Joe Jennelle The general concept is that crowds are bad, but I don't believe so. Riding to games on buses is a real bother. The kids always ask for the radio but they talk and sing at the same time. . . . I find crowds distasteful. A. Markowitz. 2 PRACTICE . . It's something people do when they don't know what they're doing. A. Markow- itz. Practice? It makes my parents mad when I come home late for dinner. They're for those who have an interest in making this a well-rounded school. . . We need more club participation and more ideas. Gary Pearce . There is so much to do, that you don't know what to do. Glenn Moyer. 12 Mary Ellen Greenly Gary Wray Dan McGinniss Donald Yost Among the classes I've been to observe 1 would say in some, not all, 1 notice a cer- tain amount of passiveness. Kids are apa- thetic. It's not just the kids fault. I don't think the students at MHS are really chal- lenged. Gary Wray. There are only two types of students I get to know, either the extremely good or the extremely bad. It's very difficult for a principal to know what goes on in a classroom. Glenn Moyer. They get around to the point later. Dana Erney If I'm bogged down I can't be sensitive to a student coming in to see me. I don't like routines, but its hard to adjust a class without them. European classes are more like col- leges. This makes them exciting. Mrs. Dibble. I get into a rut if I fail to get the right responses. Mr. Wonderly . . . 'I dislike desks in rows. Students should look each other in the eye. Miss Janet Helm Mrs. Rose Ann Wheatley We had modern dance and physical fitness tests so we didn't get into a rut. The girls break their routine by skipping showers when I'm not looking. Health class becomes routine because we get tired of watch- ing films. Miss Helm. 21 GYM AND DRIVERS ED. ART AND MUSIC John Kunkle Arturo Bassols Mrs. Barbara Gallagher DISTRIBUTIVE EDUCATION We try to teach and prepare students to learn a decent way of living. Students don't try to think for themselves. They like to be told what to do. We have the best business facilities and students take good advantage of them. Mr. Parsons Kids don t like the in- creased surveillance. If the class is presented in the right way there would be no cutting problem. Mr. Wonderly The trouble with the system is the teachers are always a generation behind. Mr. Joy I can say some- thing about the mud. That's construction, but it's advancement, too. Mr. Lawson Parents want to see high grades. They don't care what they learn. Mr. Woehrle I'd like to see the R and RS type lable removed. I don t like to see kids branded. Mr. Erney. 25 I think everyone in the school pushes us around because we re new. Kids think we re dumb. 'I feel I'm not trusted because I'm an underclassman. Milford is a lot more modern than any other school around. . . I'd like school if it started later. I think the most interesting part of school life is meeting people. Ed Burlin- game You feel like you are superior. Ramona Rivera 84 ilM i LIBRARY CLUB ' Kids are so careless, it makes you really feel sorry for those who want a well- organized library. Being in library science consists of routine jobs. You learn the wheres and whys of the library. Linda Biles ... I enjoy working in the library, you get to meet so many of the people and teachers in this school. . . . Attention: IMPORTANT NOTE. All club members names can be found listed in the Club Directory on pages 206 and 207. 85 D.E.C.A., ... I get to go out in an actual job experience which helps me decide what I want to go into. I learn the techniques of business. I think Mrs. Gallagher is the primary reason the club is so good. The second year students worked hard all year for competition. 86 O.E.A., . .. We've had clothing drives for the children in the Appal- achian Mountains. We are setting up a type of mini-mall in the Blue Hen Mall in Dover. We'll work in it also. I don't think anyone expects professional journal- ism from us, but I'd say the quality of our paper is above average. Deadlines come very fast. Every one gets moody and irritable as it draws closer. It seems to be just a lot of deadlines, but the finished book makes it all worthwhile. I think Jody and I be- came so tired of interviewing for copy, we were almost doing it in our sleep. We're going to start buying our own equipment because it would take too long if we paid dues. We want to get tournnaments be- tween schools and have a team. Randy Jackson. 96 BLACK STUDIES . .. We try to give students knowledge of what the Black man has contributed to our country. We are in the process of putting a play together to be presented in April. We have only Black members, but we'd like to have some White members. Barbara Warren. 97 HONOR SOCIETY ... It looks good for criteria. When I think of Honor Society I think of some one smarter than normal. But everyone is in it now. We have a tutoring service, but nobody ever uses it. I think we should be an active club, but I don't know what we would do. Peggy Schular. 98 VARSITY CLUB It's the only service organization. We work at every sports event. Gary Pearce . It's a good club, but there's too much work. The longer you are in it, the more they make you work and the less you like it. Joe Wells . . . 99 SCIENCE CLUB There are a lot of guest speakers who speak on dif- ferent phases of science. A lot of kids in the club aren't really science minded.'' Ginny Wise . . We took a trip to the F.B.I. lab and learned how they try to solve crimes. If we had more money we could do more things. Ian Harrington. 10O F.F.A., We do real work in the fields. We also work around the town and build up a reputation for the school. We received first in the state in Agri-Business. We had a 1 Poultry Judging Team and we won a trip to Kansas. Larry Warner. 101 F.T.A....... You see how teachers work and what methods they use and what problems are at other schools. Maybe if we participate in actual teaching we might benefit more. David Sammons. We do this so that we have an idea of what we're getting ourselves into. 102 A.F.S., Being in A.F.S. means a lot more to me now that I've traveled to so many coun- tries. K. Sorknes ... I think it is a worthwhile club but it would be better if we could get more participation from the student body. There was no participation from the guys and it's not just a club for girls. It's a lot of fun because you get to know kids from other countries when all the students from Delaware come to Milford. J. Reichhold. 