'I I' SX DDUL vuunio :gen ,IT-, --- We, the 5i'ders, have chosen as our theme for this, the sixty-seventh annual edition of the Oak, Lily, and lvy, the idea of a musical comedy. To explain, our choice of this theme, let us Wander through the halls of Milford High School. We can hear the soft echo of happy 'voices laughing and talking as together We Work and play in harmony. For these fleeting moments, at least, We let the rest of the World go hy as We enjoy our classes, our extra-curricular activities, and the opportunities to make friends. Happiness is the keynote here at Milford High School, and it is for this reason that We have chosen these strains of music to represent us - for there is a melody in our Words, rhythm in our movements, music in our hearts. ll lg x E E U f R S Um Afeadfb' iz 5 7 4 The members of the Class of l95l are Very proud of our School Committee for we feel that no finer group could be chosen to look after our interests. Allan Wallace, Treasurer, and Mary D'Amelio, Secretary. Salvatore Cimino Was Chairman of the Bulletin Board Committee, and his associate was Frank Cfandolfi. The Publicity Com- mittee Was headed by Helen Fink and consisted of Mary D'Amelio and lanice Seastrom. t The annual membership drive held atthe beginning of the year was very successful and provided enough money to carry on the activ- ities of the committee. Thanksgiving Day, Christmas, and Easter were commemorated by distributing baskets and gifts to the various rest homes in Milford. A food sale held in the cafe- teria on March 30 proved a huge success, to the gratification of the Whole committee, who Worked hard all year to carry out their duties efficiently and effectively. , .fidaaaiana Under the supervision of Mr. Philip O'Donnell, the librarians have worked hard during the past year. They have catalogued all the books and it was found that there are two thousand books in the library. The librarians for the year were Shirley Whitney, Marion Palanzi, Barbara Gilrnore, leanette Tessicini, Barbara Andreano and Alice Cahleo. They have all Worked hard to keep the library in good condition. Although there are many books in the library there is still a great need for more novels. The reference books of the library have been of great use to all the pupils and have been found to be of great value. Science Glad The Milford High School Science Club has always been one of the most successful activ- ities of the school. lts purpose is to further scientific interest on the part of the students and to give help and encouragement to those who Wish to continue study in this field. Under the enthusiastic leadership of Mr. Fred A. Metcalf the club held bi-monthly meetings and pre- sented movies, speakers, and experiments for the benefit of the members. Every student ex- hibited an original project during the course of the year, and plans Were formulated to hold a science exhibition in April. An informal party was held for the club members and their parents during the Christmas season. Refreshments Were served and favors and gifts were given to all present. Novelty dances were held under the direction of a committee headed by Arva Rosenfeld. Helen Fink, Evelyn Well- man, and Barbara Parente were in charge of other committees for the party. The officers of the Science Club Were: Richard lnnis, President, Peter Bedrosian, Vice- Presidentg Marsha Levy, Secretary, and Bar- bara DiVittorio, Treasurer. The chairman of the Program Committee was loseph Oneschuk, cmd the Constitution Committee was headed by Arva Rosenfeld. As in previous years the inspiration for the club's activities came from Mr. Metcalf, whose whole-hearted support has been the sole reason for the continued success of this organization. Gammeacaal GZ A The Commercial Club of Milford High School was organized again this year under the supervision of Miss Eva Burns. The following officers were elected President Barbara Toccig Vice-President, Dorothy lannettig Secretary Elnora Vasile and Treasurer Emanuella Ozella. The main function of the Commercial Club is to publish the Commercial Club Paper. The paper's staff aims to publish all news concer ning Milford High School and also short stories, articles, and other features contributed by the students. As in the past, the editions of the paper were enthusiastically received and the club was praised for its Work in publishing it. The Commercial Club was grateful for the competent support of its adviser, Miss Eva Burns. Every year this hard-Working teacher has guided the Club during its activities and has been a prominent reason for its continued success. l li fa - sua, fn- -Ll... Zlaench Glad Under the supervision of Miss Margaret Pianca, Le Cercle de leanne D'Arc was once again organized by the members of the senior French class. At each meeting, a French program was prepared and oitered by the members. These meetings, carried on entirely in French, consisted ot a presentation by each member of some French poem or song. The first selec- tion was always The Lord's Prayer, L'Oraison Dominicale, and no meeting would have been complete without the singing of the stirring French national anthem, La Marseillaise. Led by the