Thus ends a whole dynasty of distinguished MHS senior classes, all linked together by a deep spirit of pride and unity which overshadowed all of the material deficiencies of the building itself. Future classes may boast of the modern laboratories and olympic-sized swim¬ ming pool of the new MHS; but we, the class of ’72, will forever be enriched by a wealth of warm memories which only our humble Alma Mater could have nurtured. Amidst the confused jumble of images which comprise these memories, two faces are most prominent: those of our class advisors, Mrs. Joyce Phillips, and Mr. Melvin Rota. We may thank these two people for their unselfish dedication to our class, and for all they have done to make our short stay at Milford High School a time worth remembering. Mrs. Joyce Phillips 12 Mr. Melvin Rota It would be difficult to fathom where the O.L.I. would be without the astute guidance of Mr. Russell Ridolfi. It was Mr. Ridolfi who made certain that every deadline was met, and that every assignment was completed. He served as guide, and a very knowl¬ edgeable instructor. Mr. Ridolfi, more than anyone else, guaranteed that all O.L.I. affairs would run smoothly and efficiently. Like Mrs. Doherty, Mr. Ridolfi has spent only a very short period of time as an O.L.I. advisor. How¬ ever, those who have worked with Mr. Ridolfi have come to identify him with the success of the yearbook itself. Mr. R ussell Ridolfi The setting is Room 314, in the middle of a bustling O.L.I. meeting. Papers are flying, pen¬ cils are scribbling, photographs are being marked and sorted; and somewhere, amidst the noise and confusion, an O.L.I. staff member calls out, “Miss Mastroianni — I mean, Mrs. Doherty — could you help us out?” And Mrs. Claudia Mastroianni Doherty was always there to lend a hand. Whether it was a question on English grammar or good judg¬ ment, Mrs. Doherty was always ready to offer her valuable opinion. She was one advisor who gave out more than just useful advice and infor¬ mation: she gave of herself. Mrs. Claudia Doherty 13 IN MEMORIAM DAVID I. DAVOREN And if our hands should meet in another dream, we shall build another tower in the sky. 14 FACULTY ILVwiu iuiMitoiwtu ' wTLilWlLJWiaiUCT ' UtUI T tLlUi: ,, 1 ! It is with sincere appreciation that we of Milford High School wish to take this opportunity to publicly thank Mr. Charles Brucato for his many years of devoted service to the Milford Public School System. He has undoubtedly administered to the youth of Milford a serv¬ ice, which, with its intangible qualities, represents an example of a fine administrator and a concerned educator. His deep concern for students, his desire for administrative effi¬ ciency and his true dedication to the teaching profession have not gone unnoticed. Please accept, Mr. Brucato, our sincere thank you. Mr. Charles Brucato In the September of 1971, after 32 years of dedicated service, Mr. J. Gerard Sweeney stepped down from the Milford High Faculty. His teachings in English, Latin, and languages will be remembered by three generations of MHS students, and his contributions to our school and faculty have merited the deep respect of all. Mr. Swee¬ ney was one of a very special class of teachers who knew how to blend purposeful instruction with warm human contact between student and teacher. Our sentiments on his retirement cannot be better expressed than in the words of Robert Frost, whom Mr. Sweeney knew personally and admired: “So Eden sank to grief. So Dawn goes down to day. They were chosen for their outstanding qualities of leadership and dependability. The purpose of the program is to teach and simulate the process of nominating, voting and electing public state officials. Catherine Marenghi won first prize in the 1972 American Legion Oratorical contest. The title of her speech was “The Constitution: A Perpetual Document.” Other participants were Jackie Tellier, David Salovitz and Carol Boccacino. Each speech was very commendable and made a favorable impression both on the student body and the judges. Jerilyn Arminio was selected by a vote of her classmates and by the faculty as the senior girl most personifying the quali¬ ties of leadership, patriotism and character. 84 UNDERCLASSMEN a vu i uvjicimiuivjuiu i ujuiu i viu i Ma iv i u i PiaiuiuiiJi i L.iurjci T C T- j.TC i uCT ' j raT ' waffirmexsEji E| iff j Y - ■ KtS 1 ■ wQwjra ' J Mm • ' ] ' ■ ' J ' Ejl W pSjj CLASS OFFICERS: R TO L: President Paul Malnati, Vice-President Marilyn Ferrucci, Treasurer Tara Votolato, Secretary Barbara Kalun- ian, Advisors Russell Ridolfi and Miss Mary Lee. STUDENT COUNCIL This year the Student Council, headed by our witty president Vin Colelli, has had many successful endeavors. This could not have been possible without the assistance of the rest of the cap¬ able officers: Vice-President, William Freedman, Secretary, Karen Beth Mael, Treasurer, Lorraine Mohan. The total in¬ volvement by the representatives of the Student Council has been quite commendable. One of the tasks which the Council has undertaken is to form a Student Congress. This program will involve many more stu¬ dents at MHS in the coming years. Planned for the spring is the annual Sadie Hawkins Dance and the ever popular school picnic. Last but not least, we must thank our dedicated advisors Mr. Matt O ' Connor and Mr. Harry Peters for helping the Student Council be as successful as it has been this year. BACK ROW, D. Iacovelli, V. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY This is the year of the “New Look’’ in our chapter of the Na¬ tional Honor Society. In addition to its tr aditional dedication to scholarship, leadership, service, and character, the society has taken on new and meaningful projects. These include raising money to buy books for orphans at Christmas time, and spon¬ soring a winter dance, the proceeds of which will provide schol¬ arship funds. Of course, the high point of the society’s calendar is still the moving induction ceremony, which continues to draw tears from the eyes of proud parents. The Honor Society represents the elite group which have maintained at least a B average and have upheld the high purposes of this society. Officers and Advisor, D. Carusi, Mrs. Duggan, J. Tumolo, L. Whenever there is an event in progress, one will always encounter at least one avid camera buff there. Under the direction of their advisor, Mr. Melvin Rota, the club has planned field trips to different parts of scenic New England. We all hope that the Photography Club continues to have luck in their future endeavors. Officers and Advisors, S. Connors, M. Ferrucci, S. Dias, Mr. Rota, J. Calagione. FRONT, L. Mohan, L. For any young student who intends to choose teaching as a career, this club offers the chance to practice teaching in the surrounding schools and to discuss that experience with other club members. A trip to a local college and also a tea have been planned. Many fund-raising events are being held in order to award a scholarship to two senior club members. What some people not associated with the paper do not realize is that the entire paper, including typing, layouts, photographs, headlines and ads, is done entirely by the staff. Under the guidance of Mrs. Beatrice Klein and Mr. John Pilla, and the leadership of Editor-in-Chief Lorraine Mohan and Assistant Edi¬ tors Deborah Lussier and Stephen Connors, and the help of devoted students, “The Scarlet” has won numerous awards from both Boston University and from the Worcester Telegram and Gazette.
