Perhaps you may have felt that some of the things you were required to do were unnecessary. But always there was a definite purpose back of these things you were asked to do, that of trying to reach a certain specific goal and then measuring the extent to which you reached the goal. As a result of such pro- cedure, one's own needs could be more clearly visualized, and often the challenge to do better work followed. As you leave school and go out into your various fields of activ- ity, bear in mind the phrase nthe extent to which you reached your goaln. What your goals are will be your own decision. You may hope vaguely that some one will clear a path for you without much exertion on your own part, or you may with grim determination decide to make your life the best possible one. In this world of today, with its great masses of humanity and its complexities of living, it might seem a difficult task for young people just coming out of high school to decide what the best possible life for them would be and what its most worthwhile goals are. It has been said that happiness and success are the eternal goals of men . Analyzing this statement, it is certainly true that in times past men in all walks of life have searched for these eternal goals, and it is highly improbable that the best possible life could be attained with- out them. In this search for happiness and success, many have been rewarded, while many others have failed miserably. If these are to be your goals, what then are your chances of suc- ceeding? First of all, you must make definite plans to reach these goals. Examine yourself before you decide what your life's work shall be. You will find that you possess certain capabilities that many others do not have. After discovering these inner talents, you will have your interest drawn to certain types of work that you willbe better able to do than others. Then after you decide what your life's work is to be, put your plan into action and go after what you want with determination. Do not make your aims low, but set them high. Seek all the knowledge you can get in that which you plan to make your life's work. Having this knowledge will give you that faith in your- self which you need. Knowing that you are able to accomplish certain worthwhile tasks gives you a feeling of security. With this faith in yourself, do your job the best that is in you. As you acquire skill in your chosen line of work, do not neglect to develop positive traits of character and personality. It is still of primary importance to be honest, fair, courageous, and temperate. It is most important also to be able to get along with other people, to work with them, and above all, to help them as they travel along their paths of life. Lastly, have faith in your God. An abiding faith in God will help you to do your part in making your life the best- possible one, and in so doing, may each one of you find the happiness and success you desire. We were all proud to be here and anxious for our studies and the ac- tivities of the coming year to begin. We attended most of the basketball games, dances, and parties. We especially enjoyed the round and square dance which was our only class activity for the year. After a pleasant summer vacation we came back as sopho- .mores with three of our classmates missing. Jack Emery had moved to Hawley where he graduates this year, Edward Gross and Gerald Ryder decided they preferred a paycheck to studies. We were very anxious to graduate with a good-sized treasury so we put forth a great amount of effort on this year's acthh ities. We sold Christmas cards, sponsored a St. patrickaa Day dance, and had a wonderful time on our trip to Bertrand's Island. We owe our success for our first two years to Miss Denver's wise leadership. Most of us earned some spending money during the summer and when another vacation rolled to a close we came back full of ambition because this was the year. Room 20 was our new homeroom and Miss Hankins became our sponsor. Our class rings were a big thrill--something we had looked forward to for many months. We welcomed a new member, Kenneth Ruehl, who became active in sports. During the year Evelyn Emery left to be married, and Patricia Rosencrance, transferred to Hawley where she too will graduate this June. had the basketball concessions, and we sold We had two other activities this year--a chairmaned by Ada Greening and a Junior Prom planning of Anita, Viola, and Eileen. It was in a navy blue ensemble. designed it herself. She now operates an exclusive dress shop on Fifth Avenue. After Dotty had told me all about her new business, we began recalling the days we spent in Milford High. Caroline Schields is now the head manager of Dotty's dress shop and doing a very efficient job with the secretarial work. Caroline always was a good commercial student. I asked Dotty told me she had met waiting for a plane and Viola Kern have if she had seen any of our other classmates lately and she Anita Walker at La Guardia Airport a few days ago. Anita was to Paris, where she intends to open another art school. She already opened several schools which Viola supervises. The last time Dotty had been in Milford, she had stopped at a delicatessen store to make a purchase and was surprised to meet Harriet Hencken who told Dotty that she now owns a chain of such stores from Milford to Scranton. Harriet also told her that she specializes in Quinns' Homogenized Milk which she buys from John and James Quinn, owners of the largest dairy in Eastern Pennsylvania. We always knew they were very ambitious boys. I then told Dotty that Shirley is now secretary to the president of a prom- inent New York law firm. She and I recently attended a theatre on