We, the Class of 1970, dedicate our Milfordian to all those who have made Milford High what it is and to those who will continue to strive, build, and watch it grow. r,MILFORD H Milford, 1929 Moving Ste Things are always changing. M.H.S. is no exception. Though this building is old and tired, the spirit of M.H.S., her warmth and vitality, will live on when M.H.S. moves next Fall into the much-needed new building. An end is coming but with it a new beginning. More than ever M.H.S. is Moving Forward. The past is gone and of little concern, but the ever-present future draws the student body forward, taunting each student to strive for excellence in every aspect of his life. 2 — Introduction Expansion has taken place at M.H.S. New courses like advanced Biology have been made available. A new Administration building was opened down the street to allow much-needed classroom space. We now have a well-equipped Marine Biology lab; and new faces like Mr. Joy's in the faculty. 4 — Introduction Expansion was also evident in the long-awaited return of Mr. Wizard Gussett. Other evidence was the expand- ed population, especially during class changes, but the crowded conditions haven't prevented the steady forward pro- gress of life at M.H.S. as we prepare for a season of moving higher in sports. Introduction — 5 Along with colder weather. Fall brought new faces into the strange world of high school and old faces returning to the same all too familiar world. The fall months brought about a transition from the leisurely unorganized pace of summer into the world of regu- lations and order. Fall at Milford High means the beginning of many things - dances, athletics, dub activities and, of course, (ugh) studying. In the few autumn months the pace of the school year was established and the long walk toward June was begun. -■ K September was the beginning of the end for the class of '70. The familiar routine was re-established after three months of freedom and the first vestiges of senioritis became apparent. While one class was headed for graduation, the other three returned to resume their studies and life at M.H.S. There were pep rallies, student elections, schedule changes, and Mr. Moyer wondering if we would ever make it. 8 — September FRESHMEN Enter the class of '73 with new dreams and better ideas, headed toward the future with all the characteristic vitality of frantic Freshmen on the road to becoming silly Sophomores. Freshmen . . . Freshmen . . . Freshmen, all 327 of them! Each attempting the transition from a life without responsibility to mature young adults. The freshmen took part in the home- coming parade and provided a healthy cheering section at all pep rallies and games. The Class of '73 is one of action and determination-an asset to Milford Senior High School. We are privileged to have an administrative staff concerned with preparing M.H.S. to become an even better place to receive an education. Through the continued efforts of our Principal, Mr. Glenn M. Moyer, many things have happened at MHS and will happen next year. Human rela- tions have made significant advances, a new school is under construction and new educational meth- ods have been established. Mr. Moyer received his Bachelor of Science degree from Penn State Uni- versity and later received his master of Education degree from Lehigh University. Mr. Leonard I. Hill, our Assistant Principal, received his Bachelor of Science degree at Concord College and completed his graduate work at the University of Delaware, receiving his Master of Education. Mr. Hill is a conscientious, progressive educator with an eye on the future of MHS. Athletics at MHS owe a debt of graditude to Mr. Bernard E. Briggs, our Athletic Director. Mr. Briggs is a graduate from Penn State University, receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree. A gradu- ate of Milford High School himself, he has pro- vided years of invaluable service to its student body. 16 — Administration Dr. Charles A. McLaughlin Dr. Charles A. McLaughlin arrived in Milford this fall from Pennsylvania to take up his duties as Superintendent of the Milford School District. Dr. Mc- Laughlin is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and received his doctorate in June of 1969. Mr. Chester T. Dickerson, Adminis- trative Assistant, attended Virginia State Teachers College and did graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania where he received a Master of Science degree. Mr. Willard W. Hickman, Director of Instruction, attended Washington Col- lege where he completed his Master of Arts degree. Chester T. Dickerson Willard W. Hickman Administration — 17 Claud L. As the month progressed, the Flemish Trio visited us and we lost a bell to Lake Forrest in a close game on Thanksgiving Day. NOVEMBER Winter arrived with the bluster of the first snow- storm and the fury of another Buc basketball season. The halfway mark of the year was about to be reached, and the pace of the school year settled down to a lazy type of expectance of things to come. 'V • . DECEMBER December was filled with the excitement of the Sadie Hawkins Dance, sponsored by our active Pep Club. The Pep Club is devoted to forming pep rallies, making signs and, in general, promoting the success of all MHS teams. December also saw the comedy success, Onions in the Stew , starring Kathi Laremore and Ken Lewis. Majorettes! Flagettes! - Is r •'4'' A Drum Major! This year we were fortunate to have a Student Council devoted to making signifi- cant changes and bringing new ideas to MHS. The major advance of the year was the adoption of a new, adequate constitu- tion, which was the product of a lot of hard work. The Council was active in a lot of other ways, like helping to promote the holiday spirit by decorating the school Christmas tree. 48 - Student Council FRENCH CLUB Mrs. Grace Dibble A. M. To achieve these aims, the English teachers must be aware of the wide range of backgrounds among the students entering high school, from near illiteracy to a high level of language proficiency, and, through a con- stantly evolving and flexible program, increase the competency of these students in the three major areas of English: language, composition, and litera- ture. Our primary objec- tive in the math department here at MHS is two fold: (1) to provide a flexible program of general mathematics which will develop competence in meeting ordinary life situations, and (2) to lay a dependable foundation for subsequent courses in math for those students who wish to pursue a mathematics education in college. This year to help meet this objective the math curricu- lum has been extensively reviewed, resulting in the revision of many courses and the addition of an advanced math course for college-bound seniors. Messick, See. 90 — Drama Club A DSN Review 'Annie Get Your Gun’ Cited As 'Best Ever’ By JIM SCHMIDT DSN News Editor I know I’m risking the wrath of a dozen or so high schools in lower Delaware, but still I have to say it: The production of ‘‘AnnieGet Your Gun”, which opened last night at Milford High School, is the best high school musical I’ve ever seen in this area. You don’t expect to find a Broadway cast headed by Ethel Merman in a high school, but there were times during last night’s production that you for- got these players weren’t pro- fessionals. True, the show is blessed with some great Irving Berlin tunes -- Doin’ What Comes Na- tur'lly, The Girl That I Mar- ry, There’s No Business Like Show Business, They Say Wonderful, Anything Yoi Do, I Can Do Better.” But, even great music to be well done. It night. Jackie LaGuardia.who Annie Oakley, put as much and action into the part Merman ever hoped to can’t belt ou’ a tune a-k man, but her voice wasei adequate and, at times, ingly beautiful. Mike Layton, who Frank Butler, looked and every inch of the egotistical heel that he posed tobe.andhis plemented that of Mi Guardia very well. What struck me w: plete aplomb with of them carried out their Miss La Guardia, in parti seemed to be at hot stage. She acted and she were having bounced through her song bounce was needed, and said and wistful when needed.