103 DRAMA . . Before I go on stage I get so scared that I'm sick. But once I get out there I feel confident because the audi- ence believes anything I say. It's like being another person in another world. I always feel I could have done much better. I wish Milford was more serious about drama. QUILL AND SCROLL . . We think it's very exciting to publish student and faculty work. We learn things about people that we never knew before. It's surprising to discov- er all the unknown talent that's hidden in the school. 104 ARCHEOLOGY .. The best place to search for ar- rowheads are freshly- plowed fields. One time we found chips of pottery and a quartz tool in the sifter. We fan out in twos and threes and just scout the field. It's a learning experience for ev- erybody. We had specialists come and evaluate our find- ings. Peggy Simpson 105 BAND . Who knocks the band? Those who have no part of it. I've yet to hear a football player say the band stunk at a game. Baseball is an easy sport practice-wise. Charles Timmons 117 We practice too much. I think our team is pretty well organized and well-balanced. 1 never worry about getting nervous during a game. Lynn McColley Hitting practice just doesn't follow a game situation. In the field you have your own responsibilities. Laurel Lil.Ol J I don't like having to break our running time of the day before. I like the challenge of tennis. In singles you don't have to worry about some- one else messing up. Doubles is fun, but singles requires more work on your part. Ann Harrington Running the track is supposed to do you good. But all it does is make your legs sore. In doubles if you make a mistake there's someone to back you up. Still, there isn't much team- work, even in doubles. Penny Lofland. 124 Track is endurance. The 440 is the hardest event. You must put out the whole way. Track isn't popular because there's not enough violence. You must set goals to reach. Lou Guisto Track is an individ- ual sport, so it's up to the individual to discipline himself. Darrald Gibson I guess more guys don't go out for pole-vaulting because they're afraid they might get hurt. If you miss the mat, it hurts. 1 think meets don't move fast enough.' Bill Eisenbrey. ,4 GOLF The biggest thrill is to knock the heck out of a ball and watch it go 250 yards. We start practice in March and wear so many clothes we can hardly swing the club. Joe Wells . 'The schoolboard is a good service to the community and spends many a late hour together. It's a challenge to serve the youth. Too many kids graduate and are dumped into the world. The school- board has approved such programs as Special Education and Vo-Tec. We need one of the young people on the board as a member or a junior member. We need their point of view. You'd be surprised at how many times we turn around and ask them questions. In my area we need- ed a schoolboard representative, but not that many peo- ple were interested. Mrs. Betty Jo Carter. 146 'The schoolboard tries to get us the best education possible. This year it started evaluating teachers and passed the new English curriculum. It allowed students to smoke in school and realized that seniors shouldn t have to take exams. There's not as much backwardness on our schoolboard as there is in other school districts. The public has the opportuni- ty to be at meetings, but there is still a lack of communication. Ian Harrington 147 IF A MAN ANSWERS You have to develop the character so it will be funny to the people. If you don’t make the character real the audience will be laughing at you instead of the lines. A good laugh from the crowd encourages you to go on, but the audience missed alot of laugh lines in If A Man Answers. After you work all that time and only give two performances you wish you could go on. And when the people laughed I thought I'd jump out of my skin. I forgot there was an audience out there. I think this town is more used to comedies than heavy dra- mas. Debbie Layton 148 SUMMERTREE Drama rehearsals are alot stricter than comedy re- hearsals. In Summertree we had to put across a theme to the audience. From the way the high school audience left the auditorium, you could tell we hit home. The adult reaction was quieter. Parents saw their qualities in Jackie and I. The soldier symbolized what causes peo- ple to act the way they do. Every audience had to face the fact that this tragedy could happen to them. Gene Beebe. 149 150 The great thing about a musical is that it makes people happy. Once you get started in acting you don't want to stop. The Oriental set- ting made the play glitter. My favorite part of the play was the polka. The worst part was learning it. The King was difficult to play be- cause he was so stubborn and heartless. That's what made him so strong. Richard Sharp. 152 Becoming Homecoming Queen seems to be many senior girls dream. The wait was so suspenseful and exciting. I could hardly believe it when I heard my name announced as queen. It was a very beautiful night and a memorable experience for me. Annie Waples . I've got a mind of my own and I voted for the one I liked the best. Bob Sparklin. 153 CONCERTS ... 'T enjoy chorus be- cause everyone gets along with Mr. Hutchins. He always picks up-to-date music for us. This spring concert was the best ever. Wilhelmina Watson The chorus and band worked very hard for this concert. Maybe if it was advertized there'd be more of an audi- ence. Sylvia Whaley The stu- dents that are interested in music are great people. When everyone in the chorus contributes their voice to a par- ticular tune they can really sound great. Mr. Hutchins .. The best part of the Spring Concert was Brooke Philips. Our band is about the same as other bands, but Mr. Hutchins adds a special touch. John Masten. 154 The band was pretty good. We worked awfully hard, too. We try to play music that appeals to every- one. It appears that nobody's interested in music. There seems to be a limited knowledge of it around here. 1 think Milford is losing a good band director. Pam Bailey The best thing was the student reac- tion to the concert. I think they liked it. Sylvia Whalen. 155 Prom I thought the decorations looked really nice. The committee that worked on the prom did a good job. The band was good and the kids conducted themselves very well.'' Jeff Laramore I thought this prom was fantastic. The en- trance was the best part. 1 enjoyed watching Mr. and Mrs. Moyer jitter- bug.'' Rosie Simpson . Some people don't realize how much work goes into a prom. We worked from October to May 15 and if it hadn't been for Mr. Bassols we'd have never gotten finished.'' Jody Patterson The pictures were all messed up because the photographer wasn't organized. The band was much better than last year if you like that kind of music.