capable president, Arva Rosenfeld, all the meetings were conducted smoothly and ended all too soon. The other officers also performed their duties well. They were: Vice- President, Marsha Levy, Secretary, Margaret Bozaiang Treasurer, Gerard Cuginig Program Chairman, Marilyn Cogeng and Musical Director, Zarouhi Sarkisian. The outstanding activity oi Le Cercle de leanne D'Arc was a visit to the Boston Opera l-louse to see the opera Carmen with our wonderful instructor and friend, Miss Margaret Pianca. A Christmas Party and a Valentines Day Party were also held by the Club, with Miss Pianca's delicious home-cooked cakes and cookies the main attraction. At these parties the members exchanged greeting cards, and besides thoroughly enjoying themselves, gained valuable knowledge concerning French customs. Miss Pianca's endless store of stories and reminiscences concerning France never ceased to entertain and thrill us. lt is to her that we owe the joy of many imaginary hours spent among the fascinating people and glorious scenery of France. mmm Glui The German Club, under the capable supervision of Fraulein Pianca, has completed an- other in its long history of successful years. The activities of the club consist of programs put on by the members of der Deutschewerein. The students sang, recited passages and conversed in German. After we finished reading Emile und dei Detektivef' Miss Pianca baked one of her famous and delicious Apfelkuchen for us. Fraulein Pianca's interesting and inspiring talks about Germany have cultivated an earnest desire in us to visit this beautiful ccuntry. We have achieved a knowledge not only of the German language but also of the customs and habits of the German People. The 1951 officers Were: Vincent Lioce, President, losephine Tumulo, Vice-President, Lois Grillo, Secretary, and Ann Pilla, Treasurer. Meetings were held once a month to plan the clubs' activities. The Dante Club held its annual spring dance in the latter part of April. All of the club members and most of the first year Italian students attended this special Saturday-night so- cial. The auditorium was gaily decorated in the colors of Italian pageantry. Refreshments were served by Ann Pilla, Marilyn Tessicini, losephine Tumulo, and Barbara DiVittorio, and a good time was had by all. l The senior members of the Club made a trip to Boston on April ll to see the beautiful per- formance of Bossinis ll Barbiere Di Siviglia' presented in the Boston Opera House by many distinguished performers. The leading singers were Miss Lily Pons, a soprano, and Mr. Baccaloni, a baritone, both of the Metro- politan Opera Company. The purpose of this ltalian Club is to learn about the customs, the rich culture, and the glorious history of ltaly. Under the capable leadership of Mr. DiBattista, we Worked hard to achieve this goal. Qlee em The Milford High School Cflee Club was featured in the Christmas pageant by the Student Council. The program, beautifully conceived and directed by Mr. Alex DiCfiannantonio, presented the Christmas story. The stage setting of the Manger scene surrounded by the Wise Men and Shepherds was a superb accomplishment. The Glee Club sang several Christmas songs, with Amy Benoit, Shirley Whitney, and Marie Ricci presenting solos. During the holidays the Glee Club sang with the Stacy School Chorus at the Christmas Carol community singing at the Town Library. The Glee Club is the latest addition to the musical organizations of the High School and its future looms brightly. 114. J. S. Bam! The Milford High School Band, under the expert direction of Mr. Ben C. Lancisi, achieved again this year it goal of perfection in music and appearance. lts fine co-ordination was shown in a contest in Worcester where it won a S100 prize. As usual our band Was in demand for every important activity in Milford and nearby towns. The efforts were highly applauded at the M.H.S. football games, the Timmy Fund Parade in Medfield, the HalloWe'en and Armistice Day parades in Milford, the dedication of the Sacred Heart School, and the memorial dedication at Prospect Heights. During the Christmas season, the band participated in the Santa Claus parade, and on Christmas Eve they played carols in Milford and Hopedale. One of the year's biggest successes was scored when the band represented Fordham Prep School at a night football game in Clinton. The annual M.H.S. Band Concert held in May was acclaimed by the audience as one of the best ever produced by Ben Lancisi. Two of the featured numbers were Sleigh Hide and Tzena, Tzenaf' loseph Oneschulc gave a trumpet solo, and a small group of girls and boys rendered musical selections. ln the latter part of the year, the band attended the Central Massachusetts Music Fes- tival in Leominster and was one of the outstanding participants in the day's activities. Dur- ing this part of the year, they also played at the flag raising ceremonies in Milford and Hopedale commemorating the opening of the baseball season, and in the Memorial Day Pa- rade. To celebrate their succesful year, the band attended several Pops Concerts in Boston with their director. 