Eagles turn it around The little guys from Milford ignite “Coming out of nowhere, no one expected us to be a team of greatness, said Coach Hingst. Football brought back the school spirit we were searching for. An entire community pulling for the Eagles down after down, Milford did not want to let up on its part of the bargain. If we were close in the fourth quarter, we were ahead, Hingst said. Tabbed the little guys from Milford by the Lincoln Star, the team had finally done what every team wants to do — they went to State. By overcoming a powerful Wilber team, the Eagles were on their way. The Wilber game was the one we wanted the most, for revenge, said Hingst, and later came a stubborn Tri-County team, but we made our own breaks to win. Finally the Eagles qualified for State by beating highly regarded Centennial. Defen- sively, we played very well. It was three downs and out, Hingst said. That defense projected the Eagles up to fourth place in the Associated Press Class C-1 high school ratings before the East Butler game. Milford finished ninth after post-season play — quite an accomplishment for a team that came out of nowhere. Just getting to State was the biggest highlight of our year, Hingst said. 28
