Milford High School The 1963 Milfordian is compiled by stu- dents you know for you. It is a record of an important year of your life. Here you will find your school, your classmates and friends, and your activities. Feeling that our annual can fulfill no higher purpose than to help you re- call this memorable year, we now present The 1963 Milfordian to you, the students and friends of Milford High School. Page 111 The 1963 Milfordian is dedicated to the American Field Service in grateful appreciation for the many benefits and opportunities it has of- fered to the students of Milford High School. We believe that this poem written by Efi Salvari expresses this feeling of gratitude . . . Like happy birds in the sky, All together we do fly, Over mountains, towns, and seas, To reach this country, Where everything is really lovely, To live one year, like a dream. But between all this beauty, We have a wonderful duty, Which we always do with love, To be more proud every day And to thank God, and to pray For our new family--The A. F.S. 4 Neat Lab?? Dickerson, Secretary, Joseph O. Penuel, Max R. Corder, President, George A. Robbins, Vice-President, and Joseph Wright. 10 We grow and develop through the appli- cation ofaworking democracy. Let us pause for the refreshment of a collective, intelligent and democratic process and re- new our faith in our public schools. Let us call for pupils, teachers, and all others to work together to gain new and better under- standings between themselves. We believe in and have faith in demo- cratic action; we must make every effort to practice what we preach. Again may I compliment and thank the class of '63 for completing and financing the Milfordian. I trust that through the years it will revive many fond and pleasant mem- ories. 7 , C. T. Dickerson Superintendent In congratulating the Class of '63 on the completion of your studies in the Mil- ford High School, I would remind you of the privileges, opportunities, and challenges that face you as you emerge into the broader and ever-enlarging circle of life. Walnut St., Milford Eftichia Salvari, from Greece, A.F.S. daughter of the Leland Achorn family, Lakewood Drive, Milford To be in America has been the very best year of my life. Milford, a nice city with nice people; the school, Milford High School, with incompar- able teachers and the friendliest students, and so many activities, are everlasting memories in my mind. I will leave Milford very soon, but everybody goes and will live in my mind. Good bye and remem- ber me. I joined the international family of the American Field Service, and I have had this lovely oppor- tunity to come to your beautiful country, and to live in Milford for a wonderful year. In my American family, where I have lived the happiest moments of my life, I found the same affection, love, and understanding, as in my Greek home. In Milford High School, in addition to my educa- tion, I made a lot of friends who shared with me every moment of school life. The smiling faces of the helpful teachers, my family, my friends, my American town, and my wonderful year will stay in my mind as a sweet memory . . . The two losses were to Seaford and St. Andrews. Team spirit was the trademark of this J.V. team, remarked the staff. The boys scored 127 points and gave up only 26. The defense proved to be one of the toughest in the conference. This record was compiled by a total team effort. The boys, under the leadership of Coach Briggs, put forth their best in each meet, although the year ended with a losing season. The team took second place in a Triangular Meet with Harrington and Milton. Two dual meets, one with the Maryland State Champs, North Carolina, and the other with Harrington were lost. Next on the schedule were dual meets with Milton, which resulted in a tie, and then a victory. In the State Meet, Jerry Miller placed sixth. At the last of the season, the Harrington Invitational Miller took first place and tied that school's course record. Jerry, a junior, will return next year to break his own record of two minutes and fifty-one seconds, the Milford Course Record. With the sound of the Drum Major's whistle, and a roll of the drums, all eyes turn toward the Milford High School Band! The Band, under the direction of Mr. PaulTeare, entertained with a spectacu- lar array of half-time shows during the football season this year. Our fine march- ing group participated in fire parades, the Memorial Day Parade, and the Hal- loween Parade in Milford, the Chicken Festival in Harrington, the Firemen's Parade in Wilmington, and the Apple Blos- som Festival in Winchester, Virginia. Their presence was also requested for the dedication services of the new post office and city hall, and the opening of the Milford Shopping Center.
