Each year a series of four assemblies is held in the auditorium. These assemblies are chosen by a Program Committee. This year four of the best assemblies ever presented at the school were witnessed. An eager audience was hushed when the President of our Association, Leonard Rago, came upon the stage to introduce our first program of the year. Amid the applause of the excited audience, the curtain rose on The Conservatory Players. The program that followed proved to be very interesting. These five people presented a two act play entitled: The Importance of Being Earnest, which was enjoyed by all because of its comical incidents and its literary value. Adventures and thrills constituted the theme of our next assembly. Captain lames Colette, related his adventures behind the enemy lines in Germany and italy. Intrigue Behind The Lines, filled with humor and excitement, kept the audience either laughing to hysterics or on the edge of their chairs. The officers were Regina Bianchi, President, Rita Berardi, Vice-president, lean Mor- ganelli, Secretary, Leonard Rago, Treasurer. While reading a favorite novel, entitled, Emil und die Detektivef' a cake, which in German is apfelkuchen, was mentioned. To our delight and surprise our beloved Fraulein brought us a sample of this delicious delicacy. At Christmas time we were all invited to a party at her home. lt certainly turned out to be some party! There Was enough food to feed the Whole German Army. We marvelled at the glass Christmas tree decorated with gum drops and various kinds of fancy Christmas candy underneath it and Chocolate Santa Clauses all around it. The German Club is grateful to Fraulein Pianca for all she has done, and will remember her always as being helpful and kind. '7Ae 640160 Glad '7fne fbmzfe G ai Once again the Dante Club completes a successful year, under the capable supervision of Mr. Gabriel DiBattista. The first meeting was on November l8, lQ1l9, when the election of officers took place. Those elected were: Attilio Cfiammarco, Presidentg Catherine Liberto, Vice- President: Rose Creasia, Secretaryg Grace Volpe, Treasurer. With money collected from dues, the club held its annual dance in the early part of May. Largely through Mr. Di Battista's efforts the Dante Club has offered opportunities for the study of ltalian, and we know the classes to follow us will continue to find this club pleasant and profitable. The lunior Science Club was reorganized in this, its twentieth year, under the supervision of Mrf Fred Metcalf. Cur club proved to be, as in all previous years, a tremendous success, This year began excellently with the election of capable officers: President, David Luziettig Vice-President, Anthony DiNardog Secretary, Harry Germagiang Treasurer, Richard lnnis. The chief aim of the club is to stimulate an interest in science. The enthusiasm shown by the members in conducting their individual experiments at meetings clearly illustrates the fulfillment of this purpose. Another phase of our meetings which was looked forward to by all were the movies on subjects relative to recent scientific developments. The members of the lunior Science Club will always be grateful to Mr. Metcalf. ln future years we shall think of him with none but the fondest regard. 743 aniofz. gcience Glad .fidaaaq 14 Midland The annual lohn E. We in lffze Ban Milford may be justly proud of its high school band. Under the direction of Mr. Lancisi, the band in the past few years has made itself well known in central Massachusetts. lt certainly ranks as one of the finest small school bands in the state. This year the band played at most of our football games, their appearance was the subject of many laudatory comments. In October the group was selected to play at the Meadows in Framingham, for part of the Convention of The National Association of Truck Cwners, an or- ganization composed of the executives of larger trucking concerns of the nation. During the Christmas season part of the band played in the shopping district, at rest homes and hospitals, and many private homes throughout the town. ln May the band gave its annual concert before a large audience. lt was an all request programg several of the selections played were: Stardust, Rhapsody in Blue, South of the Rio, and Selections from Showboat. Cn May 20, the Central Massachuseits Music Festival was held in Milford, and our band was one of the lead- ing participating groups. um, Pwfoam in am Mimjad Shaw .... 