Many students, teachers and townspeople didn’t think the Scarlets would have a winning season. Were they ever wrong! The Scarlet Hawk football team enjoyed one of the most successful seasons in many, many years. The team wound up with a five win and four loss record capped og by a devastating win over the St. Mary’s Tigers. 94 Three Point Specialist Scotty on the move The Hawks started off their schedule in the right fashion by a victory over the highly favored Maynard team and then through the course of the season they managed wins over Marlboro, Westboro, Hudson and St. Mary’s. Milford’s efforts on the gridiron earned them thi rd place standing in the Mid¬ land League. Their offense was commendable and their defense was among the finest around. A good combination 97 Senior Hawks Graduating seniors on the squad include Co-Captains Pat Fullum and Mark Ahearn, plus Steve Scott, Gary Balian, Pete Ruscitti, Steve Mainini, Roy Testa, John Consigli, Rick Maz- zarelli, Bear” McLean and Bob Derderian. We will certainly recall in the years to come the inspir¬ ing play of the M.H.S. Scarlet Hawk football team of our senior year. Co-Captains; Mark and Pat 98 The Scarlet frosh under the supervision of rookie coaches Tony Chinappi and Art Siipola continued the winning spirit and performance which has new very clearly become the way of M.H.S. athlet¬ ics. The junior Hawks compiled a record of 5-2- 2. Their efforts recorded victories over Maynard, Al¬ gonquin, Hudson, Shrews¬ bury and town rivals St. Mary’s. Freshmen stand¬ outs who are being groomed for the varsity include Ted Kosiak, John Zacchilli, Tiger D’Amico, Steve Alves and Bobby Bertulli. m a n F o o t b a 99 Girls in the fall too! Field hockey was reactivated this season at M.H.S. after a lapse of several years. Be¬ cause much time was spent in learning the skills and rules of the game, little time was left for a competitive schedule although the girls came up with a 1-1 tie against Ashland. Graduating seniors are: Joanne Cenedella, the utility wing; Leslie Tocchi, the swift¬ footed inner; Bonnie Bufalo, defensive halfback; Elly Miller, the forgotten wing and Denise Charest, our fearless” goalie. 100 This year the M.H.S. cross-country team, under the direction of a new coach, Mr. Nello Allegrezza, finished the season with a rather disappointing 0-8 record. Lack of experience and injuries contributed to a losing season. The three seniors on the team were Bill Con¬ ley, Bob Warren and John Bagaglio. John Shaver, an underclassman, was the most con¬ sistent finisher for the Scarlets. 101 B a s The Hayes Crew k e t b a The winning attitude, reverberating at Milford High through the fall, carried through the winter. The Scarlet basketball team, with Coach Dave Hayes at the helm, compiled a winning record of 14-7. Impressive wins were recorded against Algonquin, Hudson and Maynard. By their impressive type of play the Scarlets earned the distinction of participating in both the Clarke Tournament and the District 3 Tournament. Another impressive feat was accomplished by Co-Captain Fran Ruscitti when he became the first M.H.S. player in 10 years to score over 300 points in a single season. Other seniors who will be de¬ parting from the squad are Mike Prece, Steve Scott, Flash Flanagan and Co-Captain Mike Star” Jordan. ' 102 Coach Hayes has a good nucleus to work around next year with Carl Deleso, Tom Vitalini, Greg Mangini, Steve Manguso and Tom Delfanti all returning. 104 105 w r e s The Wrestling team, in its second season, also re- L corded an impressive mid¬ winter showing. 1 1 n § The agony and the ecstacy The Scarlets led by Coaches Chinappi and Wittorflf were relentless in spirit and determination. Their hard work yielded for them many benefits including experience. Graduation will take the following seniors: Roy Testa, Mauro Maressa, Pat Fullum, Joe Shuras, and John Bagaglio. We are sure, however, that the Scarlet matmen will prove to be fierce competitors next season. 107 The Scarlettes, competing for the first time in the Midland League, enjoyed their best season in three years. Although they only won four games (that’s two more than last year!) the girls played well in each game. The girls also won their all important game against St. Mary’s by a score of 59-51. Graduating seniors are: Co-Captains Bonnie the Fouler” Bufalo and Elly Gunner” Miller and Denise Bullet” Charest, Leslie Lay¬ up” Tocchi and Susan Swish” Verelli. a s 109 c h e e r 1 e a d 1 n g Original formations, towering pyramids and loud cheering characterized this year’s cheering squad. Led by Co-Captains Maggie DiAntonio and Cathy Cozzens the girls practiced their routines and pyramids to perfection in preparing for the David Prouty Tournament where their efforts are always rewarded. The spectators at our games were always entertained by the cheerleaders and the pep and enthusiasm shown by this group was a tremendous boost to high school sports. Ill Led by senior Captains Clau¬ dia Diotolevi, Barbara Gentile and Frannie Morcone, the Pep Club provided quite a boost to all our athletic teams. The club enabled all students to demon¬ strate their school spirit and was counseled by Miss Stephanie Slack. Pep Club The girls sold shakers, buttons and beanies and drew numerous posters throughout the year. The Pep Club has proven it¬ self to be an active or¬ ganization and true pro¬ moter of school spirit. 112 113 c o a c h i n g S t a f f 114 Our Rallies 115 Ferocious Female Faculty 117 Fearless Faculty tilli 118 119 5 - m Fearless Faculty Cheerleaders ON THE AIR DIAL 1490 122 123 124 125 ' 127 128 129 ' MffSSK V . ■ ; 131 132 133 134 135 137 138 139 141 142 143 mggm fiiiilt HsiS uli ■ ,. .:,x ' ■ 145 146 -♦ 82-8300 _--.-.V; rft Office ;.5r- to 2 D.m. ...ttNE ift) 5th FLOOR SQUARE SPECIALISTS „ Secretaries ,.i Copley Square -tarf at $520 + Frequent fl . 11 and must han- Sala- FFICE ?T. — ■cement II I I dwntwn. ing ma- All ages, il bonus ' till 9:30 STS. 120 Place- Salary Increases vVhy be bored in a routine job when you can enjoy sparkling atmosphere which is natural.
