There was a formal ceremony held in the David I. Davoren Auditorium where the class advisors presented the students with their rings. The ceremony was followed by a dance with refreshments. Parents and students alike enjoyed the memorable occasion. For the class of ' 77 it was only the Beginning. 87 Tmt ' Bp y , 1 r Jm 1 f a KtJ i .ā ' ā %Ā -WKjjU. ism i ' JH wk Ml A . These cheers were frequently heard bellowing out of the football bleachers by the exuberant Pep Club, advised by Ms. Arlene Guidali. Helping the Scarlet Hawks on to Victory, the Pep Club always made its support known. Many thanks to them for their strong backbone during the season. The Key Club is a service organization to school and com¬ munity. The role of the students is to give themselves for the betterment of others without any form of monetary reward for their efforts. All monies collected over the course of the year are awarded in scholarships, used to defray operating expense, and donated to worthy charities. Much of the work is done outside of school hours, which is a perfect opportu¬ nity for the students to use all that they have learned. 100 This year, the activities of the Future Nurses Club included visiting the patients at the Milford Convalescent Home and hospitals to explore vocational opportunity. The purpose of this club is to introduce students to the nursing and paramedical practices. The Future Teachers Club, this year got a chance to try out teaching first hand. They were allowed opportunities to work with a teacher here at MHS or to tutor at an elementary school. There were also discussions and presentations dealing with the teaching profession. future ITeachers 1 101 The French Club is an opportunity for those students who have studied french to put the language to use. The big event of the club is an annual trip to Quebec during the February vacation. Before hand, of course there are fund raising activities, includ¬ ing a Christmas show and afterwards there is a cookout to close off the event. Due to the great enthusiasm for skiing, typical of New En¬ glanders, the MHS Ski Club is gaining more popularity and is expanding steadily. The larger than ever group made fre¬ quent ski trips, that were enjoyed immensely. p. Cl W o OOOOOOOO Primarily a theater viewing organization, rather than an ac¬ tors club, the Drama Club attempted to introduce those stu¬ dents interested in theater to the amateur and professional stage. Led by Mrs. Pickett the group engaged in many fund raising activities. The Scarlet kept the student body informed on the new tidings regarding Seniors, sports, music, gossip , and occurances around the school campus. Their publications were eagerly awaited and greatly enjoyed. Under the guidance of Mr. J. Di- agle, the Scarlet ' s reporters, writers, printers and all involved made it a high light of the MHS media. 103 O At their weekly meetings, the Science Club plans activities that inquire into, and explore the scientific aspects of the environment. Raffles and plant sales are held to acquire funds for trips to museums and science oriented institutions. The inquistive student ' s advisor is Mr. F. Jablonski. Under the direction of Mr. M. O ' Connor, the Student Council tries to keep the lines of communication open between the administration and the student body. At their monthly meeting, the officers and homeroom representatives discuss problems that arise within the school and propose manners of solving them. During the year, some representatives visit the Student Council convention to exchange ideas with other students re¬ garding school policies. During activities mods and also on Thursday even¬ ings, the members meet to discuss and review possible topics for upcoming math meets. Their first big accomplishment was learn¬ ing their way around and meeting new friends. In Novem¬ ber, the freshmen held their class elections for officers. With the guidance of their class advisors Mr. Ruscitti, and Miss Di Cicco, the freshmen class put on dances and fund raising events. Mr. Ruscitti, Miss Di Cicco, advisors M. Litavis, Treas., D. Delvecchio, Vice-Pres., P. 116 Parente, Sec., absent from the picture was G. Pizzillo, President. And then he said . . . Look at those two over there. You two just might be studying! Those boys are staring at me! 117 o o o o o o o For the class of 1979, the sophomore year was a very productive one. Their paper drive and the selling of their class cook books was a great success. Shortly after, the Sophomore Ring Committee was selected. Their duties were to interview companies and decide which company from which the class would order their rings. The remain¬ der of the year was spent planning for the big night. On the spring night the sophomore received their rings. The ceremony was attended by students and parents alike. A delicious dinner, sponsored by the class was served later. 