7!147LZ66!'tzA Hamm! Miwlael Sfzow The zero hour struck, the lights were dimmed by Bob Niro, Ben Lancisi sat down at his piano and our interlocutor, Dick Collins, straightened his collar for the urnteenth time. A hush fell over the audience as the strains of the piano music penetrated their ears, Three lovely lasses stepped from behind the curtain and began their sonnet about the show. Thus on the night of December 14, l949 the THIRTEENTH ANNUAL MINSTREL SHOW was under Way. After the endrnen made their entrance from the back of the stage and sang their little song, suppos- edly in unison, Dick Collins greeted the audience. The first number POWDER YOUR FACE WITH SUNSHINE. Was sung by one of our '50 'ers, Arlene Pillarella, assisted by a Well-drilled chorus. The end- men managed to get their jokes in between acts. An accordian solo was rendered by Frank Milani. A medley of songs from Showboat presented by Lillian DeManche, Rico Niro, and Carol Trudeau was one of the highlights of the presentation. Special skits were presented by Earl Nelson, Duke Farese, Bob Niro, Harely Breault, and Ernie Pellegrini. One of the outstanding numbers was an imitation of Sid Stone by Anthony DiNardo assisted by Rudy lacovelli. The endmen, all of whom rendered vocal solos, were Eddie Trant, Bob Melpignano, Gus Diotelevi, Rico Niro, Paul Areano and Snooky Bertonazzi. Ernie Mastronianni gave a marvelous impersonation of Enzio Pinza singing SOME ENCHANTED EVENING. lohnny Villani was really terrific with his harmonica solo and his impersonation of the lnk Spots singing YOU WERE ONLY FOOLING. With the entrance of Goldberg's Shamrocks, a band made up entirely of the lewish members of the Ml-l.S. band, the audience began to roll in the aisles. The annual lunior Prom conducted this year by the class of l95l has again proved a tre- mendous success. On the evening oi April 15th, seventy-seven couples crowded our auditor- ium to dance to the music oi Ben Lancisi's orchestra. The setting was unique, to say the least. Nervous escorts, Cincidentally, mostly newly licensed driversl after parking the family cars ever so cautiously, directed their charming dates in to a realistic South Pacific scene. The native dancing girls seemed almost to be danc- ing on their perches about the roorn. Gayly colored decorations further accented the many lovely gowns. The grand march was led by President Gerard Cugini and Chairman Ronald Pagnini assist- ted by the other otlicers and members oi the committee. Many of the seniors were present. The spirit of the team has always been willing, but there have been several occasions where this spirit was not quite enough. Playing teams like Natick and Framingham demands big, fast men who have a will to win. Pupils who would have made good football players did not come out for the team. ln a school such as ours the job of accomplishing success is everybody's business. No one person or group of persons can achieve this goal without the aid and support of everyone in the organization. The season started off rather well. Captain Sonny Tomaso was a defensive standout in our 27-7 victory over North Attleboro. Then followed a series of de- feats at the hand of powerful rivals. Some solace was gained by our victory over St. Mary's in the final game at Fino Field. - Next year's prospects include foe Stocio and Eddie Tighe. ln spring practice several other prospects looked good. The team will be as good however as the support given it by the students. The classes which follow ours can profit by our experience and achieve success by dint of hard work and a search for the will to win. .. . g i l , V I f , nm T.. yr-W - 'l 4 ,am ,4 .riiztvffik if av! 1 i 'FL X 1 - X A X M if-'WV .l l'l ' W September October October October October November November November November qaolfiall 7949 Milford at No. Attleboro Natick at Milford Milford at Marlboro Clinton at Milford Franklin at Milford Milford at Webster Milford at Framingham Maynard at Milford St. Mar'y s Z7-7 O-34 U-47 6-27 O-18 O-27 33-0 40-6 25-6 C f ffifzgjf UWM Ill' I I 'wx A ,XF PNUL Basketball at Milford High School has been a major sport for many years. This year the team climaxed a successful season by defeating St. Mary's. Sonny Kearnan became a hero by sinking two precious points to win the final game 37-36. Lou Giamarco and Bob Melpignano were consistently high scorers with Stocio and Kearnan tossing in important points in crucial games. Coach I. Francis Cahill had words of praise for all members of the squad and he looks forward to successful seasons guiding those who this year were our lunior Varsity. The loss of such players as Melpignano, Kearnan and Giamar- co will be felt severely.
