and knowledge IS lmportant but 1S lt lmportant to a greater degree than the educatlon for whtch we are actually ln school? ls our soclal l1fe so lmportant that we should sacrlfrce our academlc educatlon for 1t'?
