Text from Pages 1 - 80 of the 1971 volume:

The Life The 1971 Eagle Milford, Nebr. The The Life is not easy - not silently stagnant, because stagnation is not The Life. Do not stagnate us - please stir . . . move . . . shift . . . arouse . . . and possess your Life - if it is still possible - or 1 should say - attempt . . . only attempt . . . Because life is catching - you cannot hold it down, even if one is fearful - it will continue to grow. I hope. Life 4 Sponsored by - KROGERS SHOELAND The 82nd annual graduation of Milford High School was held May 18, 1971. A class of 47 seniors received diplomas. The class motto was We've Only Just Begun. The class colors were Royal Blue and Princess Blue with the orchid as the class flower. Graduation - the culmination of the life of a class - the death of it. How can death be ... a goal? - a step? But yet — grad- uation is when a class' time ceases to exist in present tense. But it lives on in past tense for- ever - it does not die. Gradua- tion - a step in life - but a death. A mere changing of perspective on the sea of time. Can one really live graduation without dying in graduation? No! ... Maybe it is with life also . . . 5 In Memoriam Karen Kay Ficke A bee crawls into the heart of the poppy Touching a secret thing, and you are the bee. In a place secret beneath the trees I tremble on a bed of leaves. And marvel that I am me. Listen, in everything there is love's laughter; Why can't the world be still and listen. Who loves the winter and remembers the spring, need have no fear of death, a step in life. Spring is a violence that shakes my frame and threatens, O threatens me with my life. In me a man stirs I did not know. That my and your birth is more than once. Listen, in everything there is love's laughter; Why can't the world be still and listen. - W. Robert Miller 7 The Life - is there? . . . really? What is life and who is it . . . The school - a school - halls - people - movement - noise - how can you put your finger on what actually is The Life? Perhaps we can examine the ab- sence of life. Death? - no. Is not death the fulfillment of life - a step? Judge for yourself what is The Life in the following pages - some may be, some may not be . . . Sponsored by SEWARD IMPLEMENT CO. 9 Editor - Russell Kremer Jeanne Rumler, Todd Dawson, Gayle Radney, Donna Fougeron, Mark Advisor - Mrs. Stockton Ackerman, Russell Kremer, A1 Winseman, Rich Kremer, Jay Roth, This year has been one of revision for the EAGLE staff. Whenever anyone attempts to break with tradition, there are always many obstacles to overcome. Perhaps the most difficult obstacle is changing opinion; therefore, we have had to modernize our own thinking, overcome our own pre- judices as well as others, before we could accomplish our goal. The staff has employed entire new concepts in the layout and design of the EAGLE. Likewise, the EYRIE, the companion jour- nalistic endeavor of the students, also made some changes, creating a better newspaper. The EYRIE staff also received some negative reaction, but perhaps the EAGLE and EYRIE should compliment themselves on a job well done if they have managed to break the complacency and sterility of the past and present. 10 Sponsored by - SCHLEGELS GROCERY Russell Kremer, Susie Stahly, Vosta, Ron Fowler, Sherry Jantze, Dawson, Susie Stahly, Russ Kelly Tate Eyrie Staff Typists - Mary Kapke Pam Hill Annual Staff Mrs. Stockton, Kathy Austen, Janet Ficke, Susan Eicher, Ray Hershberger, Doug Eicher, Carol Stutzman, Bonnie Todd Dawson, Lana Hackbart, Julie Hall, Not pictured.