Broadway where we were delighted to see Eileen Haubert, who is the leading actress in the latest hit of the season. After the play, we visited E1leen's dressing room to congrat- ulate her. She had three tickets to the baseball game for the next day and asked us to go with her. Allen Greening, who is now playing with the New York Yankees, had given them to her. Since Allen has been with the Yankees they have won all the World Series games. Eileen told us about Ada Greening who operates the De Luxe Beauty Shoppe in Milford. Her clientele is so large that she now has five operators working for her. Eileen also said that Harold Cron is now president of a large automobile manufacturing company in New York. Just as I left Dorothy, I was surprised to recognize another of my class- mates in Frances MacGregor who was going Frances told me she is still living in D1ngman's and often sees Joan Ryder who is happily married and lives in Bushkill. Barbara Stephens must believe in fresh the bustling crowd about to board the train. It was none other than on a trip to Canada with her husband and her son. air for her children because Frances said whenever she passes through Matamoras, she sees Barbara and her four children out walking. Charles Capone is a most outstanding public accountant and Frances told me that Marjorie Hess is his private sec- retary. Charles also operates a riding academy of which Thomas Coleman is the efficient manager. We had now reached the station where I changed trains. As I sat by myself thinking over the news I had heard about my classmates, I realized we certainly had a genuinely successful class. And I know we owe everything to our never-to- be-forgotten teachers in Milford High School and also to our greatest friend and instructor, Principal Markley. 16 V f ' . ,' ,f f , ' 2 - wg w H Q Qi -76'Q 0, 'IOQK 190 Qp0O0150 Q Q'f'1':Q'WQ0'o'0 ' X Q09 Q, U' ' WYFRQ. The beauty and comple ity o he rose means the way we, as a fairly large' class, have co-o ated these years with the least amount of difficulty. A as the petals of the rose fall at the end of summer, so wil a each embark on our own course of life. 20 ml aaa Qnmrac crisp ics Shirley Belknap, the quietest girl in the senior class, can often be seen busily engaged in studying her shorthand with her inseparable friend, Peggy Wirth, the most even-tempered girl in the senior class. Where you find one you will always find the other--even drinking cokes in the diner. Charles Capone seems to enjoy his arguments with the teachers,' espe- cially when they have some class work planned. He ought to be able to get along with the girls quite well by now, after oeing the only boy among ten girls in shorthand class for two years. The tallest boy in our class is Thomas Coleman. Besides his height we have also noticed that he is quiet, never loses his temper, and readily agrees with any class decision. Harold Cron is the popular young fellow whom we chose as class pres- ident. He has been an active member of the basketball team. We shall all remember Ada Greening for her mathematics ability. Does your short walk to school aid you in solving some of those problems, Ada? One of the most athletic boys in our class is Allen Greening, having been a shining star on the baseball team. He is the one you always see putting coca cola in the coke machine at dismissal time. Eileen Haubert is the studious girl who has a friendly smile for everyone. She has also been a very capable school pianist. Known for her shorthand ability is Harriet Hencken. She is also an ardent movie fan, and if you ever want to find her just look for her at the Riviera Theatre in Barryville. From Shohola comes Marjorie Hess. We will always remember her for the work she did to get our cards and announcements correct. Keep up the good work, Margie. Viola Kern is always willing to lend a helping hand to a fellow stu- dent. We wish her luck in her future career as an art teacher. Frances MacGregor is our square dance fiend from Dingman's. May she dance through life with never a dull moment. Our male Shoholaite, Hugh McKean, does not miss out on any of the three joys of life: hunting, fishing, and teasing the girls. Does anyone want to know how to bowl? Ask Hugh. James Quinn is one of the tallest lads in our class. I bet this height comes in handy around the farm, doesn't it, Jim? The Al Jolson of our class is John Quinn. Keep up the good singing, John. Maybe some day we will hear you on t e radio. Dorothy Rocksandich is our shy young miss from Shohola who is known for her love of drawing during study hall. She can always be depended upon for her refreshments during assembly. From Dingman's comes Joan Ryder who is noted for her great dislike of English and her love for the boys. Caroline Schields is the strawberry blonde who may always be seen rushing to fill her pen just before the last buzzer sounds. A gay laugh and cheery smile. Put them together and you have Barbara Stephens. Keep smiling, Barbara, and the world will smile with you. The only cheerleader from the senior class is Anita Walger. Besides cheerleading she can always be seen hustling around with her many tasks as G.0. President and homeroom chairman. 21. ll' nr 0 4 4 vb B V0 B rf Name Nickname Speciality Favorite Pastime Shirley Belknap G Shir-1 l cakes Eating ' Charles Capone nCharlieH Getting minuses Loafing Thomas Coleman uTommyn Ice cream Hunting Harold Cron nJuniorn Pool Cruising Ada Greening nSisn Bowling Knitting and Reading Allen Greening nAln Bowling Hunting and Fishing Baseball and Football Eileen Haubert nHot-rodn Plano playing Dancing Harriet Hencken nButchW Roller skating Reading Marjorie Hess nMargyn Chocolate Swimming and Hunting Viola Kern nVin Drawing Discussions??
