The second floor was the actual hall and on the first floor was located the police department, the selectmen ' s offices and other small offices. The lowest floor had jail cells and a public market where farmers could sell their goods ... To bring revenue into the hall, the front rooms of the building were leased out to local merchants. Open town meetings were held in the hall until a growing population made changes necessary. Thus in 1901, Robert Allan Cooke did the ar¬ chitecture for the building as we know it. Addi¬ tions were put on and the second floor hall was enlarged to make open meetings still possible. In 1935, town meetings became representative and continued to be held in the hall until the motion was made to hold meetings at the new High School, built in 1973. Though the Town Hall is not the center for recreation and culture that it had been earlier in the century, it still houses the town offices and stands as a reminder of the local pride and com¬ munity spirit which we celebrate in this bicen¬ tennial year. 6 Over the last two hundred years, Milford ' s industries have enlarged and expanded from small shoe factories to major corporations. ' ■ « - ■V memorial hall la i n s 1 ill m ... ,® I 1 i fr The Congregational Church was originally built in 1743. On June 24, 1880, 8 students graduated from Milford High School. 8 The Brookside Elementary School, built in 1979, is one of the recent additions to Milford. Rice ' s Pharmacy is the only business still operating in Milford which was listed in the 1880 town directory. 9 r We hope that in the years to come Milford will prosper and grow as it has during the past two hundred years. 10 A Million Dollar Smile. It is a gratitude that you have earned by the giving of countless hours of your time, a lending of your hands in support, and a faith that has enabled us to grow as individuals. We thank you, Mrs. Doherty and Mr. Ridolfi, not solely as dedicated teachers, but as loyal friends.