118 Mrs. Francsconi, Mr. Small advisors, P. Morin ā Vice Pres., K. Pagnini ā Pres., J. Salvia ā Sec., L. The 1976 Football Season was both rewarding and at the same time disappointing. The Scarlet Hawks began the season with the hopes of another Midland League title, and a possible Super Bowl trip. Their dreams were shattered as early injuries and losses to Franklin and Algonquin made the title hopes seem impossible. The young team did not fold, however as the Hawks rolled over the rest of their opponents ending up the strongest 8-2 team in the league and in second place. The seniors closed out their careers having lost only 5 games in four years. The winning attitude and success of these players will be hard to replace. Hardest of all to replace will be Super-back Mark Niro, whose 52 touchdowns and over 3,000 yards in a three year career will never be forgotten. To Coach Corbin and his crew we say thank-you for a job well done., and to the graduating seniors we say, may your success be as great in the future as it was in the past. Tri-captains T. Morgan, M. The girls, with only one se¬ nior, Lu-Ann Lovejoy, swam to a 7-3-1 record. For a fairly new team, it performed fantastically, competing in the toughest league in Massachusetts. COUNTRY On your mark, get set . . . This year ' s cross country team has not mea¬ sured up to teams in recent years as can be seen by our record. However, a good time was had by all and everyone did show improvement during the season. Injuries ran from tired legs to collaps¬ ing stomachs. Hopefully next year there will be more bodies out for the team and the record will definitely improve. After all, we can only go one way. It ' s not funny guys!! There were thirty-two participants in the 1976 Girls ' Volleyball program. Although Shrewsbury and Hudson did not have teams this year, volleyball was considered a Midland League sport. The Varsity Midland League record was 5-5 with an overall record of 6-7. The Varsity Squad was led by Mary Cooper and Denise Ardito. Being a relatively new sport at Milford High School, not many spectators got caught up in the excite¬ ment that prevailed. This year ' s Boys Basketball Team was somewhat impressive as they were victorious many times and when they did loose it was a very close game. Other Seniors who contributed greatly were Howie Long, Joe Luby, Mark Niro, Pat O ' Brien, Charlie Piscia, Paul Wally Seaver, and Mark ValAnzola. But we can ' t count out Juniors who came off the bench to help out in the clutch. They were Steve Fuller, Jimmy Morgan and Tom Villani. Girl ' s gymnastics has four main events, floor exercise, vault¬ ing, horse, balance beam, and the uneven parallel bars. Gymnastics is an individual sport for the most part, but teamwork is still an essential element needed for success. The routines on the floor exercise and balance beam are composed of dance movements, leaps, turns, hops, jumps, and tumbling skills. For vaulting, a strong run, height, and complete body control are all needed. The uneven parallel bars requires strength, the ability to do swinging movements smoothly, and agility. There is much pressure placed upon a gymnast but she must learn to have determination and a tremendous amount of confidence. If the gymnast lacks these two factors, she can easily become discouraged. But after the accomplishment of these two feats the greatest re¬ ward the glory of victory, will soon follow. Arc de Trimphe There ' s the V for Victory. Voila Chorus Line 155 BOYS Coach P. Individual goals were stressed to a great degree rather than the goals of the entire team. Each swimmer strived to improve his time or score in every competition. Milford ' s swimmers were consistent in bringing home first and seconds but lack of depth proved to make meets exciting. The team was led by Seniors, Brett Cherington, Stephen Varteresian, Bill Vitalini and Allen White. Captain Bill Vitalini was a great influential leader to all of the new members of the team. Coach Peter Filosa organized the team into a winning effort. The seniors always came through for the team. Allen White had the 500 yd. freestyle all to himself throughout the year. 156 Up and Out.
