FOREWARD In 1066 (a memorable year, as every student of world history knows) Duke William of Normandy defeated the Anglo-Saxons at Hastings and began a new era in history. This book is a pictorial record of another memorable year, 1966, and all of that studying, listening, playing, ETV, testing and all of the other good and bad things that make any school year at once unique and typical. She is a valuable asset to our school and deserving of recognition. The yearbook staff dedicates the 1966 Milfordian to a dedicated teacher--Miss Jane Herson. I would like to extend my congratulations to the Senior Class and to the Yearbook Staff of the Milfordian. It seems like such a short time ago I had the pleasure of teaching most of you while you were in the Junior High. During these five years you have grown in many ways. It has been my pleasure to have been associated with you both as a teacher and as Principal. Best wishes to you as you pursue your future goals. Sincerely, Mr. Teeraan P. It seems that the time has gone so fast, too fast for me, since I first came to Milford. I have learned so much here, not only in school, but also about America and the American people, and every day here, has had new experiences for me. I remember my first school day here as if it were today—everything was new and strange to me then, but now Milford High School has become my School and I love it. All of you have been so nice and friendly to me, and I want to say a special word for my teachers who have all been so kind and helpful. This year in the United States has been such a great experience for me, and I am sure that I shall never regret my coming here, whatever may happen. It will be one of the lasting memories in my life . . . I haven't been homesick one single day, but I don't want to think about leaving, because I know that I will be then . . . I want to say thank you with all my heart to all of you, to my wonderful and dear family, to all my friends, to all the very, very nice people I have met here, and to everybody who has made the won- derful year in America possible for me — thank you very, very much . . . Christiane Nockels Now my year in the United States is nearly over, and never homesick in Milford, I know that back in Berlin I will be homesick for America, Milford, and all my American friends. I remembervery well how much I had always longed to go to the U.S. that country we Germans feel especially connected to. My curiosity grew when I saw President Kennedy in Berlin. In his always remembered speech to the Berliners he said: I am an American! Only for one year it was literally true, but for all my life I will have the same deep feeling. For one year I could be happy in the U.S., learn so many things about your country and your A- merican way of life. For these marvellous, everlasting memories I thank you all very, very much. With all my heart I thank all those who made it possible for me to come here to this wonderful country: my beloved American par- ents, my sisters, all the teachers of my dear Milford High School who were always so espe- cially nice and helpful, and all other Milfordians whom I enjoyed so much to meet. I would like to mention so many many names in particular the names of all my friends whom I love so much. Never I would have believed to really find a second home in the U.S. I know that although parting, I will leave at least half of my heart here. With all my love I can only say, Auf Wiedersehen in Berlin Yours always, Elfi Kettner 54 Senior Class Play PRIDE AND PREJUDICE Pride and Prejudice” is a romantic comedy in three acts by Jane Kendall. All human emo- tions were displayed by characters as they de- picted the life of a late 18th century English fam- ily. As a scheming mother, Mrs. Bennet, tried to get her five daughters successfully married. Excitement, frustration, anger, and jealousy a- rose. This soon changed to expedition which end- ed in disappointment and pathos and sorrow. Mrs. Bennet finally obtained her goal in life when her five daughters were married or engaged. From that moment on, minor technical difficulties arose one by one, and sometimes three by four. To prevent a complete lack of exper- ience in the future staffs, we added two jun- ior trainees to our staff. After selecting our theme 1966 and All That , we began the man to man combat of the Battle of the Yearbook, commemorating the Battle of Hastings. At the conclusion of this era of picture-taking, deadline making (?), write-up writing, and of our long hard hours we present to you the best of 1966 and all that which has made this year an outstanding one. Music, in all forms, has always been a part of the life of Milford High School. This year, under the able direction of Mr. William Miller, the chorus has presented the annual Christmas program, and pro- vided music at other functions including the Baccalaureate service and Commence- ment exercises. Mr. Miller 87 BAND DRUM MAJOR DRUM MAJORETTE MAJORETTES E. Hamilton, K. Pierce, C. Gill, J. Emory, K. Hitchens The drum major blows his whistle, the trumpets sound their fanfare, and on comes the Milford High School Band. This smart- looking sixty-four piece band performs and plays at all football games. During the marching season, they attend many parades, including the State Firemen's Conventions, the Halloween and Memorial Day parades. The band also contributes to the gala fes- tivities of the Hospital Fair. At the end of the football season, the marching band removes its parade jackets to reveal its tuxedo-style concert uniform. A great variety of music is played at the annual concert. As graduation draws near, the concert band prepares music for the Commencement exercises. Summer will find many band members continuing their study of music and prepar- ing for a new football season. 89 CONCERT BAND ROW ONE: K. Pearce, J. Emory, B. Frankel, J. Watson, S. Callaway. Varsity Football Squad looked as if it was headed for a fine season after its 12-0 victory over a strong Georgetown team in its first game. After this vic- tory the team, plagued by inexperience, lack of depth, and injuries, commenced to lose its next 4 games before defeating Lewes at home on October 22, 14-12. After that victory the team fell back into a losing pattern, losing its final 3 games and ending the season with a 2-7 record. The experience gained by the Junior members of the squad helped brighten the dismal sea- son by the promise of a fine team next year.