35 -gg . I Hui! Senior Members oi the Band Ben Lancisi and Three Seniors lllw, Mindlael Shaw With the opening strains of T Know That You Know, sung by the versatile Carol Tre- deau, the Fourteenth Annual Minstrel Show was underway. After the endrnen made their entrance in Ernie Pellegrini's microscopic Baby Austin, the interlocutor, Prichard Eoglio, welcomed the audience and introduced the first specialty singer, Arny Benoit. Our endmen, loe Oneschuk, Ed Tighe, Ernie Pellegrini, loe Stocio, Dick lnnis, and Bob Morrill stole the show with their hilarious jokes and songs. Duke Earese brought down the roof with his outstanding skits, and Mary Berardi and Ernie Mastroianni surprised us with their fine imita- tion of TV stars, Sid Caesar and Imogene Coca. Qther talented soloists who did a marvelous job were Zarouhi Sarkisian, Lillian De Manche, Ernie Mastroianni, and Mary Berardi, who sang a novelty number. Special skits were pre- sented by Dickie Zallen, Marvin Levine, Hank Vilenski, Bob Wassarman, Marilyn Tessicini, Barbara Di Vittorio, Elaine Dion, Salvatore Cirnino, Al Rossetti, Tony Gogliomella, Babs Lu- chini, Elvira Tessicini, Bernie Klem, and Bobby Marino. The chorus received much acclaim for the wonderful job they did of accompanying the entertainers. lt was widely agreed that Ben Lancisi, our director and pianist, outdid himself this year by producing the most succesful Minstrel Show ever put on by the students of Milford High. Sfacfenl' Gonna!! The Milford l-ligh School Student Association was formed again this year with a member- ship enrollment of 9973. The association is made up of those members who pay 3l.25 dues per year. The association is governed by the Student Council which consists of all the class officers, eight members-at-large and a home-room representative from each home-room. The council also has four officers of its own Who are elected by the entire student body each year. The council conducted many socials and also sponsored four assembly programs. Each and every program and social was thoroughly enjoyed by the students. The asso- ciation also sends baskets to ill members and spiritual bouquets when there is a death in the immediate family of a members. Miss Gloria Vasile, the first Girls' Physical Education lnstructor in the history of the school, did a fine job in putting together a team. Most of the girls had had little or no previous experience. Both Varsity and Iunior Varsity teams were chosen and a schedule of eight games was played. Although the girls came up with only one win in eight games their spirit and determination never faltered. Most of the teams the inexperi- enced M. H. S. girls played, are entered in a league and have been playing for several years. Many of the games were quite exciting and many were heartbreaking, especially the teams first encounter with Southboro, in which our girls lost by only one basket, and the last game with Medway. ln this game, only one point made the difference. On the Varsity team the senior girls walked away with all but one of the starting positions. Captain Kay Forbes and Io Tumolo together with Freshman Louise Giacomelli did a fine job of racking up points. While Marilyn Tessecini, Evelyn Luchini and Dorothy Manguso, our capable and determined guards, gave the opposing teams' forwards much trouble. lean LaPreste and lean Gandolfi also saw action with the Varsity. Iona Lenares captained the I. V. team. The Girls' Basketball season went by much too fast and though the l95l season was not especially successful in regard to victories, the spirit and determination of the girls, coupled with experience received this year will enable the returning veterans to have a more successful season next year. f WN? ix 43' 7 A. Milford High School is proud to send Ronald Pagnini to the State House in Boston to represent our school this year. Swift Cratorical Contest has been one of the major events on the senior calendar. This year was the twenty-fifth and last year that this event will take place at Milford High School. To celebrate this important occasion the con- test was even more excellent in quality and in- terest than in previous years. The five girls and two boys whose essays were chosen as the best in the senior class were: Marie Barlow, Marilyn Cogen, Gerard Cugini, Barbara DiVit- torio, Helen Fink, Richard lnnis, and Arva Rosenfeld. These students were aided in pre- paring the contents and deliverance of their speeches by Dr. Marion Ryan and Miss Sadie Q'Connell. The subjects chosen were varied, but all con- cerned the Constitution of the United States of America. Each contestant delivered his speech in the Lynch Auditorium on lanuary 28 before all should be commended on a fine job done. the faculty, and this year the boys captured the honors. Gerard Cugini was voted the winner and Richard fnnis won the second prize. Gerard was awarded a gold medal at the graduation exercises. The winner of this contest was also the winner of the local American Legion contest, and Gerard went on to win the district finals and the county finals. His excellent speech won great honors for his school, his town, and himself. if ,dwarf SZ V v 2 , f WMF ' si I N4 . 4 kj fz f' f l , 5 X wi N f 1 I f Q ,Q fda f ff: fxfa ig?
