It has been said that great nations Rise and Fall. People go from Bondage to Spiritual Faith—from Spiritual Faith to Courage-from Courage to Liberty —from Liberty to Abundance—from Abundance to Selfishness—from Selfishness to Complacency— from Complacency to Apathy—from Apathy to De- pendency—from Dependency back again into Bondage. In the Milford Schools we must con- tinually improve and search for better procedures for gaining skills, knowledges and attitudes. We must know the meaning of Liberty and continually strive for it. Let us be reminded that with Liberty goes great responsibility and discipline. Our stu- dents must not just be good citizens—they must be ambassadors of good citizenship. All of us must recognize our duties and perform them. We can- not have good government or public institutions if we think of them in the light of What Can I Get, Instead of What Can I Give or How Can I Serve. I wish to compliment the Class of '62 for con- tinuing the Milfordian and sincerely trust that each member in the coming years will treasure with pleasure many of the events recorded for the future. C. T. Dickerson Superintendent While congratulating the Class of '62 of the Milford High School upon reaching this milestone of life's journey, one would be derelict in his duty were he not to remind you of the tremendous responsibility that is yours as citizens of this great land. The basic foundations given you be your school, home, church, and community should chal- lenge you to continue growth in areas of the in- tellectual, physical, social, moral, and spiritual. Then, and only then, can you do your bit in de- voted service to your God, your Country, and your fellowman. Best wishes as you continue the role which you must play as a responsible American citizen. W. W. Hickman Admin. Asst, in charge of Instruction 7

Sioarcf of C cfucaiion MILFORD SPECIAL SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF EDUCATION C. T. Dickerson, Secretary, Joseph O. Penuel, Max R. Corder, President, George A. Robbins, Vice-President, and Joseph Wright. The schools of Delaware are controlled by two bodies, the State Board of Edu- cation, which is appointed by the Governor, and the local boards. Our School Board consists of four members, who have been elected by the people. One new member can be elected every year. This year our new member is Mr. Joseph Wright. Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month, and are open to the public. The duties of the local board are many. It aids the State Board of Education in formulating the entire educational policy of the district. In addition, it is responsible for employing teachers and, with the consent of the people, it collects funds for current needs. Without the board, our school would cease to be the institution it is today. Be- cause of the time and efforts of these dedicated men, we are able to claim a su- perior school system.
